The Trumpet Values We are servants in God's special ‘unit’ and we have an important mission to fulfill: to proclaim the power of God unto salvation to the Jews first and also to the Arabs (Romans 1:16). This unique task gives a special ‘stamp’ to our work, probably unlike anything in your previous experience. In order to serve with Trumpet of Salvation we are prepared to give the Almighty God of Israel the first place in our life. We look for guidance in God’s Word and endeavor to live accordingly and without compromise. We want to entrust our whole life into His hand and live for Him and for the advancing of His Kingdom.

Here we describe the most important characteristics we desire to see God forming in each one of His disciples, as we come to serve Him together. Please remember that in everything we write in this policy, we first of all talk to our own hearts.

Commitment and Devotion “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:19-20 “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.” Luke 9:23-24 “We know love by this that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” 1 John 3:16

Agape - Love “If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; an d if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.” 1 Corinthians 13

The only thing we owe one another is love. We are called to serve one another with joy. We are to repent immediately if there is the slightest aversion to or disregard of another person. It is essential to forgive others immediately in the way our Lord taught us. If we remember how much the Lord forgave and still has to forgive us, He will give us the power to overcome and to forgive anyone who has sinned against us.

“Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” Matthew 18:21-22

We want to help one another to become more like our Lord and to be able to serve Him in a better and more effective way. We want to challenge one another to have a more compassionate heart and deeper devotion to the Lord. We want to grow and develop our Lord's attitude! If we consider how much our neighbour is loved by God, He will teach us how to be patient and loving as our Master is.

“Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:1-11

Authority Our authority is the Chief of all - the General of the Army, God the Almighty and His Son, Yeshua haMashiach (Jesus Christ). “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth….” Matthew 28:18-20

As God’s given local authority, we expect you to also submit yourself under the leadership and the rules of this ministry. “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.” Hebrews 13:17

As the Holy Spirit lives in us, we can walk in the light, following our Lord as we allow Him to reign over our lives. In this way, we will reflect the love of God, in submission to Him, to the leadership and to one another.

Unity The unity which our Lord prayed for in John 17:23 must be seen: “I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.”

Our testimony as servants of God is visible in the unity manifested in:

The way we live together - “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

The way we serve together - “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13

And the way we proclaim the Gospel of Salvation in deeds and words – “But Peter said, ‘I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene - walk!’” Acts 3:6 “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

Guidelines for Life at Trumpet Below are some of the basic foundations of living in community at Trumpet of Salvation.

Community Life We are called to true unity, to oneness of heart and to make disciples by proclaiming the Gospel of God’s Kingdom in our daily life. We are called to a holy life in the community where our attitude with one another, our work and activities have the highest importance. Trumpet expects each volunteer to live a life in full devotion to the Lord with joyful submission to the Trumpet leadership.

We expect every person to be determined to do all things to the glory of God and to add a creative mind and spirit to Trumpet's community life. We are to encourage one another to be the person God called us to be, to walk in the Spirit, to be sensitive and alert to our surroundings, to be light and salt and to do whatever it takes to add color to Trumpet’s family life.

Humility of heart, love, servanthood, considering others more important than ourselves, encouraging and challenging one another to become Christ-like, creative and reaching out to others should be the desire of our hearts and our ultimate goal. Trumpet will not tolerate laziness, selfishness and self-pity parties. When joining Trumpet, we are joining an ‘army’. Much freedom is given therefore much is expected!

The Trumpet house in Jaffa and Hotel Gilgal are the Lord’s houses. As we live and work together, it is everyone’s responsibility to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the house. We want everyone, believers and unbelievers, to feel welcome, and to enable this ministry to reach its full potential.

Problems in the Team If any problems arise within the community, first pray for that person or situation and then go to him or her in a spirit of love. If the situation is not resolved we invite you to bring the situation to the leader of the Jaffa House team, we are willing to help you. Gossiping and complaining are never the right solutions; instead problems can be turned into victory when handled correctly. “If your brother sins against you go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over”. Matthew 18:15

Volunteer Service We devote our energy to practical service as well as studying the Bible and evangelism. We are involved in different ministry work at the Jaffa House, Hotel Gilgal and in the community - serving the needy, cleaning, painting, office-related tasks... The tasks will be decided according to the needs, your gifts and abilities. As an active community, we need to be flexible, and may be required to serve irregular hours.

