In frame of the efforts deployed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism to bring back the flow of tourists to Egypt,

and under the slogan entitled “Egypt in our Hearts”, the Egyptian tourism office in Rome, initiated by its Italian counterpart, invited a VIP delegation comprised of 50 members of the Italian tourism deci- sion makers, representatives from the most important tour operators and travel agencies, as well as media members, to visit Cairo recently. The delegation was headed by Mr. Roberto Corbella, ASTOI President and Mr. Alberto Corti, Director General Federviaggio.

This visit is in support of Egypt and reflects the depth

EGYPT in our heartsof the bilateral cooperation and relationship between Italy and Egypt.

The delegation organized a stand-up in Tahrir Square in solidarity with the Egyptians, where they had weared t-shirts marked with the Egyptian flag and the event’s logo, as well as, carrying a 40 meters long Egyptian flag. The delegation visited the Pyramids area, the Egyptian Museum and some of the most important touristic sites.

It is noteworthy to mention that Italy was one of the first countries to lift its travel ban on Egypt in support for the Egyptian tourism sector, confirming the return of stability to the country.

5,000 Say ‘We Love Egypt’Huge crowds turned out to show their support for holidays in Sharm El Sheikh at a We Love Egypt festival organized

at SOHO Square, the Red Sea’s #1 venue for restaurants, entertainment and shopping. More than 5,000 people cheered, danced, sang, wined and dined in a unique event in Egypt representing the million UK tourists who come to Sharm El Sheikh each year.

“Holidaymakers, tour leaders, hoteliers, residents and business people from all walks of life came to show why Sharm El Sheikh holds a special place in their hearts.

“Throughout the momentous days that saw our country transform into a new era we rejoiced to see our guests enjoying their holidays in the unchanging tranquillity on the ageless shores of the Red Sea. We watched, as millions did, the events unfold in faraway Cairo. We prayed for the peaceful outcome that thankfully transpired. We took great pride in our young people’s restraint; their determination to show the world that theirs was a legitimate cause.

“The people came to us and asked us to give them an opportunity to show why they love the City of Peace.”A minute’s silence was observed marking the events that ushered in Egypt’s new era. The British Consul Dawn Bacon

told the crowd their support was an affirmation of British-Egyptian continuing cooperation. “We Love Egypt,” she said.

As normality returns to Egypt, the UN World Tourism

Organization (UNWTO) welcomes efforts by national authorities to restore confidence among tourists and by foreign governments to update travel advisories accordingly.

Major tourism sites are open to the public, airlines have resumed flights, tour operators in many of the main source markets have restarted selling holidays, and governments have updated their travel advisories to reflect the unfolding situation.

“As the situation has evolved over the past few weeks, I have been pleased to see that travel advisories have been kept accurate, confined to the affected areas, and regularly updated,” said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai.

As the situation returns to normal, tourism - a highly resilient economic sector - will be among the first sectors to rebound and is, therefore, well-positioned to support the overall economic recovery. UNWTO is working with the relevant authorities to ensure a speedy bounce back and the upcoming travel trade fair, ITB, will be a good opportunity to consolidate these efforts,” he added.

Tourism has long been, and will continue to be, an integral part of the Egyptian national economies. International tourism receipts over GDP alone represent around 6% in Egypt. This share is even higher when the full tourism sector is considered, reaching as much as 11% in the case of Egypt.

Egypt reported 12 million international tourist arrivals in 2009, and preliminary results for 2010 are 14 million.

In terms of international tourism receipts, the figures stand at around US$11 billion in 2009 and US$12.5 billion in 2010.

We are very optimistic with the future of the Egyptian tourism section and I am sure that it will back to normal very soon.

Having just entered 2011 we can see that it will be a year of change. After current events it will be difficult to predict how

the rest of the year will look like. There have been a lot of expectations for this coming year because of the positive response we have received from the markets worldwide. The actual booking situation for the remaining winter; and the forecasts for the upcoming summer season were very promising.

We can view the effects recent events have had on Egypt’s Tourism industry. All we can do at this

stage in time is to once again show everybody our resilience, as well as, our professionalism in order to get back into the game. By working together we can bring forth the Egypt ‘we’ know, the Egypt that has brought so much joy and fun to our previous guest. Together ‘we’ can show the ‘real’ Cairo, the ‘real’ Alexandria, cities that are not filled with turmoil but places that are waiting to show the world its security and ancient treasures.

