Total quality management 1. When mentioning about fibre properties it is important to mention about properties of cotton, silk, wool, viscose, polyester, nylon, acrylic. 2. If you want to develop an outer wear to a woman, how do you develop it? e.g. What is the garment- 100% cotton ladies pant End use- picnic going ( casual wear) The fabric should be strong but smooth and fine/ light in weight. It should have a wash down effect. For this purpose the fibres should be fine and long, because as the fibres are fine we can use more fibres in the cross section of the yarn. Normally fine fibres are matured so that the result would be a fine yarn with good evenness. Since there are many fibres in the cross section the yarn will be flexible. Also fibres are long, so when twisted together there will be high yarn strength. With all these matters we can produce a strong fabric with a smooth surface. The fabric must have a good cover factor. It should be around between 32-35. This means the yarns are closely woven. Therefore the shrinkage will be below 2% in both directions. Since there are matured fibre the dye affinity is very good. As a result the colour fastness will be good. As there are long fibres in the cross section of the yarn, it has less hairiness. This will help to dye the fabric evenly and also fabric will be smooth. Therefore this fabric will be strong, smooth, flexible and will suit for the garment. 3. How would you control the quality of a garment factory?

2. If you want to develop an outer wear to a woman, how do you develop it?e.g. What is the garment- 100% cotton ladies pantEnd use- picnic going ( casual wear)The fabric should be strong but smooth and fine/ light in weight. Therefore this fabric will be strong, smooth, flexible and will suit for the garment.

3. How would you control the quality of a garment factory? If the system consist of faults there is some non-conformance taking place. It is simply checking the specifications. For controlling quality you need to communicate effectively for all about what you are going to do.First you should identify the current situation-e.g.- how many defects for hundred units? 15 %why is it happening?e.g.- no training, recruitment is not good then setting an objectivee.g.- recruiting good people, giving required trainingtargete.g.- reducing the defect percentage to 12% within a time frame.

A quality policye.g.- I would never sell bad quality garment to my customer. I shall always order good quality raw material meeting the specifications of the customer. And this will be repeated again to reach a higher state than this by reducing the DHU.

4. Evolution of quality

Inspection by factory owner. Factory owner also inspect but he expects the supervisor also to inspect. (inspection means sorting out good or bad) Quality tools were introduced. Pareto analysis, cause can effect diagrams, SPC and control charts, brain storming, quality cycle. This is where the quality control is used. These tools are used for quality control. Quality assurance, the main purpose here is built in quality in to the product. TQM came in to being, here customer, process, people, supplier relationship are important. All these areas must play in together. the theme in TQM is continuous improvement. It is providing excellent quality to satisfy the customer.

5. What would be the impact of the economic development of a country on quality? When there is low development in a country. People do not have good understanding about quality. They take everything for granted. They accept bad quality and good quality both. That is because they dont have money to buy good quality products. Everything is ok. So they dont have a good picture about quality. Once economic development takes place in a country people will have money in their hands. Then they start demanding good quality products. They will not buy bad quality products. Then only they understand what is quality. Until such situations arises in a country people will have to work because they are being told to do so. but once that is economic development they understand quality , they will not do bad work.

6. How would you implement TQM in a factory? Important things that should mentioned are The implementation should be transparent. People, customer and process should be mentioned. Continuous improvement

7. What is doc to store. Briefly explain.

8. What is Accepted Quality Level?

No single product will look alike. But we should consider them as acceptable if it is within the standards. AQL means we shall accept defective products if the number of defectives does not exceed a certain limit. This no.of defectives which will be accepted will depend upon the sample size. The sample size is determined according to the accepted quality level. As the AQL figure increases from 1-10 it means more rejects will be tolerated from the sample. If the accepted level figure is low e.g.- 2.5, then the rejects that will be accepted from the sample will be less.
