Introduction
Your TUFF GUT/GULF GULP food disposal unit has been designed to allow the offshore oilindustry to comply with the International Marpol Law 73/73 Annex 5 concerning food waste dischargedinto the water.
Installation of your TUFF GUT/GULF GULP is simple and easy, just follow the instructions. If you have any questions, call our technical department at 225-274-1083.
1. Read all the information before beginning your installation procedure.
2. Place your unit in the location selected by your company personnel.
3. Your unit requires a 1 inch potable water supply. Simply pipe into the 1/2 pipe connection on the
side of the unit. The disposer unit uses very little water, and potable water will give your unitmuch longer service.
4. Your unit has been designed to discharge the ground-up food waste directly overboard thru a 4
inch drain line.
5. Connect your incoming power as instructed on the following pages.
Both Gulf Gulp and Tuff Gut units nowuse our TUFF GUT external drive grinder.

Plumbing Instructions
1. Connect the discharge outlet of the TUFF GUT to a 4 inch or larger overboarddrain line and install a clean out (T) at rear of unit.
2. If connecting to an existing drain line, it must be completely cleaned outbefore installation.
3. Make sure you have approximately 100 psi potable water pressure at thewater inlet connection.
4. Connect a potable water line to the 1/2 inch NPT pipe fitting on the side of theunit.
5. It not recommended that you put a shut off valve near the unit’s water inlet. This could be left off when the unit is operating and water will not flow into unit causing problems.
6. Unit has an internal water solenoid valve that will open when the start buttonis pushed.
7. Never grind food in the unit without water flowing thru it. This will causethe grind chamber and/or the drain line to plug up.
8. CLEAN OUT your drain line regularly, food waste can cause the drain line toplug quickly. Disconnect your rear outlet to flush drain line. Do not flushdrain line thru grinder unit.

Electrical Installation
The motor control box has been prewired to the disposer’s motor and solenoid valve and tested atthe factory. All that is necessary is to connect your incoming power to the terminal strip inside the controlbox.
Units are shipped prewired for either 230 VAC or 460 VAC 3 Phase.Be sure to check the unit and connect to appropriate voltage.
Units must be permanently grounded using a grounding conductor run with the circuit conductors andconnected to unit.
1. Open the motor control box and check for supply voltage requirements.
2. Feed incoming wires through a watertight fitting you install in the bottom of the control box.
3. Connect your 3 incoming power leads on the terminal strip at the bottom left ofthe control box.
4. Connect incoming grounding wire to the ground screw inside the control box.Unit must be permanently grounded.
5. The drive motor is protected with a resetable motor overload located in the control box. Toreset wait 5 minutes, then sharply push the reset button on the overload.
6. Before closing control box recheck all connections.
7. Make sure control box does not leak.
All electrical connections must be made by experienced electricians inaccordance to all applicable electrical codes.
Improper installation resulting in damage to the unit or accessories arenot covered by the warranty .

Test Procedure
1. Make sure all electrical and plumbing connections are tight and properlyinstalled.
2. Inspect all components and connections for possible shipment damage.
3. Check to be sure disposer’s cutting teeth are free of all foreign objects and willturn freely.
4. Close and seal unit’s motor control box door before turning on power to unit.
5. Turn on systems electrical power and water supply.
6. Push start button and determine that the cutting elements turn and the water
flows automatically into unit.
7. Check all mounting and water connections both outside and inside for leaks
and tighten if necessary.
8. Start and stop unit to check if auto reversing controls are properly operating.
9. If disposer fails to operate properly:a) Check wiring connectionsb) Determine if Reset overload has tripped—reset if necessary.
Water will start to flow immediately after pushing start button. A 110 volt water solenoid valve is locatedinside unit. This electrical solenoid valve controls water flow to grinding chamber.
Never grind food in the unit without water flowing thru it.This will cause the unit to plug-up.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Instruct all personnel in the correct operating procedure.
1. Always push start button before feeding food into unit.
2. Check for water flow thru unit, water must be flowing thru unit or it willstop-up.
3. Pour food waste into unit slowly, don’t overload unit.
4. Allow unit to run for 3 minutes after all food has been ground-up to flush unit.
5. Push stop button when grinding is complete.
WARNING
1. Never put your hands into unit.
2. Never put metal, glass or plastic bags into unit.
3. Never put cooking grease or hot food into unit.
4. If unit jams, it may be to overloading or a foreign object.Stop unit and remove foreign object.
5. If the unit’s overload has tripped, wait 5 minutes before resetting.
6. Never operate unit with safety guards removed.

MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
Check with every use
1. Water must be flowing thru unit when in operation. Make sure water solenoidis operating properly and water flow is sufficient to flush food thru unit.
2. Check for drain line blockage. Do not run unit if your drain line is blocked. Disconnect unit from drain line and clear blockage.
Do not try to unstop drainline thru the unit. Do not use high pressure water to flush the grind chamber, thiswill ruin the shaft seals/bearings.
3. If any unusual noises, such as worn bearings, loose belt or motor noise occurs, shut unit down and inspect immediately.
Check Monthly
1. Inspection condition of grinding elements and shredder ring. If worn or broken, replace them.
REPLACE ALL GRIND COMPONENTS YEARLY.(Order Cutting Kit, Part Number... CUT 10)
2. If unit is grinding slowly or drain line stops up regularly, grinding elements could be worn and needto be replaced.
3. Inspect control box to make sure water is not leaking inside.
4. Inspect cogged belt for wear and tension. Do not over tighten cogged belt.
5. Grease the bottom mounted grinder drive shaft bearing with high qualitybearing grease via the zert on the bearing.
6. If water is leaking from the bottom of your grinder unit:a.) Check your drain line for blockage, it is probably plugged.b.) Repack/replace top shaft bearing assembly.c.) Check bottom mounted bearing for water contamination, replace if needed.
