Theme – The BFG Read, listen to or watch Roald Dahl’s The BFG and see if you can complete the following tasks. Theme – The BFG

Read, listen to or watch Roald Dahl’s The BFG and see if you can complete the following tasks. (NB: All written tasks can be supported by an adult in the form of scribing or supporting in copying if more appropriate)

Task 1

The BFG uses lots of different made up words. Can you identify some of those words? See if you can create some of your own made up words and say what they mean.

Challenge - Can you make a dictionary/glossary for your new made up words?

Task 2

Explore other stories that have been written by the author Roald Dahl. There are books, audios and some have been made into films so see if you can read/listen to and watch some of his work. Features of a Biography:

Roald Dahl uses similes such as ‘His arm was as thick as a tree trunk’ when describing the BFG. Can you either find a picture of a giant or draw your own character and then think of some similes to describe it? See if you can write them down.

Challenge – See if you can complete the simile challenge attached.

Task 4

Write a recipe for a new dream. Think about what ‘ingredients’ will you need and see if you can make a list. Think about the order that you will need to mix them in. See attached sheet.

Challenge- Can you write instructions to teach someone else how to make this dream. See if you can number the instructions.

Task 5

The BFG describes how he can hear the plants and trees because they are alive. How do we know that they are alive? What processes do they have?

Can you plant some seeds, give them what they need and grow your very own plant? There is a seed diary attached that you could fill in to record the growth and progress.

Challenge

See if you can fill in the Photosynthesis sheet attached!

Task 6

The BFG hates eating snozzcumbers! Can you plan a tasty 3 course meal for the BFG and your family? Can you identify the different food groups? Think about making healthy choices and including foods from the different groups to support a balanced diet.

With adult support, see if you can practise your food tech skills by making at least one course from your menu.

Task 7

The BFG travels to lots of different places. To find humans to gobble up! See if you can find the different places on a map and talk about their similarities and differences.

Challenge – Can you produce a travel brochure giving information about all of the different places that the BFG visited? You can use the computer to create this or print pictures to stick on.

Task 8

Can you make a dream catcher like the pictures below? You will either need to make holes around the edge of a circle and thread wool/string/ribbon through or you can just cut pieces of paper and stick them across the middle to give the same effect.