Flash Tour “geared up” itself for a strong 2011 mainly on the Nile where the requests from the German, French and Dutch market have exceeded our expectations. We substantially increased our capacity by taking more Nile cruise boats under long-term commitments. We invested quite a considerable amount in up-grading these products to guarantee the standard clients expect to find when joining a Nile cruise with Flash Tour. Therefore, we are very confident that the product portfolio we created for our partners will be their solid base for the seasons to come.

Our main partners on the Nile, the FTI-Group from Germany, Corendon from Holland & Belgium and Promovacance from France, have all promoted the Nile cruise combinations with Hurghada, and Marsa Alam very well. With the FTI-Group, we re-launched the unique program Nile + Sharm El Sheikh based on charter flight capacities from Luxor to Sharm El, which did extremely well.

On the hotel side Flash Tour engaged in a new project together with Minastel for Management in which we opened a small 110 rooms Relax Resort outside of Safaga, the Coral Sun Beach .This is quite a unique property due to its direct position on the beach, and the natural beauty of the Gassous Bay. This is the only bay along the developed coast line that offers divers the ability to enter the sea directly

Flash Group

from the shore. This project has been developed in cooperation with Schauinslandfrom Germany who offers this hotel in exclusivity on the German market.

Flash International will double the room capacity in Makadi, by opening the new Magic Stella extension for the coming winter season with an additional 675 room, and at the same time they will have finalized the very extensive renovation project that started spring 2010 at the Sea Magic in Sharm El Sheikh .

Our International activities in Canada/USA and India have been developing nicely, and tourism will be back on track, as we are confident that the clientele from these countries will return as well to visit Egypt and its many treasures and beautiful sites.

The various “ niche market products” that have been launched by Flash Tour during the year 2010 have attracted some interest especially in USA, Japan, Scandinavia and Germany, which will be strongly promoted in this coming year. We wish todiversify the product portfolio so we can offer it to all our customers’ abroad, a holiday experience that will attract those guests who are looking to have a more active kind of holiday. We are promoting programs and activities linked to the Desert Lodge in the New Valley the “ El Tabouna Camp” a product of Desert in Style, as well as, the Nile+Bike programs launched for Upper Egypt and the Sail+Bike programs created for our Gullet “La Vela” for the destinations of Safaga and Marsa Alam.

Together we at Flash Tour can keep Egypt alive as one of the most interesting and historical destination one can visit, as Egypt is the perfect holiday for anyone and everyone.

British Airways’ new First cabin took off last February, following a £100 million

investment by the airline in its flagship brand.

Drawing on British Airways’ rich heritage, the new cabin offers an exclusive experience based on classic design and understated luxury, with features including a 60 per cent wider bed at the shoulders, a 15” in-flight entertainment screen, a personal wardrobe and Anya Hindmarch washbag with amenities by D.R. Harris & Co and REN.

On the other hand, the merger of British Airways and Iberia was officially completed, as International Airlines Group (IAG) officially became listed on the London Stock Exchange and Willie Walsh was installed as Chief Executive Officer. Both airlines will continue to operate under their existing brand names and the new company will carry over 62 million passengers a year to over 250 destinations. By combining British Airways’ extensive network to North America and Asia with Iberia’s to Latin America, customers will have considerably more choice of destinations and frequencies. The new company’s headquarters will be in London, with board meetings taking place in Madrid.

In addition to the merger, last year British Airways and Iberia received approval from the European Union and the US Department of Transportation to form a transatlantic joint business agreement with American Airlines, providing customers with greater access to a global network of more than 500 destinations, discounted fares and more convenient connections. The joint business also gives greater rewards to frequent flyers who will be able to ‘earn and burn’ miles on both BA, Iberia and American flights across the Atlantic.

The joint business will enable the airlines to launch new routes that would not have been economically viable for a single airline and a new route from Heathrow to San Diego which is due to launch on 1 June.

a series of measures that can be implemented to enhance sustainable performance across all aspects of the trade show.

