MOTIONS FROM COUNCIL– JANUARY 18, 2016:   

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐03 ‐ Committee Appointment It was moved  by  Councillor Hudson,  seconded  by  Councillor Mersereau  to  appoint  Issam Mansour  to  the  Municipal  Effectiveness  Advisory  Committee  (MEAC)  for  a  term  ending     December 2016. Motion carried.  

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐04 ‐ Committee Appointment It  was  moved  by  Councillor  Hudson,  seconded  by  Councillor  Paquette  to  appoint  Alan       Melanson to the Marketing and Economic Developing Committee (MEDC) for a term ending       December 2016. Motion carried.  

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐05 ‐ Committee Appointment It was moved by Councillor Paquette, seconded by Councillor Hudson to ratify the following motion  held  by  electronic  vote  on  December  23,  2015:  MOTION  1  ‐  It  was  moved  by      Councillor Mersereau, seconded by Councillor Paquette that Council appoint Brian Bohaker as a Citizen Member of the Planning and Heritage Advisory Committee (PHAC) for a two year term commencing January 1, 2016. Motion carried. Councillor Hudson abstained from voting.    Motion carried.  

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐06 ‐ Committee Appointment It was moved by Councillor Paquette, seconded by Councillor Hudson that Council approve that Brian Bohaker be the Planning and Heritage Advisory Committee representative on the Municipal Effectiveness Awareness Committee. Motion carried.  

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐07 ‐ Committee Appointment It was moved by Councillor Hudson, seconded by Councillor Mersereau that Council appoint Ashley McCormick as a member of the MEAC Committee, subject to his acceptance. Motion carried.  

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐08 ‐ Commencement of the Town’s Strategic Planning Review It was moved by Councillor Mersereau, seconded by Deputy Mayor Power that Council move forward    with  the  work  to  update  the  Strategic  Plan  as  presented  by  CAO  Barr  to  the       Committee of the Whole meeting on January 6, 2016. Motion carried.   

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐09  ‐ Marketing and Economic Development Committee’s Funding Authority It was moved by Deputy Mayor Power,  seconded by Councillor Paquette  that Council give authority to MEDC to pre‐approve up to $5000.00 in applications that are received in a time sensitive manner  and  is  a  repeat  Donations  &  Grants  application  that  has  been  recom‐mended by staff for the 2016/17 budget year. Motion carried.   

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐10 ‐ Advertising in the Explorer It was moved by Councillor Paquette, seconded by Councillor Hudson that Council accept the proposal for Option 2 of the two page insert into the current Explorer with $1500 this fiscal year and an additional $1000 commitment for the next five years of the publication. Motion carried.  

MOTION #C‐2016‐01‐18‐11—Board of Police Commissioners Appointment  It was moved  by  Councillor  Hudson,  seconded  by  Councillor Mersereau  that  Council  re‐appoint  Rion  Microys  for  another  term  to  the  Board  of  Police  Commissioners.  Motion       carried.

ABoT Annual General Meeting Thursday March 17 

The Annapolis Board of Trade will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, March 17th, at 7:00 pm at PeopleWorx, 253 St. George Street, Annapolis Royal. Council elections will take place  at  this meeting,  and  nominations  from  the  floor will  be  accepted.  All  ABoT members       are   welcome   to   attend.   Light   refreshments   will   be   served.    The regular March General Meeting will take place the week before ‐ Thursday, March 10th, at 7:00pm at the same  location.   New ABoT members will be voted  in at this meeting. Member‐ship forms are available on‐line at http://www.tradeannapolis.com/boardoftrade/application 

Town of Annapolis Royal 

Accounting  Clerk (Temporary Full‐time)  The Town of Annapolis Royal is accepting applications for a temporary full‐time (80%) Accounting Clerk to fill approximately a one (1) year maternity leave.    

The Accounting Clerk position requires a multitasking  individual with a high energy  level to provide direct service to citizens, businesses and visitors and to directly support the work of the Director of Finance, and  indirectly to other Town departments.   The work       includes comprehensive knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivables, as well as, the maintenance of all water utility accounts and billing.  

The  ideal Accounting Clerk will have excellent customer service, written and oral communication and computerized accounting skills and have a good knowledge of general office procedures.  The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while managing their workload effectively.  

The successful candidate will also have at least two years in an accounting or bookkeeping capacity, with a strong background in Microsoft Office (excel and word) and accounting procedures.  

The position will commence in late April to allow for at least four (4) weeks training with the current Accounting Clerk.

Public Notice: Please  be  aware  that  the  temporary stop  signs  used  during  power  outages at  the  lights at  the Prince Albert Road and St. George Street  intersection, are to  be  removed.  This  is  being  done  In 

order to comply with provincial driving regulations. If the power goes out at the lights, the intersection is to be treated as a four‐way stop.  

To allow  for  the best pos‐sible  snow  clearing,  we ask  that  residents  and business  owners  please keep  the  sidewalks  clear of  garbage/recycling  bags and  compost  bins  on    garbage  pickup  days  if there has been a snowfall. Your  cooperation  is much appreciated!

March 26th is the 10th Annual Annapolis Royal Easter Eggstravaganza!  A very special part of that is…. 

The Amazing Race: Zombunny Eggpocalypse 

This event  is for youth aged 10‐14 years, entering and competing  in teams of two.   The event starts at 1pm at the Historic Gardens. Please arrive by 12:50pm, dress for running and off‐road adventure, and bring bottled water as well as a pen and notepad.  This event is free to participants, and cool prizes will be awarded to winners. Fear the Bun‐dead.

Annapolis Royal Community Pool is Hiring for 2016

Annapolis Royal Recreation’s office has moved to ARRA…to offer daily public use of the ARRA Gym  

The gym at ARRA is now available for a weekday drop‐in use at a rate of $5/day per person. Come out to play sports, do a workout using  the available  fitness equipment, play games with your kids, or  take an  invigorating  indoor walk during  the colder months. Noah Scanlan, the Town’s Active Living Coordinator, has moved his base of operations to the ARRA audito‐rium to facilitate this usage.  Please stop by to take a look and see how using this fantastic recreation space could work for you!  

Discounted monthly membership rates are now available, and there will be a special rate for families during March break! The gym is also available for private rental. Stop by for a free first‐timer day pass and to learn more! To check  for the times that the gym will be available  for drop‐in use, please go to www.annapolisroyal.com, under the “Recreation” tab and view the posted calendar, or call Noah.  

New Session of Power Hour  

A new session is starting the first week of March!  Mon 8:05pm ‐9:05pm, Wed 7:00pm‐8:00pm, and Thurs 7:00pm‐8:00pm.   

Monday  classes are designed  to accommodate new participants who may be new  to  fitness  classes, but open  to all  skill     levels. Session fees are $70 for 20 classes, $40 for 10 classes, or a drop‐in fee of $4.00/class. For more information, contact Noah Scanlan at the number below.
