Tradition of Colours

India, a Country of 1.25 billion people, roughly 20% of the world population has always been remembered fondly as the country of traditional colours.

Its colourful houses, streets, culture & and stories are a large part of the consciousness or believes. Colors of India, be deep orange marigold flowers that bejewel in every celebration or the deep red Saree that deck up the bride on her wedding day or Colorful turbans of in Rajasthan, or Yellow Colorful Tika Powders on the forehead of priests. Colours are spread allover to position India as a country of colours. White is the absence of color, and is the only color which widows wear. Black in India has connotations with lack of desirability, evil, negativity, and inertia.

Royalty, in the West and in the Christian culture, is represented by a deep, mystical shade of purple, while in India, it is the deep hues of red and ochre that symbolize wealth and grandeur.

India has been the biggest users of dyes & eventual exporter of natural colours & dyes. Dyers from India were supreme in dyeing cotton as dyers in China specialized in dyeing silk. Natural dyes were one of major trade throughout history of early & medieval India until the development of synthetic dyes. Though the early years of the twentieth century, natural dyes had been replaced in most applications. However, skin allergies, Pollution, health concerns, & industrialised uneven development has brought it back natural dyes as the alternate to its chemical or synthetic counterpart. Care for better health is the real reason for the rebounding of natural dyes.

From ‘Indus Valley’, now we brought these colours of traditions to you by launching world’s first professional bio/organic, Bio-Color natural hair colour. Indus Valley Professional Bio-Color is the excited blend of one of oldest human civilization and modern science. Follow and enjoy Traditions of Colours.

About Hair & Color Composition In Natural Hair

Hair, an important component of body image, has immense psychological importance for both men and women. Over the ages, people especially women have modified their appearance through changing their hair colour or style. Hair can be straight, wavy or curly, blonde, black, brown or red. Different types of hair have varying affinity for the different colouring and waving methods. Damaged hair also has a different affinity for hair products than normal healthy hair. The hair shaft is remarkably strong and resistant to the extremes of nature.

Components of hair:

Cuticle:

Cortex:

Medulla:

It is the outermost covering of hair shaft. It retains the moisture content of hair shaft and is responsible for maintaining shininess in the hair shafts.

This structure lies just beneath the cuticle and is responsible for giving colour to the hair shaft since here lies the hair colour pigment, melanin (eumelanin and phaeomelanin). Eumelanin imparts black and dark brown colour to the hair and Phaeomelanin imparts yellow, blonde, red, and light brown colour to the hair shaft.

This is the innermost structure of the hair shaft and is responsible for maintaining elasticity and strength of hair shaft. Modifying hair cosmetically requires cuticle, cortex, and medulla to get altered.

The Colour Of Natural Hair

The natural hair color is due to the presence of melanin (colored pigment) in the cortex, and their abundance, their nature, their size and distribution.

The respective proportions of these two melanin, dictated by our genetic code, determine the color of the hair.

In their absence, the hair is either white or gray, since the keratin our hair is colourless and semi-opaque, such as our nails.

How does herbal colour deposition occur in your natural hair?

People have been colouring their hair for thousands of years using plants and minerals. Some of these natural agents contain

pigments (e.g., henna, black walnut shells). Natural pigments generally work by coating the hair shaft with colour. They stick over

the outer layer of hair shaft in molecular form thereby making the porous hair - glossier and thicker - which in turn strengthens the

hair shaft.

In chemical hair colours, PPD (paraphenylenediamine) molecules get entered into porous hair shaft, and react with Hydrogen

Peroxide molecules. Subsequently, the resulting product is the polymerised form of the above molecules in swallow form, and it is

this molecule that is responsible for imparting colour to hair.

The colour wheel is a universal chart which shows how all colours are created from just three basic (primary) colours. Here's how it goes...

Color Theory

Important points

**Mixing all three primary colours equally creates BROWN**

1) All hair colour is comprised of different ratios of the primary colours (red, yellow, blue).

