¡  Service  New  Brunswick  has  been  at  the  forefront  in  the  provision  of  online  services  but  is  falling  behind

¡  Users  have  access  to  a  sophisticated  but  somewhat  cumbersome  identity  and  access  management  system

¡  Services  hampered  by  the  lack  of  an  authenticated  digital  identity  –  online  services  have  been  those  that  do  not  require  a  high  assurance  of  identity

¡  Even  in  person,  there  is  not  a  common  reliable  way  to  confidently  establish  identity

Page 14: Towards a Digital Society English

¡  British  Columbia  has  introduced  a  BC  services  card  with  chip  technology

¡  The  Provinces  and  Territories  are  developing  a  “hub”  to  allow  the  sharing  of  authenticated  identities  between  Provinces  and  with  the  federal  government

¡  New  Brunswick  has  an  opportunity  to  catch  up  …  and  move  ahead

Page 15: Towards a Digital Society English

¡  Improved  security  and  privacy

¡  Opportunities  for  academia  and  business  if  NB  is  positioned  at  national  forefront

A  bit  1984ish  don’t  you  think…what  would  George  Orwell  have  to  say  about  this?

¡  A  strong  open  data  framework  which  increases  transparency  of  government

¡  Do  –  Create  a  decentralized,  distributed  system  so  that  all  existing  components  can  be  linked  and  new  ones  can  be  added,  no  matter  what  platform  they  use

¡  Don’t  –  Try  to  force  everyone  to  use  a  centralized  database  or  system,  which  won’t  meet  their  needs  and  will  be  seen  as  a  burden  rather  than  a  benefit

¡  Do  –  Be  a  smart  purchaser,  buying  the  most  appropriate  systems  developed  by  the  private  sector

¡  Don’t  –  Waste  millions  contracting  large,  slow  development  projects  that  result  in  inflexible  systems

¡  Do  –  Find  systems  that  are  already  working,  allowing  for  faster  implementation

¡  Don’t  –  Rely  on  pie-‐in-‐the-‐sky  solutions  that  take  time  to  develop  and  may  not  work
