The Blank Template Starting from scratch!

tart by downloading the file from the following website using your web browser http://www.training.eku.edu/trgsysstaff/tsoresources.htm .You should click on the Template for Word 2007 link. Please remember, you MUST have Office 2007 or Office 2010 for the document to work properly. Next save it to your

computer in a file/folder that makes logical sense to you.

Start up the program. Find the file in on your computer Double-click the file and it will start Word for you. When you open the file, you may see the following screen or something similar declaring that macros are disabled:

Click on the Enable Content button or Enable Macros button depending upon your software version if needed.

You may see a dialog box like the following pop up:

If you see this dialog box, you can click Yes to make this file a Trusted Document. Otherwise, you will need to click “Enable Macros” each time you create a new lesson plan.

Using The Add-Ins MenuThe Add-Ins menu is a list of macros. If you look to the far right (typically) of your menu, you should see the Add-Ins menu tab.

One thing to remember, wherever your cursor is when you select one of these macros is where it will insert the item you are requesting. For the Lesson Plan (Insert Lesson Plan) code, make sure your cursor is exactly where you want the lesson plan to be inserted or you could insert a lesson plan inside of another lesson plan accidentally. If you ever accidentally insert a lesson plan (or any other macro) in the wrong place, you can “Undo (CTRL + Z)” until it is gone.

Anticipatory Set The anticipatory set inserts the following information:

Anticipatory Set Type over this sentence to insert "Anticipatory Set."

Where it says “Type over this sentence to insert “Anticipatory Set”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your anticipatory set to say.

Build Lesson Plan The build lesson plan builds the table of contents for the course. This is done automatically in most cases and you will rarely use this function. However, it does allow you to rebuild if you so desire. It also allows you to sort based on either page number or training day.

If you have more than one lesson, you will see the following dialog box:

Please select the appropriate sort order. It defaults to No so that you can go by page number.

It will build, based on your titles, days, hours and pages, the following table on page 1.

This table of contents will, of course, change as your titles, days, or hours change.

Check for Understanding The check for understanding inserts the following information:

Check for Understanding Type over this sentence to insert "Check for Understanding."

Where it says “Type over this sentence to insert “Check for understanding.”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your check for understanding to say.

Where it says “Type over this sentence to insert “Closure.”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your closure to say.

Course Title The course title is the name for this particular course or series of lessons. This must be consistent with the Course Catalog name, TRIS documents, etc. You will see the following dialog box pop up when you click on Course Title:

The current course title will be the default. You may change it here to whatever is needed. You can also change it from anywhere that the course title is in a control (i.e. page 1 where it reads Course Title: Course Outline, on page with the same text or on each lesson plan) and it will change all references to the course title including footers and headers where appropriate.

Insert Lesson Plan The insert lesson plan inserts the following information based on several questions as follows:

This should be the title of selected lesson. TRIS limits titles to 100 characters and that should be observed here also. A title is required. If you click on the Cancel button, the entire Insert Lesson Plan will be aborted.

The name selected by default is the last person to add a lesson plan. You can change this as needed. A name is however required.

The default here is the current date. You may change this to any valid date as required. You will also be asked the following question in relation to this date entered:

Page 11: TRIS CONTENT MANAGEMENT Lesson Template · LESSON TEMPLATE 2 Click on the Enable Content button or Enable Macros button depending upon your software version if needed. You may see

L E S S O N T E M P L A T E

9

If you select Yes, the date revised field used in the headers will all be changed to the Revision Date entered. If you select No, the Revision Date remains unchanged.

A valid day number is required here. The default day will be one more than your highest day number. You may use whatever number you need. Hint: if there are only five days of training for a course, then the lesson day number should never be more than five. Please remember that whatever number you put in for the day will be a sort key for the table of contents if you choose to sort by day.

The lesson hours must exceed .25 hours and be typically no more than 7.50 hours. Also, any hour increments must be .0, .25, .50 or .75. The default will always be 7.50. After entering the hours, the code will cause a build lesson plan to execute and you will see the following dialog box:

For further information, see the Build Lesson Plan.

The insert lesson plan is what you need to make sure that each individual lesson plan becomes part of the course. Be sure your insertion point (cursor) is at the end of a section so you don’t make the lesson plan a part of anything else.

Instructional Input The instructional input inserts the following information:

Instructional Input Type over this sentence to insert "Instructional Input."

Where it says “Type over this sentence to insert “Instructional Input.”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your instructional input to say.

Modeling The modeling inserts the following information:

Modeling Type over this sentence to insert "Modeling."

Where it says “Type over this sentence to insert “Modeling.”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your modeling to say.

Performance Objectives The performance objectives insert the following information:

By the end of this lesson, participants will be able to:

Type over this sentence to insert "Performance Objectives."

This does created a bulleted list. You may type as many points as are needed.

Where it says “Type over this sentence to insert “Performance Objectives.”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your performance objectives to say. To add another point, simply hit enter after a line of text. If you’d like a new line without a new bullet point, simply hit Shift + Enter.

Protection: ON By default, your protection is on, and is reset with every time the build lesson plan code executes. The reason for the protection is that if you hit delete too many times on a content control (course title, lesson title, revision date, day, hours or minutes), it will delete the control. This causes errors with the automation process.

However, in the event you need to remove a lesson from the curriculum you will need to turn this “Protection Off” to delete or cut a lesson (see Protection: OFF). You should then run the build lesson plan to update the table of contents and set protection back on. Clicking the Protection: ON will ensure the file is protected.

12

Protection: OFF This is only to allow you to delete a lesson plan. Please be careful NOT to leave the document in this state as you can accidentally delete controls that will break your document code. See the documentation for Protection: ON.

Trainer’s Note The trainers note inserts the following information:

Trainer's Note: Type over to insert

"Trainer's Note."

Where it says “Type over to insert “Trainer’s Note.”, do that. What you type will replace what is there. This will allow you full control over what you want your trainer’s note to say.