2) It clearly illustrates which colours neutralize which...find the primary colour you want to tone away and look directly across the chart to the opposite secondary colour.

Primary Colours (inner circle)

Secondary Colours (middle ring)

Tertiary Colours (outer ring)

: Red, Yellow, and Blue

: Orange, Green, and Purple Secondary colours are made by mixing 2 primary colours together:

Red + Yellow = Orange Red + Blue = Purple Blue + Yellow = Green

: Created by mixing primary and secondary colours together:

Yellow + Orange = Orange/Yellow Yellow + Green = Yellow/Green (lime green) Blue + Green = Blue/Green Blue + Purple = Blue/Violet Red + Purple = Red/Violet Red + Orange = Red/Orange

Types of Colour in Natural Hair

Hair colour is the pigmentation of hair follicles due to two types of melanin: eumelanin and pheomelanin. Generally, if more eumelanin is present, the colour of the hair is darker, if less eumelanin is present, the hair is lighter.

Eumelanin is a dark pigment that predominates in black and brunette hair. Pheomelanin is a lighter pigment found in red hair, and is concentrated in the redder areas of skin such as the lips. The red-yellow pheomelanin is believed to cause the warm, golden, or auburn tones found in some types of brown hair. The range of colours produced by melanin is limited to shades of yellow, brown, red, and black. Grey hairs contain only a few melanin granules, spread out through the hair.

*More melanin for Dark Brown or Black

*Less melanin for Blonde or Light Blonde

Goodness of natural hair coloring, allergies

Like other cosmetic adornment, hair coloring has been practiced since the ancient times & applying color to hair has played a significant role in every civilization.

Natural sources for the hair coloring ingredients are plants, animals and minerals without chemical processing. These were used for many other purposes like coloring faces, skin, and beauty products, for food and for textiles.

Natural hair coloring preparations give you a way to enhance your clients’ hair shininess, strength, and alteration of exiting hair shades using safe, non-toxic, eco- friendly herbs along with the benefits of no allergic reactions to the hair.

Herbs Functioning On Hair

Aiming to give your clients glossy, healthy and voluminous hair, you should go for herbal application on their hair. Herbs not only restore the damaged hair strands but also restore the acid alkaline balance of the scalp. They protect the hair strands by building a protective layer and locking the nutrients and moisture.

Further, herbs treat the dandruff and scalp infections more effectively than their corresponding chemical counterparts.

Herbs get deposited on the outer surface of hair shaft thereby strengthening the hair from their roots and also make them glossier and voluminous. This unique feature separates them from the chemical hair dyes which get entered into porous shafts and clogged the hair follicles with excess sebum.

Herbs like Rubia Cardifolia (Madder), Cassia Auriculata (Neutral Henna), Emblica Officinalis (Amla), Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi), Indigofera Tinctoria (Indigo), Trigonella Foenum-Graecum (Fenugreek)are excellent moisturizers with molecular structure almost similar to keratin, the prominent protein that makes up skin and hair.

Amla, the Indian Gooseberry, contains several anti-oxidants including vitamin C which is necessary for collagen production. Elevated collagen levels accelerate production and increase strength of new hair

growth.

Similarly, Rubia Cardifolia (Madder)which is an age old natural colorant that has been used to maintain hair colour. It can be combined with other natural colorants like henna to enhance red shades.

Cassia Auriculata (Neutral Henna) is an excellent conditioner which makes hair glossy and thick, with a healthy scalp. Cassias with high levels of anthraquinones and crysophanic acid are very

effective inhibitors of skin fungus, bacterial and microbial diseases. Also, these are genu ine ly effective in promoting healthy conditions of skin and hair.

Brahmi, Bacopa Monnieri, imp rove s t h e b l o od circulation to the scalp and cools down the scalp. It is highly effective against scalp dryness, dandruff and hair loss. Indigo, also known as Indigofera Tineforia, adds richness, shininess, and texture to hair besides imparting intense violet colour to hair.

