PREDGOVOR

Popisot na naselenieto, doma}instvata i stanovite vo Republika Makedonija be{esproveden vo periodot od 1 do 15 noemvri 2002 godina. Podatocite vo popisnite obrasci sezapi{ani so sostojba na den 31 oktomvri 2002 godina vo 24 ~asot, odnosno na polno} pome|u 31oktomvri i 1 noemvri 2002 godina.

Popisot be{e sproveden vrz osnova na Zakonot za Popisot na naselenieto, doma}instvatai stanovite vo Republika Makedonija, 2001 godina ("Slu`ben vesnik na Republika Makedonija",br. 16/2001 i izmenite i dopolnuvawata na ovoj Zakon objaveni vo "Slu`ben vesnik na RepublikaMakedonija", br. 37/2001, 70/2001 i 43/2002 godina).

Metodologijata, definiciite i klasifikaciite vo ovoj Popis se celosno usoglaseni soZakonot za Popis i so preporakite za popisite na naselenieto, doma}instvata i stanovite koise podgotveni od strana na Obedinetite nacii i Statisti~kata slu`ba na Evropskata unija -EUROSTAT. So ova e obezbedena i me|unarodna sporedlivost na podatocite od Popisot.

Prvite definitivni rezultati od Popisot na naselenieto, doma}instvata i stanovite,2002 godina, Dràvniot zavod za statistika gi objavi na 1 dekemvri, 2003 godina. Vo soglasnostso Zakonot za Popis, Dràvniot zavod za statistika e obvrzan do krajot na juni 2004 godina da giobjavi site planirani 12 publikacii od Popisot, 2002 godina.

Ova e devetta publikacija (Kniga IX, Popis 2002) vo koja se sodràni 13 tabeli so podatociza vkupnoto naselenie vo Republika Makedonija spored odredeni belezi: doseleno naselenievo Republika Makedonija i doseleno naselenie vo ramkite na Republika Makedonija; naseleniespored zakonskata bra~na sostojba; ènsko naselenie; naselenie spored etni~kitekarakteristiki - nacionalna pripadnost, maj~in jazik i veroispoved i naselenie sporeddràvjanstvoto. Podatocite vo site tabeli se odnesuvaat na vkupnoto naselenie vo RepublikaMakedonija. Isklu~ok se samo podatocite za doselenoto naselenie sodràni vo prvite tri tabelivo koi ne se vklu~eni strancite so odobrenie za prestoj prisutni vo Republika Makedonija ednagodina i pove}e. Podatocite vo site trinaeset tabeli se prikaàni na nivo na op{tini, vosoglasnost so vaè~kata teritorijalna podelba na Republika Makedonija.

O~ekuvame deka so podatocite sodràni vo ovaa publikacija i vo publikaciite koi sledat,}e bidat zadovoleni najgolem del od potrebite na korisnicite na na{ite podatoci. Sekako, zasekoj korisnik koj }e ima potreba od drugi podatoci od Popisot, a koi ne se vklu~eni voplaniranite publikacii, Dràvniot zavod za statistika }e gi napravi site potrebni obrabotkii ovie barawa da bidat zadovoleni.

PREFACE

The Census of Population, Households and Dwellings was carried out from the 1 st to the 15 th ofNovember 2002. The data in the Census forms have been written according to the situation as of 31st

October 2002 at 24:00 hrs, namely at midnight between 31st of October and 1st of November 2002.The Census was carried out according to the Law on Census of Population, Households and Dwellings

in the Republic of Macedonia, 2001 (''Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia'' No 16/2001 andchanges and supplements to this Law published in the ''Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia''No 37/2001, 70/2001 and 43/2002).

The methodology, definitions and classifications for this Census are completely harmonized withthe Law on Census and the Recommendations for Censuses on Population Households and Dwellingsprepared by the United Nations and the Statistical Service of the European Union - EUROSTAT. Thisensures the international comparison of the Census data.

