This Week at St. Mark’s Parish
Elders Appreciation Luncheon The CWG’s luncheon for elders was a big success and enjoyed by all. We were honoured to serve over 150 seniors in appreciation for all that they have contributed to our parish and our community over the years. Special thanks go out to the staff of Racine, Robert & Gauthier Beauchamp Funeral Home for catering the meal, and for presenting a rose to each lady present and a small gift to each gentleman; to talented musician Rick Crepin for performing some old-time favourites and classical music; to Monica Thibeault for the flower arrangements; to Connexions Resource Centre for the placemats and leaflets promoting awareness of elder abuse and how to counter it; and, of course, to our wonderful volunteers who helped to make this event another great success.

Raffle Tickets Message for those who have been selling raffle tickets to raise money for the repair of our bell tower: When you have your ticket stubs and the funds you collected ready to return, please give them directly to Rita Danis or, if it is more convenient for you, put them in the collection basket at Mass on the weekend. Make sure they are in an envelope addressed to Rita and include your name and the words, ‘Bell tower raffle tickets’. Thank you for your help in this important endeavour. Arabic Translation for the Syrian Refugee Sponsorship Committee Volunteers to help with translation for our new refugee family are asked to contact Carol Ann Bowers at 819-595-1094 or [email protected] or Zeina Sakaili, [email protected]. The family is expected to arrive in the very near future and a schedule of availability of the translators needs to be made up. Your help is very much appreciated. Join the Catholic Women’s Guild St. Mark’s CWG is made up of dedicated women who work together in many ways to support the ongoing welfare of the parish. We invite more women to join us and share the benefits of being part of this active, outgoing and giving group of ladies. Our contact information is on the back of the parish bulletin. Please give us a call to become a member or to receive any further information. Donate Your Used Stamps We can now do some good with the used postage stamps. There is a way to transform them into food: One Used Postage Stamp Feeds a Hungry Child for One Day. The stamps are collected from all over the national capital area, processed and sent to the Redemptorists Mission Stamp Burse in Windsor, Ontario. The Redemptorists then sell the stamps to a stamp company. The funds they receive are matched by the priests and forwarded to Canadian Food for Children, a registered charity in Mississauga, Ontario. These donations help the charity to send food and other items to developing countries around the world. St. Mark’s is now participating in this endeavour and we ask that you start collecting your used stamps. Just cut the parts of the envelopes with the stamps, even if a printed one, and deposit them in the marked boxes at the entrances to the church

Pastoral Care Do you know someone who cannot come to church but would like to receive communion? Call the parish office (819-684-6926) to let us know. A member of our Pastoral Care Team would be pleased to pay a friendly visit, and bring communion to the person in need. Also, Fr. John is always available for home and hospital visits. Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament Come out and have some fun at the Vieux Moulin Golf Course on Saturday, September 8 and at the same time help save our bell tower. Make your own foursome or we can place you. Best Ball format, so anyone can play. The cost is $60 for golf and dinner. Carts are available at the course for $15. There will be lots of prizes. For more information, or to sign up, call Ray Gillespie at 819-557-0688 or email him at [email protected].
