Hey kids! Did youknow there’s adventure andtreasure all around you? There’stons of things you can see anddiscover in your own yard, out withfriends, or on family adventures!

Did you know that fossils are actuallyrocks made out of plants, animals and

dinosaurs that died millions of years ago? Fossils are all around us, you just have to look. Ever see a plant eat meat? Well, there’s plants right here in Ontariothat actually eat bugs! Gross! WSC Survival School andSchool In The Woods will lead you on some incredible survival and wilderness journeys.

Sometimes right under your feet there are coins lost bypeople hundreds of years ago! A couple of swings with ametal detector could start a really neat coin collection.Check out our Metal Detecting Challenge and learn how.

Bet you didn’t know that people all over the world areplanting little treasures for you to discover! It’s calledGeocaching, and your whole family can go treasure huntinganywhere, anytime you want! David Arama, world-renownedexpert will teach you how. No experience necessary.

If you’re going on vacation, be sure to bring a pan with youand we don’t mean a baking pan. Gold panning in northernor eastern Ontario can be an amazing adventure, andthere really is gold in them thar hills! Our Gold PanningChallenge will give you a taste of yellow fever.

Mystery Merchants scatteredaround the grounds will havethe mystery sticker for yourpassport. As treasure hunters,if luck should be in your favour,you will win an adventurealong with that sticker.

At the RocktonFairground the firstBeverly AgriculturalSociety Fair was held inOctober 1852. Therewere 181 members andprize money paid to theexhibitor’s was $194.50.Compare this to today'svolunteer membership of 500 and prize moneyof $80, 000 paid to over 1200 exhibitors.

The oldest Canadian coin wasunearthed in Newfoundland.The small lead coin probablydates back to the 1640s. Ithas the initials DK on it, whichare believed to belong toDavid Kirke who was not onlyNewfoundland's governor atthe time but also ran a tavernand had a licence from theking to make his own money.

South Porcupine hasthe oldest operatinggold mine in Canada.

Into The WildIf you’re set on adventure then into the wild you’llgo, but it’s latitude and longitude you must know!

Geocaching is a treasure huntwhere participants use a GlobalPositioning System (GPS) tohide and seek geocaches orcaches anywhere in the world.

The most extreme geocachein the world is one placed atthe Rainbow HydrothermalVents at a depth of 2.3 km inthe Atlantic Ocean. It wasplaced July 19, 2002 and isstill there to be discovered.

A hydrothermal vent isa crack in the planet'ssurface at the bottom ofoceans that spew outheated water. Often richin exotic marine lifeincluding giant tubeworms, clams, limpetsand shrimp.

Natural KingdomFeel all fuzzy if it’s furry or feathered, then findyour friend who’s leg may be teathered

The Chapleau Game Preserveand Wildlife Sanctuary in northern Ontario, comprising800,000 hectares, is thelargest game preserve in theworld, and the only shootingdone here is with cameras.Wildlife that call the sanctuaryhome include birds of prey,otters, mink, fox, wolves, moose,black bears and more!

White River in north-western Ontario is thebirthplace of the realWinnie the Pooh. AWinnipeg soldier adopteda bear cub duringWorld War I and took itwith him to England. Helater donated it to theLondon Zoo, where itbecame the inspirationfor A.A. Milne’s famousstories.

Majestic SteedThese noble men of steel upon majestic steed,for nearly 200 years of crusades they did lead

I joust you not, in medieval times,the most honourable sport wasthat of the Joust. Knights armedwith lances, would battle to thedeath. The sport had one majordrawback — a Knight killed in thejoust was one less Knight thatcould defend the kingdom. Solucky for the Knight’s, the Kingwisely decided that a safer sportwas in order, one where thechampion was measured by skillrather than his heartbeat.

A new Jousting Lanceused at tournamentswas designed toreduce the number of potential injuries to the Knights. The purpose was tounhorse the opposingrider as opposed tokilling them.