The State Statistical Office has announced the first final results of the Census on Population,Households and Dwellings 2002, on 1st of December 2003. According to the Census Law, the State StatisticalOffice is obligated till the end of June 2004, to publish all 12 planed publications for the Census 2002.

This is the ninth publication (Book IX, Census 2002) which contains 13 tables with data for the TotalPopulation in the Republic of Macedonia according to certain topics: immigrated population in the Republicof Macedonia and immigrated population within the Republic of Macedonia; population according to thelegal marital status; female population; population according to the ethnic characteristics - ethnic affiliation,mother tongue and religion and population according to the citizenship. The data in all tables refers to theTotal Population in the Republic of Macedonia. The exclusions are only the data of immigrated populationcontained in the first three tables where the foreigners with residence permit are not included that arepresent in the Republic of Macedonia more than 1 year. The data in all thirteen tables are shown onmunicipality level, according to the existing territorial distribution of the Republic of Macedonia.

We expect that, data contained in this publication and in the following publications will satisfy themost of the users needs for our data. Certainly, for each user who will need another data from the Census,that are not included in the designed publications, the State Statistical Office will make all necessary dataprocessing to satisfy these requests.

METODOLO[KI OBJASNUVAWA

1. Period na sproveduvawe na Popisot

Popisot na naselenieto, doma}instvata i stanovite vo Republika Makedonija e sprovedenvo periodot od 1 do 15 noemvri 2002 godina. Podatocite vo popisnite obrasci se zapi{ani sporedsostojbata na 31 oktomvri 2002 godina vo 24 ~asot, odnosno na polno} pome|u 31 oktomvri i 1noemvri 2002 godina. Ovoj vremenski presek vo statistikata se narekuva "kriti~en moment naPopisot".

2. Metod na popi{uvawe

Popisot e izvr{en po pat na intervju od strana na obu~eni ovlasteni lica (popi{uva~i) sozapi{uvawe na podatocite vo pe~ateni obrasci.

Osnovni popisni obrasci koristeni vo Popisot se:

- Popisnica ( Obrazec P-1) -za sekoe popi{ano lice edinica na Popisot;

- Pra{alnik za doma}instvo i stan (Obrazec P-2) - za sekoe popi{ano doma}instvo i stanedinica na Popisot;

- Kontrolnik (Obrazec P-4) - za evidentirawe na site popi{ani edinici

3. Edinici opfateni so Popisot

So Popisot na naselenieto, doma}instvata i stanovite, 2002 se opfateni slednite edinici:

-Lica

1.Licata koi imaat mesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe vo Republika Makedonija, bez ogleddali vo momentot na Popisot se nao|aat vo mestoto na ̀ iveewe ili vo drugo mesto vo RepublikaMakedonija;

2.Strancite koi imaat odobrenie za prestoj vo Republika Makedonija i se privremenoprisutni vo Republika Makedonija najmalku 12 meseci (edna godina), no so mesto na voobi~aenoìveewe nadvor od Republika Makedonija;

3.Licata koi imaat mesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe vo Republika Makedonija, a vo vremetona Popisot, no najdolgo do 12 meseci (edna godina) pred negovoto sproveduvawe, se nao|aat narabota vo stranstvo, kako i ~lenovite na nivnite doma}instva;

4.Licata koi imaat mesto na voobi~aeno ̀ iveewe vo Republika Makedonija, a koi vo vremetona Popisot se na rabota vo diplomatsko-konzularnite pretstavni{tva na Republika Makedonijavo stranstvo, Obedinetite nacii i nejzinite organizacii, pretstavni{tva ili pretstavnici naStopanskata komora vo stranstvo, delovni edinici vo stranstvo, vojni pretstavnici na Armijatana Republika Makedonija vo stranstvo i gra|anite koi se angaìrani vrz osnova na me|unarodna,


tehni~ka i druga sorabotka, {koluvawe, kako i ~lenovite na doma}instvata koi so navedenitelica privremeno prestojuvaat vo stranstvo;

5.Licata koi imaat mesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe vo Republika Makedonija, a koi ne giposeduvaat dokumentite od ~len 39 to~ka 1 od Zakonot za Popis, dokolku gi prezentiraatdokumentite utvrdeni vo ~len 39 to~ka 3 od Zakonot za Popis;

6.Strancite so priznat status na begalec koi vo vremeto na Popisot se vo RepublikaMakedonija;

7.Strancite so priznat status na privremena humanitarna za{tita koi vo vremeto na Popisotse vo Republika Makedonija i

8.Drugite lica koi vo vremeto na Popisot se na teritorijata na Republika Makedonija,osven licata spomnati vo prethodnite dve kategorii.

