COUNCIL MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Greetings,

I am Brent Weiss one of Our Redeemer’s newest coun-

cil members. Following is a little information about myself.

I was born and raised in Crookston, Minnesota, and

moved to Pine City in the fall of 1987 to start my career in

education. Presently I teach grades 1-6 physical education

at Pine City Elementary School, I coach 7th grade football,

and I also teach driver’s education to our local youth. I am

married to Laura Schuler, a local Pine City gal. We have a

married daughter, Kayla who has made us proud grand-

parents, with another one on the way.

Since I teach Driver’s Ed, I get many people asking me

how I could ever get in the car and drive around with inex-

perienced high school students. My response is, “The Lord

is my Shepherd,” but in reality the brake on my side of the

car also gives me great comfort!!

As a congregation we are at a compelling time in our

church. Our Ministry Site Profile should be out in circula-

tion available for a new pastor to view who then may be

willing to call Pine City their home for many years to come.

Our very capable “Call Committee” will hopefully be sifting

through many resumes over the coming days or months to

make sure we get the best possible pastor to lead ORLC.

We continue to ask all members to pray for this “Call Com-

mittee” during this process. As a congregation we are so

blessed to have Pastor Luedke guiding us on a faithful

journey until a permanent pastor can take over the reins.

In conclusion I would like to give kudos to all ORLC

members that financially support Our Redeemer. Our

“general offering giving” has been on the upswing com-

pared to the same time last year. Let’s keep up the good

work!

God Bless, Brent Weiss (council member)

CALL PROCESS UPDATE

OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH July 14, 2019

The Our Redeemer Call Committee met on Sunday, July 14, 2019. The committee discussed the “Call Process Manual” provided by the Synod and the “Ministry Site Profile” written to repre-sent the strengths and needs of ORLC. Thanks to some diligent work by the Profile Committee (Vicki Pieper, Sue Osterdyk, and Jeneice Carter), the MSP gave us very little concern and we are excited to present it as completed to the ELCA and the Bishop’s office. The Ministry Site Profile will be submitted to Brenda Tibbetts, Synod Rep, on Thursday July 18 and the process will commence. The MSP will be made public and we will begin to see names of candidates who fit the ministry needs of the congregation. Names of candidates will be present-ed to our committee, along with their profiles, and the interviews will begin. Though we have met only twice, it is clear the Call Committee has common goals aligned with scripture and prayer. The committee is adamant in seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all we do. We feel the journey begun through the guidance of Pastor Fred is now growing deeper in faith and trust. The congregation has spoken over the past several months about our “next steps”, and the committee is excited to represent a church “on the move”. We feel we have a clear understanding of the desires of the congregation and believe God will provide far more than we may even expect. What we desire from you as congregational members is understanding, prayer, and faith. Our focus centers in finding God’s choice for Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. We have no personal agenda and no pre-conceived notion as to whom that may be. What we do know is this is a pro-cess which is far more involved than any of us expected. Also, be aware that this process is ex-tremely confidential. We simply cannot and will not share the details. There are lives, careers, families, callings, and people who trust us to act in confidence during this journey. We are com-mitted to respect and to comply with those expectations. Trust that we will be working as hard as we can to bring God’s plan into fruition over the next months and believe that we are being led as we move forward. Again, accept our thanks for your trust and understanding. Respectfully, Our Redeemer Call Committee

A NORTHERN LIGHT

by Jennifer Donnelly

The setting takes place in 1906 in New York State. We meet Mattie, a 16

year old, who is determined to attend college to pursue writing. Her fa-

ther and fiancé are dead set against this idea. She is then forced to take

job at a summer inn in the Adirondack Mountains and she discovers the

truth about the death of a guest. This book is based on a true story.

Books are available for check out from the church office.

REMINDER: Members are to bring $25 towards

May 17 Graduation Sunday @ 9:30 worship

There was discussion on when to return to two services. It was determined to be the first Sunday after Labor Day. We are current-ly serving approximately 80 parishioners at 8:00 and approximately 100+ at 9:30 during the School year. In addition, we offer both a traditional service and a praise and worship service to accommodate most of our members while remaining true to Christ. The annual change to two services was pushed back a few years ago to accommodate a ‘God’s work, Our Hands’ day which has been discontinued so, the standard return to two services as the first Sunday after Labor Day is recommended. If the numbers decline significantly, the issue can be revisited at any time. Thursday services are continuing as of this writing. Members of the preaching pool have been generous in serving these members and we offer our thanks. Picnic church is going well. There are quite a number of new people eating and worshiping. Several wonderful messages have been shared during this service and all who can manage are encouraged to attend this community event sponsored by ORLC. The next Worship meeting is scheduled for August 13th, 2019, on group ministry night. Please bring any agenda items to our attention prior to this meeting.

CYF Council Report 2020 Mission Trip: I have been thinking and praying a lot about the 2020 summer mission trip and New Mexico has been standing out to me ever since I looked at the location (a short description below). The New Mexico trip would cost around $800-$900 depending on if we drive or fly. Dates would probably be June 26 - July 4th/5th. From Next Step Ministry “Two hours from Albuquerque in the desert canyons of the Navajo Nation lies the beautiful and isolated community of Crownpoint. Students will work alongside the Navajo people while learning about their history, culture, and the challenges they currently face.”

School year Wednesday Night Church: As I plan for confirmation and fall programming, I am wondering about Wednesday Night Church and if it is something we continue. Worship will only work if we have someone who can take time to plan and work with student and adult singers. Worship will also only work if we have a pastor who can lead it. The dinner portion really needs to be reevaluated. I noticed when asking families to help cook the meal and serve they had a hard time getting here early enough to do it. I am also curious as to who is “in charge” are heading up Wednesday night church? Would it now be worship committee? Last year it was Pastor Fred who was really “in charge”. I personally do not have enough time in my day to take on the whole program with confirmation planning, Sun-day school planning, and everything else on my plate to get done for the 2019-2020 school year. One suggestion I do have is the time structure. I think it would work best if dinner is from 5:30-6:30, Worship at 6:30-7:15, confirmation/bible studies 7:15-8. The children ’s ministry portion will be after school from 3 to 5:30 Oct-Nov and Jan-Feb.
