PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
One of the things I am most proud of as President of a is our ability to have a tangible, positive impact on our community. We do this in a variety of ways, but perhaps none of them has been as broad in its reach as the MN Channel, which has allowed us to further the work of many organizations in our community. We created the MN Channel six years ago as a unique place to feature programming that is from or about Minnesota and its close neighbors. Since then, we have created hundreds of new programs, many produced in partnership with Minnesota's finest nonprofit and public service organizations.
Just in the past few months, the MN Channel has partnered with a wide variety of organizations to address topics including local environmental issues, ending hunger and helping individuals break out of cycles of poverty.
Right now, community organizations like a need all the support they can get. So if you can make a gift at this time, to a or any of our MN Channel partners, you will be helping our community get through these rough times. This is at the core of what a is all about: Being of service to others in the community who share our mission; who understand that TV isn't just a distraction; who understand that it can also help educate, inspire and build stronger communities.
We thank you for your support, which makes these partnerships possible. Every time you donate, you help strengthen the nonprofit community, and by extension, our community as a whole.
Focusing on The Things We Value
What does this mean for you, our members? It means
that when you support a, you are also supporting
the vital work of a wide variety of organizations in our
community. It means that your membership dollars
help inform the community at large about important
local issues.

this documentary is that rare thing – powerful television that can also work some good in the world." Producer, writer and director Larkin McPhee says, “By the year 2020, depression will be the second most common health problem in the world, and yet people are ashamed to talk about it. This award is a great honor, and truly bolsters the film’s mission to raise awareness of a debilitating, often deadly disease, that is, in fact, highly treatable."
Gerry Richman, Executive Vice President of National Productions at a says, "We are extremely gratified to receive this prestigious award. It's a terrific credit to Larkin McPhee and the talented staff who made this such a powerful and truly life-changing program."
The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs. This year, the Silver Telly Council has awarded graphic designer Jon Van Amber with their highest honor – a Silver Telly – for his work on a's new series, MAKE:. Frontline: Breaking the Bank
The bets were huge and risky – billions of dollars on the housing market.
The upside was undeniable – superbanks reaped billions of dollars,
dominated the landscape and gobbled up competitors. Then the bottom
dropped out. The massive losses on Wall Street nearly broke the banks.
In the worst crisis in decades, brand name banks are on the brink
of failure. Now as the federal government contemplates what could
become a massive nationalization of the industry, Frontline goes behind
closed doors to tell the inside story of how things went so wrong, so fast.

In The Footsteps of Marco Polo Follow the remarkable, two year, 25,000 mile attempt to retrace Marco Polo's legendary trek from Venice, Italy to China. This illuminating epic follows two friends from Queens, New York – one photographer and one visual artist and ex-Marine – as they complete the journey by land and by sea, a feat in which all others have fallen short. Equal parts travelogue, adventure story, history trek and buddy movie, In the Footsteps of Marco Polo finds these present day explorers surviving deadly skirmishes and capture in Afghanistan, crossing its forgotten ancient passageway to China (the First Westerners in a generation to do so), encountering the stinging sands of the Taklamakan and Gobi deserts in a Silk Road camel caravan, and living among cultures, including the expert horsemen of Mongolia. Along the way, they interweave their own feats with Marco Polo's account of his own travels and life. 2 Tuesday, June 30, 9pm www.thirteen.org/marcopolo

ummer is here! One of the best ways to enjoy warm and sunny days is with your family, good friends, and of course, good barbeque. Steven Raichlen, award-winning author, journalist, cooking teacher, and host of a LIFE's
Barbecue University shares with us a great recipe for Dry-Rub Ribs. Enjoy!
Memphis Dry Rub Ribs Serves 4
* 2 racks baby back ribs (4 to 5 pounds) * 2 cups hickory chips or chunks,
soaked in cold water
For the mop sauce: (optional)* 2 cups distilled white vinegar* 1/2 cup water* 1/2 cup Dijon mustard* 1 tablespoon salt
For the rub:* 2 tablespoons paprika* 1 tablespoon black pepper* 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar* 1-1/2 teaspoons salt* 1-1/2 teaspoons celery salt* 1 teaspoon garlic powder* 1 teaspoon dry mustard* 1 teaspoon cumin
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1. Wash the ribs and blot dry. Remove the thin papery skin on the back of each rack of ribs. (Pull it off in a sheet with your fingers, using a corner of a dish towel to gain a secure grip.)
2. Combine the ingredients for the rub in bowl and mix. Rub 2/3 of this mixture on the ribs on both sides. Transfer the ribs to a roasting pan and let marinate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
3. Set up the grill for indirect grilling and preheat to medium (about 350 degrees). Place a drip pan in the center. If using a gas grill, place all the chips in the smoker box or smoker pouch and preheat the grill to high. When smoke appears, lower the heat to medium. If using a charcoal grill, toss the wood chips on the coals.
4. Place the ribs on the grill over the drip pan and cover the grill. Cook the ribs until cooked, 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours. Start basting with mop sauce after 30 minutes, basting every 20 minutes. If using a
charcoal grill, replenish the coals after 1 hour. The ribs are done when the meat is very tender and it has shrunk back from the ends of the bones.
5. Transfer the ribs to a cutting board or platter. Mop one final time with mop sauce and sprinkle with the remaining rub. Serve with your favorite barbecue sauce on the side.
