govern their affairs for the following year.
▫ Student leaders create fun and spirit filled activities and events
throughout the school year. ASB officers include, President,
Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and School Site Council.
▫ The Activities Director oversees ASB Leadership students,
student clubs and organizations and the Student Council.

Getting Involved
The student body’s government is elected by the students for the
students. Concerns of how student affairs are being handled should be
directed to any of the elected student representatives.
Students who wish to participate in class competitions, rallies, decorate
for dances, or participate in anything ASB related should attend
Wednesday's class meetings, talk to class officers, or stop by the ASB
office. ASB’s goal is to make your experience at Alisal High School
better!
ASB STICKERS
ASB stickers are available at the student store for a one-time fee of
$45.00 and are affixed to ID Cards. The purchase is optional, and
replacement stickers are $5.
▫ Recommended for students participating in athletics and/or
serving on student government.
▫ Can be used to receive free or discounted prices on events,
games, and discounts at the student store.
▫ Athletes will receive sport specific patches and one varsity
block letter for free.
ATHLETICS
Cross Country / Golf / Volleyball / Tennis / Cheer

Softball / Swimming Track & Field
Our athletes follow our district policy of pursuing victory with honor! We
follow the six pillars of good character:
- Trustworthiness - Respect -Responsibility
- Caring - Fairness -Citizenship
Alisal High School is part of the Monterey Bay League (MBL). Sports
may be placed in one of two divisions: Gabilan or Pacific.
ELIGIBILITY
To participate in a sport, students must:
▫ Be academically eligible, maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA.
▫ Receive no more than one unsatisfactory citizenship or one
failing grade during a single grading period (quarter).
▫ Complete an Eligibility Clearance Form and be free of all
school debt (i.e. textbooks, library books, sports fees).
▫ Complete an Athletics Packet containing information, including
required insurance, for legal guardians to sign.
▫ Get a physical with one’s own doctor or at Alisal’s Physical
Day for $20.00.
▫ Attend Drug Contract Night, and sign a drug contract along
with a legal guardian and Athletic Director. All student athletes
must abide by the contract.
ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION & ATTENDANCE
The goal of the Salinas Union High School District is for all student
athletes to attend school on a regular basis. Athletic participation is a
privilege, and school attendance is of extreme importance.
▫ Student athletes must attend all classes daily.
▫ If a game occurs on a school day, student athletes must attend
all classes during that day to be eligible to participate.
▫ In the event that a student athlete must be absent for a full or
partial day on the day of a game, the student athlete must secure
prior approval from the Principal and/or designee of the school
for an excused absence.
▫ Student athletes may attend school-sponsored events/field trips
on the day of a game to remain eligible to compete.
▫ For games on Saturdays or non-school days, the previous
school day’s attendance will be the determining factor.
The Attendance Office verifies attendance via eschools of student
athletes in the afternoon prior to any game.
Trojans are Responsible, Respectful & Safe 5
ATTENDANCE
Board Policy requires that students maintain at least an 85% attendance
rate for the days enrolled in order to graduate and receive a diploma.
All schools are CLOSED CAMPUSES during the entire school day. In
order to leave school, students must receive a “Permit to Leave”
available at any time during the school day from the Attendance office,
or the absence will be marked invalid or truant.
If you know you are going to be absent, your parent should call the
Attendance Office. If your parents forget to call, a note needs to be
turned in to the Attendance Office the next day.
If you are going to be leaving campus for any reason during the day, a
note from your parent must be turned into the Attendance Office first
thing in the morning and a permit will be issued. Phone calls are not
accepted to release students.
If you have excessive absences, we are required to notify the Monterey
County District Attorney’s Office.
BALLOONS, FLOWERS, & GIFTS
Items brought to the school for individual celebrations will not be
allowed in class. These items are disruptive and will be kept in the
office until the end of the school day. It is our recommendation that
they not be brought to school.
CAFETERIA
The cafeteria provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Breakfast is
free to all students and is served between 7:30-8:00 am. Lunch is served
from 12:08-12:48 pm. Students are not allowed to purchase food other
than at these times. Dinner is served from 2:55 -5:30 pm. All students
can take advantage of the free or reduced meal program. A form must be
completed to qualify.
▫ Form lunch lines in single file; do NOT cut into lines or
purchase food items for other students.
▫ Bring ID card daily.
▫ Put trash in garbage containers.
CANINE UNIT
To provide a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning,
Alisal High School uses the Canine Intervention Program for the
detection of illegal drugs, ammunition, weapons and alcohol. Random
searches throughout the school take place throughout the year.
CELL PHONES, IPODS, & other ELECTRONICS
Use of cell phones and electronic devices are not allowed during class
time. Board policy prohibits electronic devices on campus. Alisal High
administrators may confiscate such items, and students will be required to attend Saturday School to reclaim their item(s). The school is NOT
responsible for lost or stolen items.
CAREER CENTER
The Career Center is open M-F during school hours and offers a wide
variety of career awareness activities, workshops, and presentations to
assist students in planning for their futures. Students can sign up for ROP
classes that match their career interests, get help in researching colleges
and trade schools, find information on scholarships and community
service opportunities.
In addition to career guidance activities, the Career Center staff
coordinates ROP/vocational studies. Mission Trails ROP offers twenty-
six programs to help students explore careers, decide on college majors,
prepare for the work world, or continue their training after high school. In
addition to earning credits, the ROP program offers Certificates of
Mastery, specifying particular skills/competencies which are recognized
and respected by employers.
ROP AND WORK EXPERIENCE
CO-OP and Work Experience are classes that students can take while
they have a job. These classes enable students to earn up to 10 credits per
semester by working and extend the permissible hours of employment.
These classes usually meet once a week at 7:00 am and meets the
vocational education requirement.
WORK PERMITS
All employed minors under the age of 18 must have a Work Permit
(Education Code 49141). Work Permits must be renewed every year at
the start of each new school year or at the time the student obtains a new
job. Work Permits are required all year, not just when school is in
session. It serves as an age certificate and states the maximum hours a
minor may work. To be eligible, minors must attend school full time and
have good attendance. Work Permit applications are available in the
Career Center.

