wares and taste delicious local produce. We’ll also take you behind the scenes to see sustainability in action and new innovations like how we’re turning our
food waste into garden fertiliser.
take a guided tour
Proper & SonProper & Son’s food philosophy is to use what’s
in-season and locally found to create their menu. Owner Eugene buys a lot of his fresh produce
from the Market and supports local suppliers which means less food miles and support of Victorian
farmers and businesses.
Store 6 Store 6 has joined the responsible cafes movement
and offers a discount on coffee for anyone that brings in their reusable cup. Owner Sandy is also
doing an incredible job of waste streaming or sorting her waste into the right bins so that all her food
waste can be recycled into garden fertiliser.
Hagen’s Organic ButcherHagen’s source their meat from free-range
and organic producers and hand-make all of their small goods. Free range means a higher standard of animal welfare, which in the case of pigs, means they are born and raised with free access to the outdoors.
Happy animals equals better tasting meat.
T.O.M.S The Organic Meat Specialist
Owner Tom Niall says “I think the beauty about organics is that it looks after the animal, it looks
after us, and it looks after the environment.” T.O.M.S only stocks organic meat and the benefits of this are great: organic farming has less impact on the environment, organic produce contains
no synthetic pesticides, organically raised animals are not given antibiotics, growth hormones or fed animal byproducts, organic meat is richer in some
nutrients and GMO free.
The Soap ShopAt The Soap Shop, customers can bring in their
own plastic bottles to fill up with liquid soap, shampoo and dishwashing detergent. Owner Grace is doing her bit to reduce plastic bottle waste and
encouraging people to reuse and refill.
Theo the Label Theo the Label produces sweatshop-free clothing
staples for men and women who value the skill and workmanship involved in garment production.
Locally designed in Melbourne, their styles promote quality and longevity over fast fashion cycles.
SO:ME Space pop-ups During September, our pop-ups feature brands
that have a focus on sustainability. Think Fair Trade footwear, women’s fashion made from natural fibres, reusable shopping bags and a menswear label that
donates profits to humanitarian charities.
Atypic ChocolateThe emphasis at Atypic Chocolate is on organic ingredients. Organic or direct trade cacao beans
are sourced from small farms in the Solomon Islands, Haiti, Brazil and Madagascar which means
chocolatier Charles knows the story of your chocolate from bean-to-bar.

Hemp ShopHemp is a very enviro-friendly crop - growing it
requires less water, less resources and less pesticides than most other crops. It is very versatile and makes lots of different products. Ecowarrior Robert sells all sorts of hemp products including clothing, skincare,
hemp oil and hemp protein.
Frankie’s StoryKid’s clothing made with natural and organic fabrics
means that these garments are unique, but also made with a conscience. Owner Hadassah only
stocks labels that are ethically or environmentally sourced, including Mini Rodini, Popupshop Kids,
Wolf and Rita, Dougal, and Studio Kin.
Merchants of ChangeThe Merchants of Change philosophy is comprised of three simple yet powerful words: People, Planet, Purpose. Owners Emma and Sia are two passionate
women providing an avenue for conscious purchasing and only stock brands who are giving back to their communities and the environment.
The Pet GrocerChoices about your pet’s diet can have
implications for its health, your wallet and the planet. Choose a more sustainable approach by feeding
your animals food that contains no nasties. Janine from The Pet Grocer has also developed a fully
compostable packaging for her products.
Australian Natural Soap CompanyA sustainable approach to life has led
Melburnian Emma Cook to establish her very own soap empire using only the finest natural plant and
essential oils. Their range of products are colour and artificial fragrance free, cruelty-free, vegan, palm oil
free and locally made.
South Melbourne Market OrganicsA dynamic, organic food store with seasonal, certified organic fruit and veg and groceries.
Organic produce is grown, prepared and processed without the use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides or chemicals. Organic produce is as natural as it can be, has more nutrients, tastes better and is
better for the environment.
Georgie’s HarvestSeasonality and an extraordinary passion for local food is what Georgie does best. Buying
local and in season food supports local farmers and reduces your food miles.
Field, Barns & Co This wholesome Market larder sells everything for
the home cook’s pantry. Michael selects his products carefully with ethical and local sourcing of local ingredients an important part of his philosophy.
