TOWNSVILLEBlock 1
Monday 4 January to Friday 25 June 2021
Skills and Transition started in Townsville in 2016. The program was uniquely designed with the core value of providing customers skill development within the community to reach their goals. Since 2016, Skills and Transition has grown throughout North Queensland with the program now available in Mount Isa and Cairns.
We are proud of the growth of the program and the variety in courses that are now available within the community. All participants receive a certificate of attendance at the end of their course.
2021 is your year! Let Skills and Transition help you reach your goals!
Tracy RauManager Skills and Transition
Skills and Transition ProgramThe focus of Cootharinga North Queensland’s Skills and Transition program is to assist customers in developing skills to live independently and to prepare them for transition from school to employment, further study, volunteering or connecting with community groups.
Our wide range of courses are delivered by our trained support workers or in partnership with other organisations. We deliver these programs either in our training room or in the community. All courses are delivered in a group based learning environment with a supportive staff to customer ratio. Our programs have been designed to best support the customer’s development and can be custom-designed to suit each individual’s needs and learning styles.
How do we do this?
• We prepare customers for the day’s schedule and what to expect• We provide opportunities and guidance for customers to challenge themselves and grow• We take a functional approach for our course content• We breakdown tasks into small steps using a task analysis approach• We use examples and scenarios that are relevant to daily life• We revise and continue to practice the weekly skills that you learn• We model appropriate social and emotional behaviour• We collaborate with family, support networks and the community• We provide customers with productive feedback on their progress within the course and if they are on track to meeting their goals• We provide customers with a Skills and Transition certificate upon completion of the course
The Skills and Transition program and our trained support workers are here to assist you, our customers, to develop skills, explore interests and reach your goals all while having fun!
At Cootharinga North Queensland, we have been following the advice of State and Federal Governments and have implemented COVID-19 safe plans throughout the organisation.
