We lived in Northwest hills, and I went to school at Anderson High School for 2 years, and Hyde Park High School for 2 years. Graduated from HPBHS in 1982, and left for Baylor University.

In 1998, I moved on to fly Boeing 727s in cargo operations around the US, and Central America. After 9-11, I was furloughed from that job, and went to work for Delta Connection. This would last from 2001 to 2007.

Today, I am a captain on an Airbus A320/A321 for Jetblue Airways. My base is in New York at JFK airport.

We enjoy services at our church, Austin Ridge Bible Church. I was part of a small team of men that got together and built a disc golf course on our church property on Bee Caves. It’s an amazing course, designed by a professional, and open to the public.

My hobbies/interests are: traveling with Karen and the girls, hunting, tinkering with (fixing) things, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

A tree was planted in the past in our neighborhood by neighbors of a favored resident that passed away. If you would like to honor a loved one with a tree or a small memorial area of landscaping within Travis Country West, please contact Ascension Property Management.

Ascension PM has been working with the City of Austin to request sidewalk repair near the mailboxes near the pool. If sidewalks near your property are in need of repair, please notify our office with your address and a description of the location so we can add to the order.

SIDEWALK REPAIR

Please join the neighbors in our Easter egg hunt which will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00am. Hop over to the field behind the pool parking lot, adjacent to the playground. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. We ask that children 4 years and up kindly let the littlest of our community lead the hunt for the first 20 minutes. Don’t worry, kiddos! There will be a golden egg that will take a very skilled Easter egg hunter to find. There will also be an egg-in-spoon relay race, so any over-achievers out there may want to consider practicing with a plastic spoon and hard-boiled egg. Grab a partner for the Easter-egg toss, too- big or small. Don’t forget to bring your basket!

Any plastic eggs, fillers, or ready-to-go eggs would be greatly appreciated. We have a goal of 10-15 eggs per participant. If you are interested in donating anything, there will be a box by the front door of 5204 Fort Benton Drive (in the cul-de-sac across from the pool).

Any neighbors willing to assist with this event, please contact Dusty Olson. Feel free to call, text, or email! (512) 934-0333 or [email protected]

Many of you have probably noticed the cleanout project that has taken place along the walking trail. The cleanout is important to allow the drainage system to function properly, which will reduce the continued washout of granite from the walking trail. There is a small amount of clearing yet to take place. Once the additional work is completed, the landscape company will be onsite with a chipper to eliminate the material that has been cleaned and trimmed from the drainage system. Having the chipper work performed in one day will save funds. We thank you for your patience during this project.

INDIAN MEAL MOTHS

Indianmeal moths can be found in dogfood, birdseed, cereals, dried fruit, nuts, powdered milk and candy. Adults are small with grayish wings tipped in copper. Larvae are creamy yellow to yellow-green to pink and often crawl along pantry walls. Spun pupal cases are often found along corners and edges of wall areas.

To eliminate a pantry pest problem, the first step is to locate and remove all infested items. Removing infested items is the easy part; finding the infestation is not always so simple. Begin with the oldest food items, usually in the back of the pantry. Inspect everything, including unopened food items since these can also be a source. If you find an infested item, do not stop your inspection, more than one item may be infested.

Throw away infested items. If you don’t feel that you can throw away food, place the infested food in a ziptop plastic bag and place it in the freezer for about 5-7 days or spread the infested food item on a baking sheet and bake at 250 degrees for 4-6 hours to kill any insects. Once all the insects are dead, you can sift the food item or pick out the insects. Of course, you can always just leave the insects in the food and get a little more protein with your meal!

It is extremely important to find the source, and not all pantry pest infestations come from the pantry. Check rooms for items such as dried, decorative peppers, dried flowers, potpourri or rice heating packs.
