CONFESSIONS Saturdays 8:30 am to 10:00 am
Or By Appointment
T he disciples were going. They were “on the way.” The path of life was unfolding before them. They were conversing, debating, sharing, and recounting the events of their experience, and what they had seen. They discussed what they knew of
the life and sacrifice of Jesus. Yet, unbeknownst to them, the Risen Christ was walking with them. At some point, he even joined in their conversation. He opened their minds. They began to reflect and to ponder. Coming to recognize the Lord Himself at their side, at table, their hearts burned within them, and they became grounded in faith and hope. It’s the story of Emmaus. It’s actually our story too.
In the wake of the Resurrection, we are all “on the way,” the road of life, the journey of faith. The events of our lives and our conversations with family, friends, fellow parishioners, and neighbors provide us great opportunities to reflect and ponder, as we interpret the events of our daily experience through the prism of our treasured Catholic faith. It is so very important to keep our eyes open for opportunities to witness to Christ, to live for him, to recount the reasons and rationale for our confession of faith. It is so very important, too, to be confidently aware that as we act in Christ’s name and spread his message of hope and life, he is accompanying us, walking with us on the journey. As such, we might ask, are our conversations holy, giving witness to our belief in the Risen Lord? Are our hearts burning within us, promoting us to act in his name, guiding our lives heavenward?
An essential part of witnessing to the faith is to be engaged in the work of evangelization. In ways small and great, the Lord relies on us to live for him, to act in his name, to publicly share our Christian convictions, to apply our faith to the whole fabric of our earthly lives. It’s a process of making the land of our lives holy, as well as being instruments of making holy our surroundings. As the Gospel is lived and becomes concrete in our choices, day in and day out, the Kingdom of God becomes palpable. We are given a glimpse of what lived discipleship includes, and how God’s holy will takes shape in us.
In the past six years here at the Church of the Little Flower, we have worked together to develop our parish ministries and services in the name of the Gospel. What was once 17 organizations has now ballooned into 54 active ministries and services. Most of them came about as a result of the Holy Spirit inspiring so many of you to step up and take action in response to your treasured faith. It’s amazing what the Lord has done among us!
The specific program of evangelization here at our parish is surely a multi-faceted one. It takes concrete expression, however, in some major initiatives that play out each week. Of course, our school and religious education programs rank highly among them. Yet, we have, as well, our adult continuing education experiences, lecture series, retreats, print and cyber media on behalf of the parish and its many activities, our Catholic Disciples in the Public Square, our Saint Paul Street Evangelization ministry, our public devotional life as a parish (at the grotto of Saint Therese, outdoor Nativity scene, outdoor candlelight rosaries, outdoor processions, church tours), our marketing and public relations initiatives (in area hotels, gas stations, community and commerce centers, as well as restaurants, and even our bumper stickers and billboards). Now we want to make hospitality and welcome a high priority, maybe even neighborhood door to door ministry. The work of evangelization is never done. The Lord beckons us onward.
May we all strive to saturate our lives with the saving Gospel of the Risen Christ, to live and act for him in what we do, and to realize that he accompanies us along the way.
Comenzaron a reflexionar y contemplar.

Padre Abel Barajas, recientemente
Comber Hall. Todos están bienvenidos.
You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.

has recently asked Archbishop Wenski for permission
to go on loan for a period of time to the Diocese of

to his dear family. He will use the month of June
for transition, moving, and vacation. His new post
in Escondido, California begins on July 1st. With
appreciation for his three years of service at our parish,
his farewell Mass here at Little Flower is scheduled for
12:30pm on Sunday, May 28th, which will be followed
by a reception in Comber Hall. All are welcome.