LICATA OPFATENI SO NAVEDENITE OSUM KATEGORII GO SOÎNUVAATPOPI[ANOTO NASELENIE VO REPUBLIKA MAKEDONIJA.

-Stanovi (stanovite vo potesna smisla na zborot, naselenite delovni prostorii,improviziranite ìveali{ta i t.n. kolektivni ìveali{ta)

4. Mesto na popi{uvawe

Mestoto na popi{uvawe e mestoto na voobi~eno ìveewe na liceto - edinica na Popisot.Po pravilo, licata so mesto na voobi~aeno ̀ iveewe vo Republika Makedonija, a koi vo vremetona Popisot se nao|aa vo stranstvo, no ne podolgo od edna godina, se popi{uvaa vo stranstvo, vodiplomatskite i konzularnite pretstavni{tva na Republika Makedonija. Popisot vo stranstvobe{e sproveden od strana na Ministerstvoto za nadvore{ni raboti vo sorabotka sodiplomatskite i konzularnite pretstavnici.

So cel usoglasuvawe i prilagoduvawe na Popisot kako statisti~ka operacija konstandardite na evropskata i svetskata statistika, vo Popisot 2002 se napraveni odredenipromeni koi, pred sé, se odnesuvaat na definiraweto na edinicite na Popisot i presmetuvawetona kategorijata vkupno naselenie. Popi{uvaweto na edinicite na Popisot e sprovedeno sporedmestoto na voobi~aeno ìveewe, a kako edinici na Popisot ne se smetaat licata so mesto navoobi~aeno ̀ iveewe vo Republika Makedonija koi se nao|aat na rabota vo stranstvo i ~lenovitena nivnite doma}instva koi so niv prestojuvaat vo stranstvo podolgo od 12 meseci.

Ovie promeni onevozmoùvaat celosna sporedlivost na podatocite od ovoj Popis sopodatocite od prethodnite popisi.


5. Mesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe

Pod mesto na voobi~aeno ̀ iveewe se podrazbira geografskoto mesto kade {to popi{anotolice voobi~aeno ̀ ivee. Toa moè da bide isto ili razli~no od mestoto kade {to liceto fakti~kise nao|alo vo vremeto na Popisot ili toa moè da bide negovo oficijalno (spored li~niotdokument) mesto na ìveewe. Vsu{nost, mestoto na voobi~aeno ìveewe e mestoto kade {toliceto pominuva najgolem del od svojot dneven, odnosno no}en odmor.

Vkupno naselenie vo zemjata e vkupnoto naselenie vo Republika Makedonija namaleno zanaselenieto otsutno vo stranstvo pomalku od edna godina na samostojna rabota ili na rabota kajstranski rabotodavec, kako i ~lenovite na nivnite doma}instva.

Podatocite vo tabelite 1, 2 i 3 se odnesuvaat na doselenoto naselenie vo RepublikaMakedonija. Vo Popisot 2002 godina, vo odnos na doseluvawata, podatoci se pribirani samo zalicata so mesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe vo Republika Makedonija. Za licata so odobrenie zaprestoj vo Republika Makedonija, begalcite, humanitarno zgriènite i drugite lica koi vovremeto na Popisot se na{le na teritorijata na Republika Makedonija, vakvi podatoci ne sepribrani bidej}i tie se privremeno prisutni vo Republika Makedonija, odnosno postojanonaseleni vo drugi zemji.

Vo Tabela 1 se prikaàni podatocite za vkupnoto naselenie na Republika Makedonijaspored poslednoto doseluvawe.