Fenugreek, a vitamin rich herb, helps to improve circulation and stimulate hair growth. Chamomile brings lighter tones in hair and also helps in fixing split ends.

Henna leaves, be ing translucent in nature, contain red orange dyed molecules and stain the keratin, the structural protein of hair.

Greying & Colouring

Hair graying is a natural process which occurs with aging in humans. This change in hair color, from natural color to gray and then to white, is caused by the gradual decrease of pigmentation that occurs when melanin ceases to be produced in the hair root, for example, due to a loss of melanocytes, and, in consequence, new hairs have few or no pigments. Greying is understood as a loss of pigment in the shaft. Premature greying is a morbid condition that makes the young look older. This causes a great deal of concern to affected person, particularly women.

11

What's 'Premature' graying?

Hair goes gray when color-producing cells stop producing pigment. Naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide can also build up in the hair, bleaching the color.

Typically, people start going gray in their mid-30s to early-40s. Half of all people have a significant amount of grey hair by the time they turn 50. A person is considered to be prematurely gray if his or her hair turns grey by before age mid-20.

World population mostly hailing from northern Europe do not have the environment-friendly brown-black hair, possibly due to mutations in the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), a G-protein coupled receptor. The rate at which an individual turns gray depends on genetics, stress & use of chemicals on hair. Hydrogen peroxide in hair colour also contribute to the premature graying. Considering the important role played by hair in social communication, premature hair graying or canities has significant adverse effects on the appearance, self-esteem, and socio-cultural acceptance of the affected individual. It is often viewed as a sign of old age and loss of health and vigour.

Greying or pre mature graying: Bio colour is the safest solutions as it's made up with herbs of purest quality on planet & nothing else. 100% Certified Organic. 100% Certifi Bio. 100% Natural.

Formulation Tips

F Shampoo your client's hair, 24 hours in advance, before applying INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color. Also, ask your clients to not to have any hair oil, conditioner, hair spray, etc. before application.

F INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color does not contain any lightening chemicals. So, you can't use it to change from darker tone to a lighter tone. Blonde colour brings out yellow and light brown highlights. Walnut Blonde brings out gold and yellow highlights. Both add shine and body to grey hair.

F Since chemicals damage the hair, and make them more porous leading to unwanted colour variations, so, you can use INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color on those clients whose hair is previously treated with chemical hair dyes/colors. Doing so, Bio-color not only condition their hair but also makes them nearer to their natural color of hair.

F For your client who used INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color before & wanted to get her hair permed, perform the strand test first. Hair that has been treated with INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color, test the perming solution on a strand of hair treated with INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color.

F INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color also gives you an opportunity to perm your client's hair before using it. But you need to keep in mind that the perm may remove some of the colour and conditioning effect of the INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color. In this case, you need to reapply INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color after shampooing your client's hair. In this case also, don't forget to perform a strand test before.

F Further, you can use INDUS VALLEY Professional Bio-Color even before/after your client's tint or color their hair chemically. In this regard, following points should be kept in mind:— Chemical residues in your client's hair may react with Indus Valley Professional Bio-Color which results into unusual shades or brassy tones.— Chlorine build-up from swimming may also caues green cast to unusual shades.

15

Importance of Strand Test:

F It is important to carry out a strand test each time you color your clent's hair, as the condition of their hair may vary.

F It determines the length of time you leave the paste on, and the colour results.

F If the colour is not what you want, dampen the strand and simply reapply the mixture. Check after five minutes and if necessary, reapply and leave it to develop for up to another 5 or 10 or 15 minutes.

F Try the strand test again without applying heat if the resulting color comes out to be too red. You can add unRed drabber to the powder to tone down the red (redo the strand test).

F Similarly, if the resulting color comes out too brassy, then, you need to try the strand test again but without adding heat into it.

F Also, if the resultant colour is too blue or green. You can mix the powder with unBlue drabber to the powder to tone down blue/green tone.
