PREVIEW: Glamorgan have never won this competition but havebeen one of the stronger sides in the shorter game this season.

Acting captain Robert Croft has led by example, producing solidscores with the bats and regularly taking wickets with his off-spin.

Derbyshire have had an indifferent start. Chris Bassano hasimpressed at the crease and fireworks are expected fromoverseas player Shahid Afridi, while Dominic Cork and Kevin Deanhave produced strong bowling performances.

PREVIEW: Gloucestershire, the powerhouse of one-day cricketover the last few years, have struggled this season.

The absence of Ian Harvey has affected their balance somewhatbut the acquisition of Jonty Rhodes and his sublime fielding skillshas been a shrewd move.

Kent have not faired much better in the shorter form of the gameeither but their confidence should be boosted by their five-wicketwin against the same opponents at the quarter-final stage lastyear.

PREVIEW: Surrey have been in awesome form in one-day cricketso far this season but do not have a good record in thiscompetition.

Their 1982 triumph was their only success and they have notreached the final since 1991.

Somerset are looking to reach Lord's for the fourth time in fiveyears and have also been in good form.

The injury to Andrew Caddick will be a blow but fellow pacemenRichard Johnson and Nixon McLean remain a threat.

PREVIEW: Essex have started the season strongly and will aim tomaintain that with a trip to the C&G Trophy quarter-finals.

Will Jefferson's form has played a major role in that with somevery impressive innings from the youngster.

All-rounder Graham Napier has also caught the eye with hismedium pacers.

On the other hand, Warwickshire's form has been disappointingand good things are needed from the bats of Nick Knight, Ian Belland James Troughton.

PREVIEW: Yorkshire have suffered two woeful batting collapsesalready in limited-overs play this term and will hope to put thatbehind them against a strong Worcestershire side.

The holders are crying out for some solid performances fromsenior batsmen Michael Vaughan and Anthony McGrath.

Worcestershire duo Vikram Solanki and Graeme Hick havealready shown their class this season with the bat and their paceattack of Kabir Ali, Andrew Hall and Nantie Hayward will always bedangerous.

One innings per side of up to 50 overs. A maximum of 10 oversper bowler.

Scheduled hours of play 11am to 6.45pm. Each inningsscheduled to last a maximum three hours and 45 minutes. There will normally be two sessions of play of three hours and30 minutes each, with an interval from 2.30pm to 3.25pm. The interval will be reduced if necessary.

Two drinks intervals per innings, but these can be cancelled tomake up time lost to interruptions.

The fielding side can be penalised for slow over rates by theaddition of runs to the batting side’s total.

For the first 15 overs a minimum of seven fielders plus thebowler and wicket-keeper must be inside the fielding circle asthe ball is bowled. For the rest of the innings a minimum of fourfielders plus the bowler and wicket-keeper must be inside thecircle. The restrictions are lifted earlier when the number ofovers is reduced.

In the event of a tie, the team losing fewer wickets will win. If the sides are still level, the higher score after 15 overs willwin.

In rounds one and two, run rate may be used to set a revisedtarget after a suspension of play. From round three onwards, the Duckworth Lewis system will be used.

For a detailed weather forecast check outwww.paweathercentre.com or teletext page 151

For each innings: Use the table to calculate the resource percentage lostby the interruption and therefore calculate the resource percentage stillavailable.

2If team 2 have less resources available than team 1, calculate the ratio ofthe resources available to both teams. Team 2’s revised target is obtainedby scaling down team 1’s score by this ratio.

33) If team 2 have more resources available than team 1, calculate theamount by which team 2’s resources exceeds team 1’s. Work this out asa percentage of 225 (the average 50-over score in ECB matches and one-day internationals). This gives the extra runs to add to team 1’s score togive team 2’s target.

The procedure for working out targets is as follows:

All Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy matches have a reserve day, but if play isstill lost to the weather the Duckworth Lewis system can be used to reset targets. The system is based on what percentage of its resources (overs and wickets) ateam have left. With 50 overs left and 10 wickets remaining, a team has 100 per cent of itsresources left. The table shows the percentage of resources at other stages inthe innings.