Vo vkupnoto naselenie na Republika Makedonija ne se vklu~eni strancite soodobrenie za prestoj prisutni vo Republika Makedonija 1 godina i pove}e.


Doseleno naselenie

Doselenoto naselenie vo odredeno naseleno mesto go so~inuvaat site lica koi od svoetora|awe ne ̀ iveat neprekinato vo mestoto na voobi~aeno ̀ iveewe vo vremeto na Popisot, odnosnosite lica koi prethodno bile naseleni vo nekoe drugo mesto vo Republika Makedonija ili vostranstvo.

Za licata koi se selele pove}e pati, kako mesto od koe se doselile se smeta poslednotomesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe, odnosno nivnoto mesto na voobi~aeno ìveewe neposredno predda se doselat vo mestoto na Popisot.

Podatocite za doselenoto naselenie se odnesuvaat na doseluvaweto vo mestoto navoobi~aeno ̀ iveewe od drugo naseleno mesto vo ista op{tina, od drugo naseleno mesto od drugaop{tina, i od druga dràva.

Liceto ne se smeta za doseleno:

- ako e rodeno nadvor od mestoto vo koe majkata imala postojano mesto na ìveewe(na primer vo bolnica, kaj rodnini i sli~no) i neposredno po ra|aweto liceto e doneseno vomestoto na ìveewe;

- ako liceto zaminalo od mestoto na voobi~aeno ìveewe, odnosno do{lo vo drugonaseleno mesto poradi rabota, {koluvawe i drugi sli~ni pri~ini;

- ako liceto se vratilo od prestoj vo stranstvo;

- ako liceto e rodeno vo stranstvo, a majkata vo vremeto na negovoto ra|awe imalapostojano mesto na ìveewe vo Republika Makedonija;

- ako liceto, neposredno po zavr{uvaweto na vojnata, se vratilo vo mestoto napostojano ìveewe vo Republika Makedonija od kade {to zaminalo poradi vojni okolnosti;

- ako liceto menuvalo adresa na mestoto na voobi~aeno ìveewe vo ramkite na istonaseleno mesto ili se preselilo od edno naseleno mesto vo sosedno naseleno mesto, a koidopolnitelno se proglaseni za edno naseleno mesto, odnosno koi vo momentot na Popisotpretstavuvaat edno naseleno mesto;

- ako liceto menuvalo adresa na mestoto na voobi~aeno ìveewe vo ramkite na istonaseleno mesto, a vo razli~ni op{tini ( na primer od gradskiot del na op{tina ̂ air vo gradskiotdel na op{tina Karpo{).

Ekonomska aktivnost

Podatocite za ekonomskata aktivnost se odnesuvaat na nedelata koja prethodi na Popisot.

Vo odnos na ekonomskata aktivnost, naselenieto e grupirano vo dve osnovni grupi:

- aktivno naselenie i

- neaktivno naselenie

Aktivnoto naselenie go so~inuvaat licata na vozrast od 15 godini i pove}e i toa:

- lica koi vr{at zanimawe - vo raboten odnos ili samostojno;

- lica koi ne vr{at zanimawe - lica koi prekinale rabota poradi bankrotirawe narabotodavecot, sezonski karakter na rabotata, lica koi ~ekaat da otpo~nat so nova rabota,u~enici, studenti, penzioneri, doma}inki, nevraboteni i drugi lica koi baraat rabota.

Pod vrabotenost, vo soglasnost so me|unarodnite standardi, se podrazbira sekojaekonomska aktivnost vo traewe od najmalku eden ~as vo nabquduvanata nedela.

Toa zna~i deka vrabotenosta ne go podrazbira samo formalniot raboten odnos tuku i drugiteoblici na rabota so koi se steknuvaat sredstva za ìvot.

