IntroductionThe CPCS scheme was launched in 2003 and is the industry’s largest scheme for Plant Operators, with over 200,000 cards issued.

SSG are pleased to be able to provide training, NVQ assessments and testing to enable operators to obtain either their Red Trained Operator Card or Blue Competence Card.

REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING AND MAINTAINING A CPCS CARD

1) Moving Directly to a Blue Competence CardAn operator will be required to:

• HavearelevantS/NVQinthecategoryofplantrequired

• HavepassedtheConstructionSkillsHealthandSafetytestinthelast 2 years

• PasstheCPCStechnicaltest.AtailoredtrainingprogrammeundertheCPCS syllabus would be available if required.

A Blue Competence Card is valid for five years.

2) Obtaining a Red Trained Operator Card – ‘Stepping Stone’ to a Blue CardAn operator will be required to:


• Carryoutanytrainingnecessarytobringthemuptothestandardrequired to pass the CPCS technical test

• PasstheCPCStechnicaltest

A Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years.

3) Moving from a Red Trained Operator Card to a Blue Competence CardAn operator will be required to:

4) Renewing a Blue Competence Card Every 5 years an operator will be required to:

General InformationSSG are able to provide a site and equipment for training purposes alternatively training can be conducted on the Client’s site providing it meets the required training specification. All CPCS testing (except for renewals) must be done at a CPCS test centre. SSG will make all the necessary arrangements for these tests to take place.
