Voluntown Economic Development Commission

The Voluntown Economic Development Commission was created by ordinance in November 1998 under the provisions of Section 7-136 of the Connecticut General Statutes. The mission of the Commission is: ATo foster economic development in Voluntown and increase the tax base by retaining existing businesses and helping them grow, encouraging indigenous business start up, and recruiting light industry.@ There are eight members in total, five regular members and three alternates, appointed by the Board of Selectmen. One regular member serves five years, one serves four years, one serves three years, and two serve two years. Alternate members serve in the absence, inability, or disability of regular members. None are compensated. The Chairperson of the Commission is elected by a majority vote of its members. The Commission meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room. The public is invited to attend.