Neaktivnoto naselenie go so~inuvaat licata koi ne se vraboteni i licata koi prekinaleso rabota i koi ne baraat rabota:

-doma}inki (angaìrani na dol`nosti vo ramkite na doma}instvoto vo nivniot sopstvendom);

-lica na otsluùvawe na voen rok;

-lica na izdrùvawe kazna zatvor;

METHODOLOGICAL EXPLANATIONS

1. Time of conducting of the Census

The Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in the Republic of Macedonia was carried outin the period from 1st to 15th of November 2002. The data in the Census forms have been recorded with thesituation as of 31st of October 2002 at 24:00 hrs, namely on midnight between 31st of October and 1st ofNovember 2002. This date is Census reference date - "Critical moment of the Census".

2. Method of enumeration

The Census was carried out by an interview from trained authorized persons (enumerators) byrecording the data in the printed forms.

- Enumeration form (P-1 form) - for each enumerated person - unit of the Census

- Questionnaire for household and dwelling (P-2 form) - for each enumerated householdand dwelling - unit of the Census

- Control form (P-4 form) - for evidence of all enumerated units

3. Units covered by the Census

The Census of Population, Households and Dwellings, 2002 covered the following units:

- Persons (individuals)

1. Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, regardless whether atthe time of the Census they are present, at their place of usual residence or elsewhere in the Republic ofMacedonia;

2. Foreigners who have a residence permit in the Republic of Macedonia and they are temporarilypresent in the Republic of Macedonia at least 12 months (one year), but who have a place of usualresidence outside of the Republic of Macedonia;

3. Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, and at the time of theCensus, but for a maximum of 12 months (one year) prior to its conduction, are working abroad, as well asthe members of their households;

4. Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, and during the time ofthe Census are working abroad at the diplomatic and consular representative offices of the Republic ofMacedonia, the United Nations and its organizations, representative offices or being representatives ofthe Chamber of Commerce abroad, business offices abroad, military representatives of the Army of theRepublic of Macedonia, and citizens engaged on the bases of international, technical and other kinds ofco-operation, education, as well as the members of their households who are staying abroad temporarywith the aforesaid persons;


5. Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, but are not in possessionof the documents pursuant to Article 39, item 1 from the Census Law, if they present the documents statedwith Article 39 item 3 from the Census Law;

6. Foreigners with acknowledged status of refugee who at the time of the Census are present in theRepublic of Macedonia;

7. Foreigners with acknowledged status of a temporal humanitarian protection that at the time of theCensus are present in the Republic of Macedonia;

8. Other persons who at the time of the Census are present on the territory of the Republic ofMacedonia, except the persons mentioned in the previous two categories.

PERSONS COVERED WITH THE ABOVEMENTIONED EIGHT CATEGORIES CONSISTTHE ENUMERATED POPULATION IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA.

PERSONS COVERED WITH THE ABOVEMENTIONED CATEGORIES FROM ONE TO FIVECONSIST THE TOTAL POPULATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA.

- Households (households of the persons being Census units) and

- Dwellings (dwellings in a narrow sense of word, inhabited business premises, improvised livingquarters and collective living quarters)

4. Place of enumeration

The place of enumeration is the place of usual residence of the persons - Census units. As a rule,the persons with a place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia who at the Census period areabsent abroad up to one year, are enumerated abroad, at the diplomatic and consular representativeoffices. The Census abroad was carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with co-operation with thediplomatic and consular representatives.

Due to harmonization and adjustment of the Census as statistical operation towards the standardsof European and World Statistics, in the Census 2002 certain changes have been made that are inrelation of defining of the Census units and calculation of the category total population. The enumerationof the Census units was conducted by place of usual residence, and persons with a place of usualresidence in the Republic of Macedonia working abroad more than 12 months, as well as the members oftheir households, were not Census units.

These changes do not allow a complete compatibility of the data from this Censuswith the data from the previous censuses

5. Place of usual residence

Place of usual residence is the geographic place where the enumerated person usually resides.This may be the same as, or different from the place were the person actually was at the time of theCensus, or it may be his/her legal residence (according to the personal document). A person's place ofusual residence understands the place where he/she spends most of his/her daily or night rest.

