The main sight-seeing attractions in Sydney, that are known worldwide, are the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, the Darling Harbour bay, the oldest district in town The Rocks, and the Chinese district Chinatown. The most famous beaches are Manly and Bondi, visited by surfers and tourists from all over the world. Don’t forget

Kings Cross is one of the most prestigious areas in Sydney, with lots of options when it comes to hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants of all kinds. The city mixes the modern and the old architecture, preserving the British style.

TRANSPORT

It’s very easy to walk around Sydney. The city offers several transportation options, such as buses, train, monorail, light rail, city rail, ferry and taxi or cars, which are not the best option since they’re very expensive. The public transportation means are the best option to visit the city in a fast and safe way.

The ideal is to buy daily tickets that you can use in most part of the public transportation system. The best option is to get the DayTripper, which costs about $17 and you can use in buses, trains and ferries.

Trains are a great option for those who are staying far from the downtown area of the city, but they are much slower.

The city of Sydney has a warm and temperate weather. Winter is not too cold, with a moderate temperature between 13° C and 18° C, and, during the summer, it’s not too hot, with an average between 18° C and 26° C. There are sunny days during the whole year. The level of rain in Sydney is higher between March and June.

The best time to visit Sydney is during the summer or the spring. There are major events going on during the summer, such as Mardi Gras and Sydney Festival, which attract lots of international visitors.

During the winter, the airplane tickets and hotel accommodations area more economical for those travelers who intend to spend less money.

It’s ideal for tourists that intend to see the main attractions of the city with a view from upwards, such as the Darling Harbour, among others.

WHERE TO STAY

The ideal is to stay downtown or in one of the suburbs located near downtown Sydney. There are several hostels, hotels and apart-hotels, known as self-contained apartments, which you can rent for a day or a week. Another good option is to stay in Manly, one of the beaches in Australia, which is 17 km from downtown Sydney. This is a great option, since you can go to Sydney by the sea on a ferryboat. The ride is worth it.

For those who don’t want to spend a lot of money with accommodations, you can stay at hostels, such as the Original BackPackers or the Beach Road Hotel, which offer good location and a price of up to $80 the daily stay.

DINING OUT

The city offers good gastronomic options. Sydney has restaurant options from all nationalities, but of course, the visitors are suggested to try the kangaroo meat and the tasting with Vegemite (which is a typical and extremely salty Australian dip), to enjoy together with a delicious fresh shellfish or an ethnic cuisine.

Lots of restaurants offer daily dishes with seafood. The most common types of seafood offered in Sydney’s restaurants include salmon, tuna, shrimp, abalone, lobster, oysters and mussels. Most seafood dish restaurants are located on the coast in areas such as Manly, Darling Harbour, and Bondi Beach. One of the best malls in Sydney is the WestField in Bondi, but for those who want to find lower prices and good-quality clothes, the ideal is to visitDFO, a small outlet in the city.

STREET MARKETSWhen we think about shopping in the streets of the city of Sidney, the first think we think about is the Paddington market, located near the Oxford Street, with over 200 stands that offer craftworks and spices. The Paddington markets are open from 10 a.m. every Saturday with extended hours during the summer. They follow the philosophy that “come rain or shine” they’ll have their stands open.

Other two options are The Rocks Farmers’ Market (which is open to the public at Jack Mundey Place, in the corner of the streets Argyle andGeorge, at Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), in which the main products for sale are fruits and vegetables, cheeses, eggs, milk, meat, among other products; and The Rocks Weekend Market, which is a fair that takes place only during the weekends, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., between the streets Playfair and George. This market gives priority to selling decoration pieces, pottery, furniture, clothing from local stylists, beauty products and souvenirs.

Darling Harbour, Chinatown and the historic district of The Rocks are also filled with souvenir and craftwork shops.

CURRENCYThe local currency used in Sydney is the Australian dollar (AUD). Credit Cards from American Express, Bankcard, Diners Club, MasterCard, Visa and JCB are accepted in Australia. You’re allowed to use your magnetic card in the banks in the whole country as long as it is linked to the international banking system.
