individual aspirations or ambitions. We

established instruments, then, i t will be difficul t for
a
leading
American composer to
state
that
he
would
consider
composing a
concerto
for
"almost every
instrument
except
the
tuba."

refer
to
the
tuba as the "belcher of the
band,"
as a "non-paper trained elephant, l ion or hippo," or as
a
"musical curiosity."

for publishers not

died in August, 1971,
a tremendous
void
was
created in

tuba
world. The
collective, crea
t ive
efforts
of the tuba fraternity must operate with maximum efficiency in

to
help

this void.
One of
our most
respected
members
recently stated that there "as
less
jealo
among tubists than
any
other group of instrumentalists
and that
he
"never met a
tuba player
he-didn't
l ike." This kind of spi r i t exemplifies the camaraderie necessary for the success
of
a
tuba
fraternity.

is now in
the
final stage of
infancy.

CHICAGO REPORT 1972
On December 14,
1972,
an organizational meeting took
place
at the Mid-West
National Band and Orchestra Clinic and some
fif ty
people were
in
attendance
at the meeting. Resolutions adopted

this meeting

significant and

I believe, in accord with the consti tution and bylaws which

being

the parent organization

T.U.B.A. They
sui t our immediate purposes here at Indiana

each
chapter

course,
want

formulate

set
of