In this publication the data from the Census 2002 are presented in thirteen tables:


1. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the last immigration, by sex

2. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia immigrated in the place of usual residenceaccording to the age in the time of immigration (according to the last immigration)

3. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia immigrated from abroad, according to the countryand year of immigration

4. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the legal marital status and sex

5. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the legal marital status, sex andage

6. Total population: female population at 15 years of age and over according to five-years agegroups and the number of live-born children

7. Total population: female population at 15 years of age and over according to educationalattainment

8. Total population in the country: female population at 15 years of age and over according to theactivity and the number of live-born children and persons who are performing an activity according to theoccupation

9. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the mother tongue and age

10. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the mother tongue and sex

11. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the religion and age

12. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the religion and sex

13. Total population of the Republic of Macedonia according to the ethnic affiliation and citizenship

Total population

THE TOTAL POPULATION IS consisted of:

- Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, regardless of whether atthe time of the Census they are present at their place of usual residence or elsewhere in the Republic ofMacedonia;

- Foreigners who have a residence permit in the Republic of Macedonia and are temporarily presentin the Republic of Macedonia at least 12 months (one year), but who have a place of usual residenceoutside of the Republic of Macedonia;

- Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, who at the time of theCensus, and for a maximum of 12 months (one year) prior to its conduction are working abroad, as well asthe members of their households;

- Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, and during the time ofthe Census are working abroad at the diplomatic and consular representative offices of the Republic ofMacedonia, the United Nations and its organizations, representative offices or being representatives ofthe Chamber of Commerce abroad, business offices abroad, military representatives of the Army of theRepublic of Macedonia, and citizens engaged on the bases of international, technical and other kinds ofco-operation, education, as well as the members of their households who are staying abroad with theaforesaid persons;


- Persons who have place of usual residence in the Republic of Macedonia, but are not in possessionof the documents pursuant to Article 39, item 1 from the Population Census Law, if they present thedocuments stated with Article 39 item 3 from the Population Census Law.

Total population in the country

Total population in the country is the total population in the Republic of Macedonia minusthe population absent abroad for less than one year working for foreign employer or working independentlyas well as the members of their households who are staying together with them.

The data in Tables 1, 2 and 3 refers to the immigrated population in the Republic of Macedonia. Inthe 2002 Census, in relation to the immigrations, the data are collected only for persons with place ofusual residence in the Republic of Macedonia. For persons with residence permit in the Republic ofMacedonia, refugees, persons under humanitarian care and other persons who found themselves on theterritory of the Republic of Macedonia during the Census, such data were not collected, as they weretemporarily present in the Republic of Macedonia, i.e. they had permanent place of residence in someother country.

Foreigners with residence permit present in the Republic of Macedonia more than 1year are not included in the Total Population of the Republic of Macedonia.

Immigrated population

Immigrated population in a certain settlement is consisted of all those persons who do not liveconstantly from their birth date in the place of usual residence at the time of the Census, i.e. all personswho had lived in some other place in the Republic of Macedonia or abroad.

For persons who had immigrated several times, the place from which they emigrated is consideredto be the place that was their last place of residence, i.e. their place of usual residence directly prior totheir immigration to the place of the Census.

The data of the immigrated population refers to the immigration in the place of usual residence fromother settlement in same municipality, from settlement from other municipality, and from some othercountry.


The person is not considered as immigrated:

- if was not born at the same place where his/her mother was having permanent place ofresidence (for example, in a hospital, with her relatives, similar), and immediately after his/her birth, he/she has been brought to his/her place of residence;

- if the person left the place of usual residence, i.e. went to another settlement because ofwork, education or similar reason;

- if the person came back from staying abroad;

- if the person was born abroad, and the mother, at the time of giving birth had permanentresidence in the Republic of Macedonia;

- if the person, after war being over, came back to the place of permanent residence in theRepublic of Macedonia where the person lived but left it due to war circumstances;

- if the person changed the address of the place of usual residence within the same settlementor moved to a neighbouring settlement, both being additionally proclaimed as one settlement at the timeof the Census;

- if the person changed his/her address of the place of usual residence within the same settlementbut in different municipalities (for example: from the city part of Chair Municipality, to the city part of KiselaVoda Municipality - both being parts of Skopje as a settlement).

