the recycling loop by selling Agromin products.

If you run a business or own a multi-family complex, you know the importance of mak-ing a good fi rst impression. If your property

needs a fresh coat of paint, or your landscaping requires an extreme makeover, chances are you will lose potential customers or tenants.

Agromin Premium Soil Products can help – with your landscaping needs, that is.

You know all those grass clippings, tree branches and leaves that you place in your green waste container at home and, perhaps, at your business? Well, they go to good use. For the past 15 years, our trucks have transported them to Agromin, which uses cutting-edge technology to convert the green waste materials into organic mulches, compost, wood chips and other products that naturally fertilize plants and trees.

Time and effort has fi nally paid off, and bagged products, under Agromin’s PowerMix la-bel, are now available locally. Agromin has devel-oped and manufactured more than 240 premium soil products, now sold at 41 retail locations in Ventura County and throughout Southern Califor-nia. In Camarillo, Agromin products are available at B&B Do It Center, 698 Mobile Ave. 388-1067; Green Meadow Nursery, 10825 Santa Rosa Rd. 482-2822; and U Rent, 92 N. Dawson Dr. 484-7961; and in Somis at AG Rx, 3250 Somis Rd., 386-2674.

All have stepped up to the plate to do their part by selling locally manufactured and environ-mentally friendly soil products– from your yard waste barrels to their shelves. PLEASE TRY IT – you will be forever pleased by the results.

These products help reduce the use of non-or-ganic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides – mak-ing our air and water cleaner. They also save valuable space in landfi lls, thus completing the green waste recycling loop.

Unicycling Fills Key Gap in Camarillo

The support and participation of Camarillo’s business community is vital to ensure that the city continues to divert more

than 50 percent of its waste stream from the landfi ll. Nearly all local businesses participate in some type of recycling program. Some businesses that generate a large amount of waste and recyclables participate in a traditional source-sep-arated recycling program, where-by a recycling bin is provided in addition to a trash container. This approach is straightfor-ward, but is not cost effective for business customers that generate smaller amounts of waste.

To make recycling more cost effective for these cus-tomers, E.J. Harrison & Sons developed an innovative recycling program called “Unicycling.”

UnicyclingUnicycling is a system designed for smaller

waste generators that uses a single bin for both trash and recycling. The messy trash (lunchroom and restroom trash, for instance) is bagged in plas-tic bags and placed in the same bin as loose recy-clables. Gold Coast Recycling processes all loads from the Unicycling program and receives a fee to remove the bagged trash, then sorts the remaining recyclables to recover as many items as they can.

Camarillo has many smaller waste generators currently participating in the Unicycling program. The program is ideal for Camarillo in that it lim-its the number of trucks required to pick up trash and recyclables and also limits the number of refuse bins placed throughout the city, reducing so-called “container pollution.”

Multi-family ReycyclingResidents of Multi-Family Unit (MFU) com-

plexes like apartments and condos must have the same access to recycling as their neighbors resid-ing in single-family homes. In Camarillo, all MFU complexes have recycling bins or barrels placed at every location where there is a trash bin to make recycling easier for residents. In the past, some

complexes had the recycle bin “hidden” in the least used trash enclosure, making it more

diffi cult for residents to recycle. This new easy-access policy has increased the amount recycled by MFU resi-dents.

Rolloff ContainersGold Coast Recycling and EJ Har-

rison & Sons offers a service which recycles construction & demolition loads

as well as mixed roll-off loads for a small pro-cessing fee. Harrison also offers a reduced rate for clean yard waste loads as well as all dirt and all concrete loads. These highly successful programs signifi cantly increase what is recycled and reduces the amount

of material that goes to the landfi ll. For more information and roll off rates, call 647-1414.

Buy Recycled PaperSeparating out recyclables from trash is

only part of recycling. Unless we buy recycled paper, there

will be no markets for the paper that is collected. The more recycled paper that is purchased, the less expensive it becomes. Make sure your offi ce uses recycled paper.

Recycled paper can be requested through most paper distributors and used for all your paper needs — annual reports, stationery, busi-ness cards, advertising and direct mailings.

Pay Bills On LineYou can now pay your bills on

line with a credit card or e-check. It’s easy. Go to www.ejharrison.com and check out your payment options.
