Design eliminates needfor threads or hubs . . .No hard-to-clean recessesin product zone.

LUBRICATION . . .separate oil lubrication for timinggears. Dual compartment gear/bearing housing design assuresthat any condensates or contami-nants present are flushed throughbearings and sealed off fromtiming gear housing.

GEARS . . .and shafts are factory pretimed and designed so that eitherone or both gears can be removed and replaced in the fieldwithout removal of shaft or bearings. Each gear and shaftassembly is assembled with two woodruff keys for rigidity andlong service life.

ROTORS* . . .available two- or four-lobe polymercomposition rotors serve mostproduct or flow requirements.Polymer rotor is recommended forabrasive products. Wear iscompensated for by increasedRPM. See Page 15 for tempera-ture data requirements.

*(Model PR3 available with six-lobe polymer composition rotorsonly).

LOCATING RING. . .is pressed into frame bearing bores to promote rigidity andaccurate alignment of pump casing so that proper clearancewithin fluid head will prolong wear life and operatingefficiency. Wide locating area of ring permits innumerableassemblies and disassemblies of pump without ring replace-ment - and the need to realign pump head. Short (3/16"(4.8mm) or less) engagement of ring to casing permits easytakedown and assembly – without cocking, binding, orhammering.

PR - The Pump that was designed with the Processor in mindFluid Head – Positive alignment

Static O-ring sealing and precision rotors

Gear Casing – Balanced loadTwo compartment lubricationPrecision machined gears, bearings, and shafts

• Less downtime – PR can be disassembled and assembled fasterthan any other positive rotary pump you can buy.

• Selectivity – Choose from a variety of types and models to fillspecific pumping requirements.

Take a look at the pumps that were designed with you in mind–then usethis catalog to select the model for your operating requirements. Thedesign features described below make PR the low maintenance, easy tolive with pump for application. (Series PR illustrated – features alsoapply to PRE and PRED).

The Tri-Clover PR line was designed to overcome many of the traditionallytroublesome operating and maintenance difficulties which our customershave experienced with conventional positive displacement pumps.

Meeting these requirements, combined with precision fabrication and strictadherence to sanitary standards, have accorded the PR pump prompt andwidespread acceptance – wherever product is processed, hygienically, involume. All PRE/PRED pumps are designed to be in compliance with 3Aand other regulatory standards.

Four reasons why progressive processors specifyTri-Clover Model PR Pumps:• Low product loss to leakage – Static O-ring sealing action.

• Low maintenance characteristics:

SHAFT ASSEMBLY . . .easily interchanged in field.Spline is involuted to presentmaximum contact betweenshaft and rotor profiles; and islocated, in relation to timinggears and keyways, so thatrotors are fully interchangeable. Two large teeth, A ,locate rotorfor proper timing and fastassembly. Tru-Arc Rings, B ,positively locate complete shaftassemblies and timing gears, eliminating troublesomeshimming. Precisionmachining permits fullinterchange of top and bottomshaft assemblies, in field, withminimum of time and effort.

PR SeriesThe construction featuresoutlined on page 2 add up torigid, efficient and mainte-nance-free service when youput PR on the line. Unlikemany positive pumps, thedesign of PR acknowledgesyour need for periodictakedown and reassembly.

The PR Series is recom-mended for most transferoperations where tempera-tures do not exceed 200°F(93°C) and where productsare nonabrasive or non-tacky.

Leak-tight sealing action . . .with static o-ring sanitary seal. All o-rings contact non-ro-tating surfaces. Static o-ringdesign of rotary seal reducesfriction to minimize wear andleakage and increase seal life.Sealing members consist ofstainless steel seal rings withcarbon-bonded insert, SSwear ring broached to match

shaft spline to assure positive drive, and static o-rings to seal off anypumpage. Sealing action takes place between carbon insert of seal ring, held stationary in pump casing, and face of positively driven wear ring.Equally good seal life is assured under either high pressure or vacuumoperations.

A water flush attachment, which can be installed in the field, is availablefor pumping service requiring it.

PR pumps are designed so that mounting holes, ports, shaft heights andshaft diameters permit interchangeability with other positive pumps ofU.S. manufacturers. A variety of motors and drive units are availablefor constant and variable speed flow rates, including

• Gearhead drive• Mechanical variable speed• V-Belt drive• Hydraulic drive• AC variable speed with constant speed gear drive

AC Adjustable Frequency Motor Controls

This drive system capability is highly cost efficient in terms of initialcost, potential energy savings, and its ability to provide pumpingcontrol that can reduce error, boost production, and increase rawmaterial yield. An AC controller in your system can accept a signalfrom a computer, PC controller, or pressure/flow sensing instrument.Tri-Clover offers a variety of AC controllers, from ½ HP and up, forour positive pumps.

PRE/PRED SeriesThis line of PR pumps wasintroduced to provideoptimum pumpingperformance on hot, tacky orviscous products. It providesa high degree of leakagedetection and leakage safeguardcapability. The same static o-ring seal principle as the PRSeries (described at left) isused. Two series are available:

PRE Series – Single Seal. Idealfor use where visual leakdetection is important.

PRED Series – Double Seal. For use where water flush isdesirable, i.e., on evaporatoroperations, liquid sugar, tackyproducts such as corn syrup.

Additional protection forapplications:

• requiring compatiblesolvent or water-flush

• requiring pressurized sealchamber. (Seal can be

maintained at pressuresabove pump head pressure).

• with products that tend to buildup between seal faces, latex, PVA, etc.

These Series have a seal chamber to permit use of solvents or water for seallubrication. On double seal pumps, chamber may be pressurized or non-pressurized, depending upon application.

Application DataViscosity Affects Pump Efficiency

Rotary pumps are capable of transferring materials havingviscosities as high as 1,000,000 SSU. However, it is necessaryto apply correction factors to the performance curves in orderto obtain the correct pump and motor size for use with viscousmaterials. These correction factors may be obtained from thecurves shown here. Their use can best be explained by a samplepump selection:

Pump Requirements

• 25 GPM at 20 PSI with material having a viscosity of50,000 SSU.

Referring to the curves, we find the following correctionfactors –

• Percent of maximum rated speed = 22%• Horsepower multiplying factor = 1.62

Applying the 22% speed correction factor to the maximumspeed shown on the pump performance curves results in the

following maximum pump speeds with 50,000 SSU product:

• Models 3 and 10: 600 RPM from curve X .22 = 132RPM

• Models 26, 60, 125 and 300: 500 RPM from curve X.22 = 110 RPM

Therefore, with 50,000 SSU product, if a Model 3 or 10 pumpis used, the speed of the pump must be 110 RPM or less.

25 GPM will require at least a Model 25 pump. Reviewing theperformance curves to find a pump that will deliver 25 GPM at20 PSI with 110 RPM or less, we find that a Model 125 pump isrequired. It will operate at 105 RPM and requires a .9 HP motorfor water or milk.

Applying the 1.62 horsepower factor to the 8 HP we find the HPrequirement is 1.3 HP. It will be necessary to use a 1½ HP motor. Therefore, for 25 GPM at 20 PSI with 50,000 SSU product aModel 125 operating at 105 RPM with a 1½ HP motor isrequired.
