Transforming electricity
in business.
Our Facilities
In 1963, C.J. Refugio Guzmán Jiménez, received a Mechanical-Electrician degree at the Technological Institute of
Higher Studies of Monterrey, at the same time decided to open a place in the electrical industry and founded IMEM
as a small family business. His vision was to fill what he considered a vacuum in the local electricity industry, by
manufacturing ferroresonant saturated-core voltage regulators, which were once indispensable for televisions,
refrigerators, and voltage devices until the year of 1968.
Man with great vision decided to venture into the manufacture of transformers, starting with pole-type transformers,
single-phase and three-phase in medium voltage.
The first transformers of the company became the hallmark of IMEM. Always thinking about the future, Mr. Guzmán
made it his personal mission to identify trends in the electrical industry, and to stay at the forefront of these trends
by introducing innovative products to the market that immediately satisfy the demands of customers.
On October 2, 1970, the General Directorate of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce granted the SIC-DGE-5250
authorization for the manufacture, sale and use in the Mexican Republic of IMEM brand distribution transformers of
national manufacture up to 3000 KVA, 1 and 3 phases, 50/60 HZ. 23000 V.AT, 440 / 253.9 V.BT, oil cooled, indoor
and outdoor service.
Under the direction of Ing. Guzmán, during the following 5 years, IMEM expanded its manufacturing to distribution
transformers for agricultural use in pumping equipment and in the first industries of the Laja-Bajío region.
In 1975 the railway was used to send the transformers to the whole Mexican Republic. In the same year,
transformers were manufactured in what is now Miguel Hidalgo street in the city of Celaya, Guanajuato.
During the next 25 years IMEM continued consolidating as one of the main brands in the country.
In November 1999, the management of LP-Gas and Electrical Installations of the energy secretary authorized IMEM
to manufacture transformers for compliance with NOM-002-SEDE-1999 "Safety and energy efficiency requirements
for distribution transformers".
