Recycle Bins in the Town of Lashburn There has been a problem with persons putting their cardboard outside of

the cardboard bins at the recycle bin area.

Cardboard must be broken down and placed inside the designated bins.

Anyone caught leaving items outside the bins can and will be prosecuted

under the Town of Lashburn’s Waste Management Bylaw.

Although the recycle system is by no means perfect, Please do not spoil the

“system” that the Town has in place for the convenience of all residents by

your refusal to place the cardboard in the appropriate bin.

If the bins were to be removed, we would all have to take our recycle items

to the WYWRA Landfill ourselves.

Please also be aware that it is an offence to put your garbage into other

people’s or other business’ bins. Please do not put regular garbage into the

recycle bins.

A huge thank you to all of you who do abide by the rules and to those of

you who even go so far as to pick up the messes left by the minority. .

Snow Plowing Notice

As a general guideline for snow removal,

priority will be given as follows:

1. Streets (A ridge may be left in your

driveway until all streets and alleys

are cleared)

2. Back alleys

3. Snow ridges cleared

4. Sidewalks

5. Garbage pick-up will resume, recycle

bin lot cleared.

6. Main Street snow will be hauled

away.

7. Custom Work Requests will be

handled at this point as time allows.

Please also note that Town employees

cannot use Town vehicles/equipment to

pull/tow you if you get stuck.

Thank you for your understanding of the

above.

Thank you - Town of Lashburn

The Town offers custom work snow removal. If you

wish to have this service, contact the Town office.

The work will not be done until all town

roads/alleys/sidewalks are done. You will need to let

the office know whether you want the snow moved

from one spot to another on your lot or hauled away.

There is an extra charge for the snow to be hauled

away.

Corned Beef Hash Recipe Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and Corned Beef Hash is one of my favorite breakfasts, served

best with some type of runny yoke egg! So if you have left over Corned Beef, or can pick some up from the

store this is a delicious meal and is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!

2-3 Tbsp unsalted butter

1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)

2-3 cups finely chopped, cooked corned beef

2-3 cups chopped cooked potatoes, preferably Yukon gold

Salt and pepper

Chopped fresh parsley

1 Heat butter in a large skillet (preferably cast iron) on medium heat. Add the onion and cook a

few minutes, until translucent.

2 Mix in the chopped corned beef and potatoes. Spread out evenly over the pan. Increase the heat

to high or medium high and press down on the mixture with a metal spatula.

3 Do not stir the potatoes and corned beef, but let them brown. If you hear them sizzling, this is

good. Use a metal spatula to peek underneath and see if they are browning. If nicely browned, use

the spatula to flip sections over in the pan so that they brown on the other side. Press down again

with the spatula. If there is too much sticking, you can add a little more butter to the pan.

Continue to cook in this manner until the potatoes and the corned beef are nicely browned.

4 Remove from heat, stir in chopped parsley. Add plenty of freshly ground black pepper, and add

salt to taste.

Serve with fried or poached eggs for breakfast.

Snow Removal It is the occupant’s responsibility (or owner if no occupant) for every house abutting on

a street where there are sidewalks, to remove the snow of that sidewalk within 24 hours after every snowfall. Snow that falls on your property is not to be pushed onto Town property or other person’s property

without their permission. The Town property includes the street,

alleys, culverts, boulevards, sidewalks, and Town lots. You are responsible for the

snow on the Town’s boulevard if you are using the boulevard to access your own

property such as a driveway.

The Town has a snow collection area west of the Sportsplex, adjacent to the RM road (NE Corner of the Intersection of 2

nd Street

East and the RM Road.) Property owners will be billed for any snow they have placed on town property that the Town has to remove in the spring to get the

water running. Thank you for your assistance in the snow removal issue.

If you hire or have someone other than the Town clean your driveways or boulevards, it is your responsibility to have any damage

to the Town’s boulevard or your own property repaired in the spring.

The Town would like to thank those people who move their vehicles when the grader is

out grading the snow on the streets.

Tips for Daylight Saving Time happening on March 9th, 2014!

1. Prep yourself over the weekend. The usual rule of thumb for daylight savings time is that it takes someone about one day to adjust for every hour of time

change. To combat the effects of sleep deprivation for the first few days of Daylight Savings Time, give yourself some time to

adjust before the weekend ends. Reset one of your clocks on Friday night or Saturday morning, and try to wake up, eat three

meals and go sleep following the new schedule.

2. Get more exercise.

3. Make the division between night and day clear. One of the hardest things for your body to adjust to in coming days will be the fact that since the daylight is lasting longer, your

body's circadian rhythm will be thrown off-balance. The best way to help your body cope with Daylight Savings Time is to

have the right balance of light and dark in your day. In the morning, open up the shades and set your lights as bright as they can

go. Try to get outside during the day, even if it’s just at lunch, to get some of that natural sunlight, too. In evening, dim the

lights or only have some of them on when it gets dark. Try to stay inside, and close the shades so street lights don't get in. This

way, your body knows that it’s time to start getting ready to sleep.
