The Sapporo Snow Festival is one of the greatest festivals of Hokkaido. Held every year in early to mid-February, the almost 100 snow statues are a great hit with visitors to the festival. Naruto WhirlpoolsMatsuyama Castle, is a five story flatland castle that was built in 1603. The castle is one of the few that survived the Meiji Restoration, but was unfortunately sections of the castle were destroyed by air raids during World War 2.

The Iya Valley is a scenic valley that contains some excellent hiking, beautiful bridges, and some pretty spectacular onsen. Some of the more interesting attractions in the valley are some bridges that are made from vines found in the valley. The bridges are quite stunning and make for excellent additions to the surrounding natural beauty.
