Bali is one of the 34 provinces of the Republic of Indonesia and has become the prime holiday destination in

Indonesia as well as one of the major holiday destinations for international tourists. The island is located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying

between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, and divided into 9 districts (8 regencies and 1 municipality) with

population around four million people.

Denpasar is the capital and most populous city of Bali.

The vast majority of the Balinese people are Hindu so there are a significant number of temples on the island. Temple or Pura in

Indonesian is the place for worship, and the biggest,

most important and holiest temple in Bali is the Mother

Temple of Besakih.

Bali has a tropical climate all year with average temperature of 31

degrees Celsius and two different seasons. Dry

season is between May

and September with high humidity and wet season is between October andApril

with low humidity. From June to August, the weather is usually nice, breezy and

cool.

The main language is Indonesia, however being one of the most favourite holiday destinations in

the world, not only many people speak English but also other foreign

languages such as French, Japanese, Chinese,

Germany.

“Balinese Hindu has many ways to express their love to the gods and deities, one of them comes

in form of Gebogan, a beautiful decoration wonderfully crafted and presented as a symbol of

gratitude.”

If you happen to witness a Balinese celebration ritual, you might notice some ladies in kebaya dress carrying a tall

decoration on their head composed by variety of things. This called ‘gebogan’, derived from Balinese language means

‘amount’.

Mainly consist of fresh fruits, flowers and colorful ornaments, gebogan is an offering made by patiently placing the

ingredients one by one from the base until it forms a triangle or mountain shape. It is later delivered to the Pura by Balinese

ladies who walk through a certain distance, carrying the whole offering on their head. Once arrived at the temple,

gebogan will be blessed by the priest and later dismantled to be shared among friend and families.

In Sebatu area, Tegalalang, the height of Gebogan is jaw-droppingly tall; sometime even surpass the height of its bearer. The highest Gebogan ever recorded is three meters. It takes skill and physical endurance to carry Gebogan and that feats are done regularly by the Balinese ladies as a part

of their religious ritual.

Gebogan has an important meaning for Balinese Hindu people, which is an expression of gratitude for all good

things the gods have given in their life

The romantic aura permeated around Hard Rock Cafe Bali’s Center Stage on 12th January 2015 as the crowds gathered, anticipating the presence of Michael Learns To Rock. Located on the Northern

most point of Badung Regency, Petang or Plaga village has been known for its intact ecological

aspect. Most of the village’s inhabitant make their living by working as farmers. Several plantations can be found throughout the village area, such as corn, vanilla, several vegetables and—the most popular one, organic coffee gardens.

The village’s rural atmosphere is complimented with the sight of the legendary Ayung River that runs through the area, with the sight of lush paddy terrace on each side. Visit and interact with the local farmers who will gladly share their knowledge and experience, even let you try the result of their efforts, from fresh boiled corn to a glass of authentic Balinese coffee.

In this village you can also find marigold flower plantation. This bright yellow-colored flower is called ‘gumitir’ by the locals, and is widely used as offerings in the Pura (Balinese temple)

Take your time away from the fancy beaches and

hype night clubs to explore the trail of history during your holiday! Kesiman village is a place for all knowledge seekers and enthusiasts who wish to visit the remnants of Bali’s historical past times.

One of the sites you can visit in this area is Puri Agung Kesiman, a palace/temple that was built around the year of 1774, an era of Badung Kingdom Regime. It was influenced by southern architectural style, with high brick walls and tall gates surrounding the whole compound. Kesiman also has a unique ritual called ‘Pengerebongan’. By enacting this ceremony, the

villagers believe to be spared from plague and disaster. During the Pengerebongan, trance is not an uncommon phenomenon; in fact, it becomes one of the ritual’s most anticipated highlights.

There are several others interesting destinations in Kesiman, such as Kertalangu cultural village and a library with vast-collections of literatures called Taman Baca Kesiman (TBK).

If you crave Indonesian food for lunch during

14th century, time where Danghyang Nirartha—the legendary Hindu Priest, started his spiritual journey around the island of Bali. There is a ‘Konco’ or Buddhist Temple adjacent in the temple compound

regularly used by the Buddhist to hold their religious ceremony. Inside the area of Tanah Kilap you can find a gorgeous temple called Candi Narmada, a place used to worship the goddess Kundalini.

Originally built around 11th century, Pura Luhur

Batukaru is a part of nine ‘kahyangan jagat’ temples built around the island to ward off evil spirits. It is also dedicated to the ancestors of Tabanan Kings.

The most captivating of Batukaru Temple is a large pond located deep in the middle of temple area. The pond is filled with huge goldfish and beautiful koi fish, which respond actively when the visitors throw them some pieces of bread. A small shrine is built in the center of

the pond that can be reached by walking through partially-drowned stone steps.

Balinese Hindu occasionally come and pray at Batukaru temple. They drink and wash their body using the temple’s fresh spring water before they begin the ceremony. Visitors are allowed to taste the refreshing water as well, but prohibited from entering the sacred prayer ground. Once a year, there is a massive pilgrimage where thousands of Hindu worshippers walk together to reach the mountain peak.