We would like to see you develop your gifting and callings, please use your creativity. Our desire is that you would be used by God and reach your highest potential as a unique individual, created for the good works He has prepared for you. We encourage you to be proactive and use your initiative in seeking ways to help. Creative ideas about ways to advance the Gospel and make disciples are most welcome.

Worship, Study and Prayer Time As a community we seek the presence of God in times of prayer and worship. Everyone must participate not only in worship and prayer but also in the teaching of the Word. We strongly believe that by attending all of these activities your spiritual walk will progress.

You are encouraged to invest time daily in studying the Word, praying and worshiping in your personal quiet time. It is very important for each disciple to take time for regular fellowship with God.

Trumpet of Salvation has a regular congregation meeting called Sacred Assembly, which meets in Hotel Gilgal every Tuesday and Friday at 19:00. We ask all team members to attend. There are also teachings and outreach in the mornings. On Shabbat you may also visit other Messianic congregations.

We all come from different spiritual backgrounds. According to our understanding of the Bible, we do not permit speaking or praying aloud in tongues without interpretation during worship or prayer meetings. We do not limit the freedom of the Spirit, instead, we want to encourage you to learn to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit in order to edify, exhort and comfort the body of Messiah according to the Biblical model and order.

Team Events Team events announced in advance. Request from the Trumpet Team leader if you plan on not participating in a team event. Being tired or being a bit discouraged are not good reasons to miss team events. Please be aware that the schedule is subject to change - even last minute changes. Please be flexible!

Private Events You may take some time off our schedule. You can use this time for personal recreation or visiting friends. If you are planning a trip please talk to us in advance so we can plan for your absence. Please note that since we will keep your place at Jaffa House we will not be able to give you refunds for the day(s) you are away.

Individuals or groups sometimes arrange to “go out” in the evening during their free time. This is ok if you discuss with the Trumpet Team leader where you are going and the time you expect to return. 23:00 is usually the latest time that a person is expected to return to Jaffa House.

Dress code In the Trumpet community we all want to be a testimony in the way we talk, behave and dress. Trumpet is based in Tel Aviv-Jaffa which is an ungodly society (the Trumpet base is in Jaffa, where a big part of the population is of Arab descent, Hotel Gilgal is in the center of Tel Aviv), but we believe that we are called and required by God to be holy for He is holy, therefore we are to dress as a people who are set apart for the glory of God. There will be no room for worldly dressing (or living) at Trumpet. The way we dress plays an important role, it is a reflection of your personal testimony. We want to show dignity and respect, and give no reason for anyone to stumble, therefore we ask both men and women to always dress modestly.

If you are a woman, we ask you to bring trousers that cover your knees, shirts that cover your shoulders and midriff and a one-piece swim suit (not a bikini). Short pants should only be worn during times at the beach or during sports. A good rule is: not too short, not too tight and not too low. You will also need something with long sleeves when we evangelize among the religious Jews and Arabs.

If you are a man, we ask you to bring shirts that cover your shoulders. Long trousers are preferable, but if you bring shorts to wear in your “free time” (you will soon see there is not such a thing as free time as such since you always meet people) make sure they are not too tight and reach at least your knees. Bring a swim suit in the style of shorts rather than briefs.

Any other provocative dressings such as transparent clothes are not allowed in the Trumpet base. When going to and from the showers you must be fully dressed – a towel over the waist is not adequate.

Romantic Relationships Serious relationships are permitted with accountability to the Lord. The leadership, however, must be aware of a relationship before you consider starting one. The relationship must not affect the atmosphere in the group and it must not interfere with the ministry work. A relationship between a believer and a non-believer is unacceptable at Trumpet. You must check with the leadership before you meet someone of the opposite sex. We are watching out for your safety and also protecting your integrity, the reputation of other believers and the Ministry. It is best to go out to a coffee house, attend a play, museum etc. together with other members of the Trumpet Team. More than one person is always the best.

The Trumpet community has an “open door” policy. If a man and a woman are in a room together the door must be open (unless they are married). Trumpet members must show the greatest respect toward their room-mates at all times, and so we ask you never to bring visitors of the opposite sex to your private room. There should be no improper relationships and no public display of affection between unmarried couples.

