La Jota

HISTORY

• Jota is a Spanish folk dance native to Aragon, in the North of Spain, dating back to the 18th century and since then is their typical dance.

• The word “jota” means “jump”.• The jota is sung and danced with castañuelas.

JOTA

• MUSIC:The music of the jota is very energetic.Its instruments are: guitars, bandurrias (which is like a mandolin), lutes, a dulzaina, (similar to an oboe) and drums.

• DANCE:It’s danced in pairs . Jota songs can be about a wide variety of different subjects, from religious themes, patriotic feelings to relationships .

• COSTUME:A white shirt,a black waistcoat, and white shoes with black bows, girls wear a long black skirt and boys wear black trousers.

and its region , but it is sung and danced also across the Andalusian region.