As noted by Carina Bauer, IMEX Group CEO: «Our intention is to use this first year to benchmark our performance. The first year goal is to collect baseline information from our various venues and vendors and to use that data to build a solid sustainability strategy over the long-term.

«Among the initiatives taking place at IMEX America 2011 we will have specific objectives relating to water usage, energy, emissions, waste reduction and overall event sustainability. By working with MeetGreen® on reaching these objectives we hope that IMEX can continue to take a strong lead on sustainable practices and create a solid foundation for future years.»

The full sustainability plan covers the trade show venue, hotels, catering, print material, signage and carpeting, general service contractors and transportation. Some of the key measures at IMEX America will include Energy Star lighting plans;

IMEX America and MeetGreen launch sustainability planrecycling of copper, aluminium, brass and heavy metals including extension cords and power supply cards plus recycling and reuse of waste wood, metal, plastic, cardboard, drywall, carpet padding, concrete, asphalt and glass. Electronic products will be donated to The Blind Center of Nevada, whilst leftover food product will be donated to the Las Vegas Mission every day. Through the Sands Expo, IMEX will also work with 209 local vendors, which will help to keep transportation emissions low and support the local economy.

Bauer continued: «IMEX America is committed to educating the meeting, incentive travel and events industry about sustainability issues and addressing these in a proactive, measured way.

At IMEX America we will also have a Sustainability Center - powered by GMIC - where attendees will be able to pick up ‹green› tips and best practice, as well as meeting experts and attending drop-in workshops.

«Through our sustainability plan, our intention is to develop a long-term relationship with our exhibitors,

attendees, venues and vendors that will help build a successful show and increase our sustainability efforts for the future. We consider this a keystone in our strategy as a progressive organization at the heart of the global meetings industry.»

The IMEX Group already has a long-term partnership with the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), the premier global community solely dedicated to sustainability in the meetings and events industry.

Of the work that IMEX and GMIC cooperate on, one of the most important initiatives is the annual Green Meetings Future Leaders Forum. This event is designed to offer talented young students the chance to gain an unrivalled insight into how to build a successful career and to educate them on the green practices likely to shape their future careers and the industry as a whole. For more environmental information about IMEX America and its partners see:

Since April 15th, 1998 the building hosts the Park Hyatt Hamburg. Warm colours, natural woods and antique furniture combined with modern art and the latest communication technology in the bedrooms and function areas creates a feeling of “home away from home“.

Originally designed in 1912 by Franz Bach and Carl Bensel (Hamburg), the renovations of the brick house began in 1997. Architects of the “new“ Levantehaus are Sidell Gibson, Schafer & Partner (Berlin), Ockelmann and Rottgardt & Partner (Hamburg) who built an arcade on the ground and first floor with a variety of restaurants and shops.

Hirsch, Bedner & Associates, Atlanta (USA) are the interior designers of the hotel. Design and style of the hotel portray the designers’ striving to create a home away from home for the guests.

The Park Hyatt Hamburg is located on the Monckebergstraße in the historic Levantehaus – a former office building

dating back to 1912. In more recent times the building was occupied by Philips and before that a “Kontorhaus”, a warehouse mostly used by companies trading with South Asia – Levante - meaning the „Land of the rising sun“.

Park Hyatt Hamburg: AN EXTRAORDINARY PLACE

The hotel’s elegant combines the old with the new, featuring both antique and contemporary furnishing and fittings.

Among the art pieces in the hotel are original pictures of Matthias Meyer, Sylvia Gobel, Puck Steinbrecher, Nadjy Holland and Adi Holzer. Original photographic art including “Das Spargelbundel“ by Ulrich Tielmann and “Zeitungs-Bucher“ by Gerhard Winkler can be found in the corridors of the hotel, the Club Lounge as well as the Presidential Suite. Signed graphics of international artists decorate suites and apartments. A special edition of “graphic” consisting of four original flower- photos of the US photographer Ohringer can be found in the rooms along with two of the former Hamburg painters Horst Jansen with “Birkenwald” and “Lemmy’s Blume”.

The room design resembles the one of Asian Hyatt hotels, especially the ones in Japan: elegant and simplistic. The bathrooms are at least 11sqm featuring a wet` area with sand stone walls, a bath and a separate shower which consists of a rain shower as well as a handheld shower. Instead of the regular sink, a large white bowl on a counter of black granite reminds of “Grandma’s-times“.