Trumpet members are to maintain the highest integrity at all times. Our testimony as believers has a powerful impact on others although we might not always realize this. At Trumpet we represent much more than only our own personal lives. People around us will watch our behavior and judge us by what they see. We do not want to give them any reason to think badly about our faith, Trumpet and our holy God.

Drugs, Alcohol and Smoking Alcohol, smoking and drugs are not tolerated at the Jaffa House at all.

Teaching

Bible Studies Equipping you with vital and sound Bible teaching is very important to us. During your time with us we will teach you from the Tanach (Old Testament) and the Brit HaChadasha (New Testament). Subjects include God’s covenants with the Children of Israel, the prophetic promises concerning Israel’s Messiah, Yeshua in Israel’s Feasts, the Jewish inheritance in Yeshua and much more.

In teaching about modern Israel we will learn about the political and social situation, national security and other topics that form the character of this nation today. Why has Israel turned its back on its Messiah and on the Church? Why do Israelis often reject Christians? Has the Church been successful in provoking Israel to a healthy jealousy (Deuteronomy 32:21)? Despite the Church’s long history of persecution of the Jewish people, what can we do about God’s plan for Israel’s salvation today?

Together we will learn how to bring the Gospel to the Jewish people in its Jewish context. Our Bible studies will help us understand what it means to follow Yeshua in our daily life and how to live according to the Gospel. ‘Who we are in Christ’ and 'Evangelism as a Lifestyle' will be our themes.

Preparation Read and study Jacob’s book “Lama Davka ani?” (English: “Why Me?”) with a focus on chapters 7 through 12. We have translations in English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. Reading this material is essential to help you prepare to share about your faith in Israel. You may join Trumpet only if you have read the book. If you do not have a copy please contact us and we will gladly send one to you. We ask you also to watch the Trumpet of Salvation DVDs, “Little Miracles” and “The Other Side of the Cross”. Please also read and study Romans 9, 10 and 11.

Optional reading: We would like to encourage you to take a look at the excellent teaching of Living Waters. This is optional, but it will prepare you to share your faith in Israel or elsewhere. If you have access to the Internet, go to www.livingwaters.com and click on “Free Evangelism Resources.”. Please read and study.

Assignments Assignments are intended to equip you to successfully participate in outreach so it is necessary that you complete them. We expect every team member to be the best “soldier” he can be and this comes through proper preparation.

We recommend that you bring a laptop to assist you in communicating with home and for completing assignments. Wi-Fi is available. There are also a limited number of computer workstations available at Hotel Gilgal and the Jaffa House. Below are assignments given to every volunteer.

1. Write your personal testimony of how you came to know and love God and have received your salvation as you would tell it to a Jewish person. 2. Write how you would share the Gospel with a Jewish person - either on the streets or sitting at a table. 3. Keep a listing of those people that should be followed up on. We will pray for them and meet with them. 4. Write your testimonies of your outreach times or other memorable times with Trumpet and send them to Elisheva [email protected]. Choose the events or impressions that were especially interesting and elaborate on these.

Diary Keeping a diary is a powerful spiritual discipline to help your walk with God. Writing your experiences gives glory to God and directs you in your walk with Him. Please add some meaningful excerpts from your diary to your testimony so we can use them in the newsletters. This will greatly encourage and inspire many other people in their walk with God.

Photographs Please share your photos of team events, trips and outreaches with Trumpet! We can use them to encourage others to participate and also to give glory to the beautiful work God is doing among us. Please coordinate with the Trumpet Team leader to download your photos to the hard drive at the Jaffa House, or better yet, send them to [email protected]. Daily Community Life

House Hours 22:00 - Quiet time! Lights out in bed rooms - please work out any exceptions with your roommates. Arrange with the Trumpet Team leader if you wish to go out in the evening and the time you expect to return. We ask you to go out with other members of the Team! Your return should not be later than 23:00.

Security The area around the Jaffa house is a multi-cultural zone. In this area there are Jews, Muslim Arabs, Christian Arabs, Arab believers, and tourists. The area is relatively quiet and safe –still it is best to always be in pairs.

