The College Application ProcessWe know choosing the right school for you is a big decision. As you look at each college on your list, you have a lot to consider—the culture of the campus and the location, the knowledge and skills you’ll gain during your time in college, the numbers that represent the university, and the application process itself. As you navigate the process, make sure you ask yourself the following questions:

Knowledge is more than what you learn from books or in a classroom. As you consider your college choices, make sure to think about the unique opportunities you will have to expand your knowledge base—in class, on campus, in the lab, through an organization, with friends or professors, and around the globe.

A Northeastern education is built on the transformative power of study integrated with experience. By integrating rigorous academics and classroom work with real-world experiences such as professional work, research, service projects, and global opportunities, you are always applying your knowledge. You take action by thinking critically, collaborating, problem solving, and adapting to the unknown. You can gain up to 18 months of real-world experience through co-op and our other opportunities.

And by sharing these formative experiences with classmates, you’ll create deeper friendships—relationships that last a lifetime.

CHART YOUR OWN NORTHEASTERN PATHA Northeastern education is student-focused. With the support of a team of advisers, you choose your path—a four- or five-year program, the number of co-ops and study abroad terms you’d like to complete, and how to best maximize your time here. Time-to-degree varies—and because you only pay for the credits you earn, your tuition costs the same no matter what option you choose.

Guidance and SupportWe know that students learn best when they are challenged and supported. That’s why our academic program is rigorous, guided, and flexible. We provide a challenging and supportive academic environment enhanced and deepened by discussions and customizable experiences inside and outside the classroom, on campus in Boston, and in cities around the globe.

NUterm Freshmen take advantage of their extra-long (4 months) summer break to participate in NUterm. By choosing from a set of exciting and unique course offerings during the May/June summer short-term, you can build more flexibility into your educational path while taking advantage of opportunities created especially for you and your fellow rising sophomores.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Northeastern’s learning model encourages entrepreneurship, intellectual development, and personal growth. As you create your unique Northeastern path, you will have opportunities to work, travel, inspire, and innovate in a multitude of ways.

There are four varieties of experiential learning opportunities, and each is uniquely integrated with your classroom experience:

CO-OP + GLOBAL + SERVICE + RESEARCH

RigorousACADEMICS +

ImmersiveEXPERIENCES = EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

17

Page 20: Travel Brochure Domestic 2014

18

VS.CO-OP> 6 months full time > usually paid

INTERNSHIP> 10-12 hours/week > usually unpaid

While an internship gives an initial taste of a job, the fully immersive co-op experience allows students to take on true responsibility and make a real impact on a company or organization. The integrated nature of co-op enhances both academic growth and professional skill development.

SERVICEParticipate in community service in Boston or abroad, complete a service-based co-op, or take one of our service-learning classes that embed a service project into the curriculum.

CO-OPCooperative education (known as “co-op”) is our signature experiential learning program. Starting as early as your sophomore year, you’ll integrate classroom study with up to three six-month periods of full-time employment related to your major of interest. Through real-world experiences, you will deepen your knowledge and enhance your classroom learning.

Students applying as freshmen for the Fall 2015 semester may receive one of five decisions: admission for fall, admission to The N.U.in Program*, placement on the waitlist, deferral, or denial.* Each year, Northeastern enrolls a cohort of first-year students through The N.U.in Program.

These students participate in a Northeastern-sponsored study abroad program during the fall semester and matriculate to campus in Boston in the spring semester.
