A Special Prayer for Stewardship:

Dear Heavenly Father, you know our every need, desire, and challenge: grant us the joy of generosity in sharing the gifts of your abundance, that we may be united in spirit and willing to serve, in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

October marks the month of our Stewardship efforts for the sake of the mission and ministry of Epiphany for the next year. It is vitally important, for the sake of our community, that we think prayerfully and act decisively to maintain our financial health.

Stewardship in the church must always recognize two important facts. First, the giving of our financial resources is a personal sign of our love and devotion for God and God’s work in our world. Our financial resources are a part of our lives just like our time, talent, and energy, and God asks that we make it a sign of our spiritual health.

Secondly, the church is an organization that has expenses like all others: personnel, supplies, resources, physical structures, and bills. That is, we have to keep the A/C running and pay the “light bill” like everybody else!

The difference between the church and every other organization is that these two facts are one and the same; they are inseparable. Giving our money is a sign of our faith, and our faith shows its fruits in tangible ways – Worship, Faith For-mation, Pastoral Care, Outreach, and (yes) even the light bill. Jesus said in the Gospel that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Epiphany is our treasure, and it holds claim to our hearts, as well. The prayer above asks that we be joyous in giving generously, and united in one spirit with a willingness to serve. We are bound together by God’s love, and we make our giving a sign of that love. Please consider carefully the words of this prayer as you consider your pledged giving to Epiphany. The prayer reminds us that we are all “in this” together: one Body, one Spirit, one Purpose. Now is the time to make this prayer a reality in our hearts, in our minds, and in our lives. Yours in Christ, Fr. Aaron+ Stewardship Season, 2017

Conversation about Refugees Update

Refugee resettlement is a form of ministry, and one that we, and many other churches and faith-based organizations, cherish. The work of Episcopal Migration Ministries is God’s work, and we show the face of God through the care and compassion in that work…We ask that refugees from all countries receive consideration to come to the U.S. and not to ban those who come from countries most in need of our assistance…

Our Book of Common Prayer asks for God to “look with compassion on the whole human family;” to “break down the walls that separate us and unite us in bonds of love.” …, we prayed for God our Father to look with compassion upon the widowed and orphans, utcasts and refugees, prisoners, and all who are in danger. We pray to love one another as God loves us. I echo that prayer now and ask that we may work together to build a more grace and compassion-filled world. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry

We had 31 people at our July 23rd gathering. They included members of Epiphany, Christ Church Albertville, and St. Williams Catholic churches. We had an active discussion and decided to keep meeting and learning.

We will get together next on October 18th. It will serve as our Wednesday evening program on that date. We will meet in Woodall Commons as before.

The Reverend Judy Quick, Deacon, will present information regarding Episcopal Migration Ministries and will entertain discussion.

For those that missed our first meeting, here’s your chance to become involved.

ST. FRANCIS’ DAY—BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

St. Francis of Assisi, 13th Century founder of the Franciscan religious order, was well-known for his love of all God’s crea-tures. Each year we celebrate his feast day by asking God’s blessing on our furry, scaly, or winged (etc.) friends who are gifts of God's grace and wonderful symbols of the variety of

God’s creation. Please bring your pet, a picture of your pet, or your stuffed toy pet and join us Sunday, October 1, at 4:00 p.m. on the front lawn of the

church.

ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY

November 5

Remembrances

On All Saints' Sunday, the names of the members who have died since last All Saint’s Day (November 6, 2016) will be included in the Eucharistic Prayer. If you have any additional names to add to this remembrance please let the office know by October 27.

FLOWER DEDICATIONS

The Altar Guild is taking dedications to remember those saints who have gone on before us.

A dedication form is on the counter in the church office or on the table in the rear of the Nave. Each dedication is $5.00. Make your check payable to Epiphany and note in the memo field that it is for All Saints Flowers.

STEWARDSHIP

2018 pledge cards have been mailed. The pledge cards may be returned by mail, placing in the offering plate, or by bringing to the church office.

On Sunday, November 5, we will ask God’s blessing on the pledge cards at the altar, giving thanks to God for the generous gifts we have already received. Your gifts are appreciated !!!