When you are alone in the house, do not let anyone enter the Jaffa House unless you know them. It is best to take a message or give them the telephone number of a leader, who can then follow up with the visitor. Many people come to the door sincerely interested to find more about God or who were past volunteers - but safety comes first!

We provide you with a key to the house for your convenience for a deposit of 100 NIS. Please take care of it. The last person leaving the house is responsible to lock up. The kitchen back door that leads to the garden is most of the time open. If you leave the house last make sure you close it properly. Door screens to the outside should also be shut during the day to prevent cats and neighbourhood children from entering.

Travel - Jaffa House and Hotel Gilgal Travel to and from the Hotel Gilgal along the sea boardwalk is exceptionally rewarding and takes between 15 minutes by bicycle or 40 minutes by walking. Public buses are also available.

Meals Meals are available daily at either Jaffa House or Hotel Gilgal. You will need to buy your own coffee, ice creams, snacks etc. while on outings.

Bathrooms / Showers Please limit your time in the bathroom / showers to 15 minutes (including cleaning up). When finished, mop or dry the floor, clean the sinks and trash. Take away all of your personal items including clothes, towel, shampoo etc. Leave the door and window open to allow ventilation. Hang floor towel on tub. Turn off lights.

Conservation There is a serious water shortage in Israel - save water as much as possible! While soaping in the shower or brushing your teeth, you can save water by closing the water-tap… Always turn off lights, fans and air-condition etc. when not in rooms (obviously!).

Cleaning Jaffa House Wash all of your dishes immediately after use. Use warm water, soap and sponge. Volunteer to place dry dishes back in the cupboard. Leave no spilt sugar, milk, coffee, bread crumbs etc. after preparing your meals. When trash is full carry it to the container at the street. The team shares in the duties for keeping the house clean. However when you see dishes that need to be done, a floor that needs to be swept, trash that needs to be taken out, a bathroom that needs to be cleaned, a table or counter that needs to be wiped off, loose cups

lying around that need to be collected and cleaned… please take the initiative and take care of it for the benefit of the entire team and to God’s glory!

Food Store private food in a bag or box with your name; everything else is considered public.

Laundry Laundry powder is supplied. As we want to save resources, please wash full loads only. If you do not have enough laundry for that, partner with another person to make a full load or fill up with house-laundry. Half a cup detergent is plenty. It is suggested to reuse the bath towel several times in order to save resources.

Please pick up your dry clothing from the line promptly. If you don't have any line space to hang your laundry, remove enough dry laundry from the line and leave it in the basket provided. Do not bring anyone’s laundry downstairs!

Gifts and Food Items at Hotel Gilgal Hotel Gilgal has ice cream, drinks and gifts for sale in the reception. Trumpet team members receive a 15% discount.

Bicycles Bicycles need to be locked with a chain type lock when taking them around the city. If stolen and not locked you will be responsible to replace the bicycle. Notify a leader if a bicycle is not working properly.

Cats at the Jaffa House Do not feed or touch the cats. They have many sicknesses and are multiplying out of control.

Application and Cost

Conditions for Acceptance In order to join Trumpet, you need to be 18 years of age or over. All teaching is in English and there will be no translation, so it is recommended that you have a good knowledge of spoken English.

Everyone who would like to participate must apply several weeks in advance of their time of arrival.

Travel health insurance will be required upon acceptance. This is mandatory for serving with Trumpet since medical treatment is very expensive in Israel.

After reading your application, we will prayerfully consider if you will fit into the Trumpet Team. You must be prepared to abide by the standards of behavior which we seek to live by and to accept the rules of the community. Anyone who is not able or willing to follow rules or shows inappropriate behavior (that he is not willing to correct), will have to leave the Jaffa House.

Participation We receive new team members for a period of two weeks to three months. Please keep in mind that it takes some time to get acclimatized to living and ministering in Israel and being part of the team so we recommend you plan your stay for as long as possible.

It is possible to stay at the Hotel Gilgal without an application instead of formally joining the Trumpet Team, but your participation in Team events will be limited then. Hotel Gilgal guests may attend the daytime courses, Bible studies, and prayer meetings and the congregation meetings but will not be invited to outreaches, traveling events, or other activities.

You will need to reserve a room to stay at Hotel Gilgal: [email protected].

He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:24-26
