Welcome and Opening Prayer

It is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness’, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4.6 You are worthy, our Lord and God, All to receive glory and honour and

power. For you have created all things, All and by your will they have their

being. You are worthy, O Lamb, for you were slain, All and by your blood you ransomed

us for God. From every tribe and language and nation, All you have made us to be a

kingdom and priests serving our God.

To the One who sits on the throne and to the Lamb All be blessing and honour and

glory and might for ever and ever. Amen.

We give immortal praise to God the Father’s love, for all our comforts here, and better hopes above: He sent his own eternal Son, to die for sins that man had done. To God the Son belongs immortal glory too, who bought us with his blood from everlasting woe: and now he lives, and now he reigns, and sees the fruit of all his pains.

To God the Spirit’s name immortal worship give, whose new-creating power makes the dead sinner live: his work completes the great design, and fills the soul with joy divine. We say sorry to God

Minister We have too often exchanged the worship of the living God for idols of our own imagining. As we gather to offer our praises to the holy and undivided Trinity, and to worship him in spirit and in truth, let us call to mind our sins.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness,

through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life

to the glory of your name. Amen.

We hear God's promise of forgiveness

May the Father forgive us by the death of his Son and strengthen us to live in the power of the Spirit all our days. All Amen. Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Acts 3:1-16

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer – at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, ‘Look at us!’ 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’ 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognised him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate

called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11 While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade. 12 When Peter saw this, he said to them: ‘Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. 14 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. 16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.

The Sermon (11-26) God has done ‘When Peter saw this, he said to them: ‘Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.’ (v12-13)

‘Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you – even Jesus. 21 Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.’ (v19-21)

We declare our faith We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

We speak to God Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

All Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

We ask for God's blessing God the Father, who first loved us and made us accepted in the beloved Son, bless you. Amen. God the Son, who loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, bless you. Amen. God the Holy Spirit, who sheds abroad the love of God in our hearts, bless you. Amen. The blessing of the one true God, to whom be all love and all glory for time and for eternity, come down upon you and remain with you always. Amen.

May the peace of God, our heav’nly Father, And the grace of Christ, the risen Son, And the fellowship of God the Spirit Keep our hearts and minds within His love. The Lord God almighty is our Father: he loves us and tenderly cares for us. The Lord Jesus Christ is our Saviour: he has redeemed us and will defend us to the end. The Lord, the Holy Spirit, is among us: he will lead us in God’s holy way. To God almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be praise and glory today and for ever. Amen.