The italian company “Interna“ built the room furnishings, the Park Lounge and Apples restaurant with materials of “Jack Lenor Larsen“, New York.

The 1000sqm fitness area “Club Olympus“ of the Park Hyatt Hamburg is the design highlight of the hotel. Old tiles from the original building have been integrated in the pool, steambath and the sauna. The spacious arrangements and mainly dark green colours and warm high-grade timber of the beauty centre, the aerobic and fitness- studio help create a relaxing atmosphere.

Experts says that Tourism is the way out from the recent economic crisis

in Egypt. Many of them stressed on that the Egyptian tourism sector needs at least 6 months to recuperate from its recent crisis, providing it should rely on both the domestic and Arab tourism during this period.

Mr. Hamdy El-Shamy, former deputy minister in the Ministry of tourism, said that the efforts of Egyptian tourism to come back to the competitive markets should start by promoting domestic tourism. He pointed out that Spain for example has about 4 million domestic tourists every year comparing to Egypt which the number of domestic tourists does not exceed few hundreds.

From his side, the tourist expert Adel El-Sherbiny mentioned that the recent losses of the Egyptian tourism reached about US$825 million only for February and this is a strong blow as it did not suffer such loss before even during other crisis. Mr. El-Sherbiny stressed that promotion campaigns are the main player now in order to lift up tourism sector in Egypt and this requires that the Egyptian Tourist Authority has to focus on launching a big promotional and advertising campaign directed to the international and Arab markets before the summer season in order to make up for its recent losses.

Another tourist expert, Mr. Kamel Mansour, mentioned that the total income of the Egyptian tourism for the year 2010 was about LE 78 billion while it suffered a US$ 7 billion loss in the first half of this year. He assured that during the next few months, the Arab tourism will be the rescuer of the Egyptian tourism from its recent crisis.

It worth mentioning that the Egyptian tourism crisis contributed to the increase of tourist flow in some competitive countries such as Dubai (30% increase compared to same period last year) and Syria which witnessed an increase in hotels occupancy.

Grand Hyatt Berlin is home to three restaurants. In Vox Restaurant, guests dine in a warm ambience with red stucco walls and dark oak wood parquet flooring. Furthermore, the terrace invites guests to indulge in a business lunch or dinner served under the linden trees lining the old Potsdamer Street.

Tizian Restaurant serves international and local classics on a menu that offers dishes that range from rib eye steaks to hamburgers and escalopes.

Restaurant mesa, which opened in May 2008, is a work of art by New York-based architect Tony Chi. Guests entering mesa are faced with a spectacular wine cellar that reaches to the ceiling, while the leather-coated tables and chairs enhance the restaurant’s Spanish feel and create a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

“Guests feel as if they are in a private residence instead of a soulless hotel conference room taking part in a compulsory exercise,” says Fred Hürst, general manager of the hotel and area vice president of Hyatt Hotels Corporation. “You want guests to take a positive experience home with them, which we can accomplish with our composition of the right materials, colours, light and art,” he adds.

a home-like ambience, sophisticated design, premium materials and a collection of contemporary art that make Grand Hyatt Berlin a grand hotel with presence in the heart of Berlin at Potsdamer Platz.

In the hotel’s 326 guestrooms and 16 suites, privacy and warmth is evoked by details and design, with each room having its own character. A remote control allows guests to completely darken the room and all rooms are equipped with Bang & Olufsen flat–screen TVs that also offer MP3 access.

At Grand Hyatt Berlin, the marble bathrooms feature a shower, a toilet, a generous bathtub with overflow, a flat-screen TV and a wardrobe, all combined in a spacious area. Sliding doors of cherry wood can be opened on both sides to form a space between the sleeping and bathing areas that allows daylight to shine through both.

Grand Hyatt Berlin offers guests more personalised service and additional amenities in the Grand Club on the seventh floor, which creates a retreat with a home-like atmosphere.

Grand Club guests enjoy daily complimentary continental breakfast with à la minute scrambled eggs; coffee and home-made cakes during the afternoon; and a small buffet of finger food in the evenings, along with alcoholic beverages; as well as concierge services and a separate meeting room.
