Welcome to the Spring term of our second year!
Welcome
1
Tower Hamlets Recovery College continues to go from strength to strength. Building on previous successes, we continue to work with a fantastic selection of people, services and projects throughout the whole borough.
We support recovery and wellbeing through education and our courses are available for anyone and everyone living and working in Tower Hamlets.
We had a successful launch of our library last term. It is now open for drop-ins on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please feel free to come in and browse through our books, or just have a cup of tea and use the computers.
The college is run by the East London Foundation Trust, working in partnership with charities from the Inspire consortium and other local organisations. Courses happen in a variety of different venues across the borough, and we want to work with as many people as possible, so that we can learn from one another’s knowledge and experience.
This term we have some great new courses, including ‘Islam and Mental Health’, and a workshop
on ’Jinns’. Both of these courses look at various aspects of the relationship between spiritual beliefs and mental health.
We are still growing, and are always open to new ideas. We will continue to expand the range of courses we run in response to feedback from students and the wider community.
If you have any ideas for new courses, or would like to get involved then please drop by, give us a ring, send us an email, or contact us through social media.
We look forward to seeing you all soon.

About the College
2
What is recovery?‘The task is not to become normal. The task is to take up your journey of recovery and to become who you are called to be’
‘Recovery is a process, a way of life, an attitude, and way of approaching the day’s challenges. It is not a perfectly linear process. At times our course is erratic and we falter, slide back and regroup again’ – Patricia E. Deegan
What is co-production?Co-production is an equal relationship between people who use services and the people responsible for services. They work together from design to delivery, sharing strategic decision making about policies as well as the best way to deliver services - National Co-production Advisory Group
Who is the college for?You are welcome to enrol as a student in one of our courses if:
• you have experience of using mental health services in Tower Hamlets
• you work in health and wellbeing services in Tower Hamlets
• you know or care for someone with mental health challenges in Tower Hamlets
• you live or work in Tower Hamlets and want to find out more about mental health, recovery and wellbeing
Who are courses taught by?What is special about us is that all of our courses are designed and delivered by people who have lived experience of mental health challenges, working together with people who work in mental health services. We call this co-production. Co-production is at the heart of everything we do. It makes sure that courses are recovery-focused, based on
real experiences and support students to look for their own answers.
Where do courses take place? Our courses are delivered from a wide range of locations across the borough to reach as many people as possible. Popular courses are repeated each term in different locations so that nobody misses out. Our new home at 86 Old Montague Street, London E1 5NN with a library and study area is open for our students to use.
What are the courses about?Courses cover a range of different areas that may support recovery. They include tools, strategies and approaches that help us to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our experiences. The subject areas covered include education about mental and physical health, helpful tips on practical life skills, and how to get more involved in study and work opportunities.
