PVSD Bullying Definition

AB 1156, as of July 1, 2012, encourages the

inclusion of policies and procedures aimed at

the prevention of bullying in comprehensive

school safety plans. The bill also requires the

Department of Justice and the State Department

of Education to contract to provide training in

the prevention of bullying, as defined in the bill.

The Pleasant Valley School District has

instituted the Safe and Civil Schools: CHAMPS

approach on each campus. The strategies

addressed in CHAMPS focus on our continued

effort to Response to Intervention (RtI),

clarifying expectations, and providing

meaningful professional development for

faculty.

The PVSD Bullying program includes

procedures for reporting and investigating

alleged acts of bullying. This includes a rubric

to determine if it was an act of bullying.

A survey was administered to all 1st thru 8th grade students Spring, 2012. The complete results and individual school site results will be presented at a School Site Council meeting.

Survey Results

85% of 1st thru 3rd grade students feel safe at school.

42% of 1st thru 3rd grade students have been called a name at school.

81% of 4th thru 8th grade students feel safe in their classrooms.

43% of 4th thru 8th grade students have not been bullied at school.

32% of 4th thru 8th grade students do not know if they have been bullied at school.

The PVSD Bullying committee recognized that many wonderful activities were already in place at the school sites. Thus a database of all the activities has been created and shared with the principals of each site. It is also available on the Bullying web page.