mind. Violent dancing or dancing that imitates sexual behavior will not
be tolerated. The Salinas Union High School District dress code policies
are in effect at school dances.

Pass can be purchased at the Finance Office.
FUNDRAISING
The Board of Education has given the authority to regulate ALL school
fundraisers to ASB (this includes clubs, teams, booster groups, classes,
etc.). An organization planning an event that collects any money, even
$1.00, must fill out a “Request of Approval for Fund-Raising Event”

HEALTH CORPS We are a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the
health of youths across America. To accomplish this goal, we have
Health Coordinators at a number of high schools like Alisal High! We
facilitate classroom lessons on fitness, nutrition and mental resiliency.
We create after-school opportunities for students to improve their health
through cooking lessons and group workouts. We offer one-on-one
mentoring for students and staff dedicated to whatever they may need—
meal planning, mental health, peer conflicts...etc. And lastly, we work
with teachers and students to create lasting change surrounding the
culture of health at our schools.
HOME ACCESS CENTER (HAC)

Use Agreement at the beginning of school or upon enrollment.
Students must be prepared to present their ID card when using school

and may face disciplinary action from school officials. Student
activities while using the Internet must be related to their education.

chats, etc., may interfere with another student’s access to a computer
and are not allowed.
Students enrolling after the beginning of the school year must see the
librarian to apply for a username and student computer account.
Unacceptable use of the network will result in the student losing access
privileges. Further consequences will depend on the severity and/or
the nature of the offense.

● 2nd violation – 5 day suspension of computer privileges and
notification of parents
● 3rd violation – 10 day suspension of computer privileges and

ACADEMIC COMMUNITIES
AVID
The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing
students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID
students are enrolled in the AVID elective course for four years, a course
specifically designed to support students in meeting the challenges of high
school. AVID creates a culture of college attendance, and students are
expected to enroll in AP courses. AVID students complete the A-G
requirements and are accepted to UC and CSU schools at rates higher than
the state average high school student. For more information, contact Ms.
Rice.
Health Academy
The Alisal Health Academy is a California Partnership Academy designed
to prepare 10th, 11th, and 12th students for a career in healthcare. The
Health Academy focuses on academics, A-G readiness, and active
learning. Students will develop skills required to enter college or the
immediate work force and enroll in the following courses designed
specifically for the program: Physical Therapy & Health Occupations
junior year and Dental Assistant or Physiology & Anatomy senior year. In
collaboration with local agencies, Health Academy students have the
unique opportunity to job shadow at local hospitals, mentor with local
doctors/CSUMB students, participate in presentations and forums, and
attend numerous field trips. The Health Academy is based on the small
learning community model that fosters collaborative relationships among
students. For more information, contact Ms. Frankel.
Project Lead the Way
Since 2006, Alisal has offered Project Lead the Way, a project based
engineering academy. Project Lead the Way provides students with the
bases for completing a rigorous high school academic program with an
emphasis on math, science and engineering. Students who complete the
three year program will be prepared to compete for enrollment in
engineering based colleges and universities. For more information,
contact Ms. Westerbeck.
Small Learning Communities
Alisal High is committed to providing incoming freshmen with a
positive transition program to ensure student acclimation to the rigors of
high school. This is accomplished through the implementation of the
Small Learning Community model that places students in a House with
common teachers and personalized support. Students are enrolled in a
Seminar class to assist them in meeting their academic, social and
emotional challenges. These structures provide the support necessary
for students to be successful as freshmen and beyond.
For additional information on these programs, please contact the Alisal
High School Counselors.