Foreigners with residence permit being present in the Republic of Macedonia morethan 1 year are not included in the Total Population of the Republic of Macedonia.

The data of the immigrated population refers to the immigration in the place of usual residence fromother settlement in same municipality, from settlement from other municipality, and from some othercountry.

Age at the time of immigration

The age of the person at the time of immigration is calculated during the processing of the Censusdata, from the answers regarding the year of birth and the year of immigration.

Five years age groups present the data of the persons' age at the time of immigration.

Foreigners with residence permit present in the Republic of Macedonia more than 1year are not included in the Total Population of the Republic of Macedonia.

In the Table 4 the data of the Total Population in the Republic of Macedonia according to marital(legal) status and sex, are presented.

In the Census 2002, data for the variable marital status have been collected regarding the legalmarital status of persons at the time of the Census. For persons who live in an illegitimate community, thelegal marital status has been taken into account, for each one of the persons regardless being member ofthis community.

Five years age groups present the data of age.

In the Table 6 the data of the Total female population at 15 years of age and over by five years agegroups and the number of live-born children, are presented.

The data refer to the female population at 15 years of age and over regardless of their maritalstatus.

Number of live-born children

The number of live-born children relates to the total number of live children that were born by thewoman, including the children who at the moment of the Census are not alive.

Accordingly, children born dead, adopted one and those from the former marriage of the husbandare not taken into consideration when answering this question.

In the Table 7 the data of the Total population in the Republic of Macedonia at 15 years of age andover according to educational attainment by five years age groups and number of live-born children, arepresented.

The highest completed school means the type of school where the person has acquiredthe highest level of education. No difference should be made between acquired education at aregular school or a school that replaces the regular one (example: school for education of adults),respectively acquired by exams taken in a regular school or some program of reduced education.

Total population in the country

Total population in the country is the total population in the Republic of Macedonia minusthe population absent abroad for less than one year working for foreign employer or working independentlytogether with their families.

Economic activity

The data of the economic activity refer to the week that precedes the Census.

According to economic activity, the population is grouped on two basic groups:

- active population and

- non - active population

The active population is consisted of persons at 15 years of age and over:

- persons who are performing an activity - persons that perform an activity as employees orindependently

- persons that are not performing an activity - unemployed persons, persons that are lookingfor a job, as well as persons that have interrupted their employment because of bankruptcy of the employer/own enterprise, because of serving the military service, serving a sentence in a prison or due to seasonalcharacter of the work.


An employment, according to the international standards, means each economic activityfor salary or other type of compensation in duration of at least one hour in the referenceweek.

It means that the employment doesn't mean only the formal employment but also the other types ofwork with which the living resources can be obtained.

Non - active population is consisted of persons that are not employed, that are not looking for ajob and persons that have interrupted their employment:

- housewives

- persons serving military service

- persons serving sentence in a prison

- pupils, students

- permanently incapable for work

- pensioners and

- other

Occupation

The occupation means summary of tasks and duties that according to their content and type areorganizationally and technologically so similar and connected that can be performed by one executorwho has appropriate capabilities, vocation and skills.

For active persons who are performing an occupation, the occupation itself is defined according tothe type of work that is conducted by the person, and not according to the education and training whichthat person has.

The occupation of persons is defined according to the usual duties being performed by the personsat the reference week, and for persons who have been absent from work, the occupation is definedaccording to tasks and duties that would have been usually performed if they would have been at work.

If the persons have performed more types of work at the reference week, an occupation is definedaccording to the work using the largest part of working time.

During the data processing, occupations were grouped according to National Classification of Oc-cupations which structure is harmonized with the structure of the ISCO 88. The National Classification isconsists of:

10 main groups

28 subgroups

115 secondary groups

403 single groups

In the Table 8 the data of occupation are classified according to main groups of occupation.

Number of live-born children

The number of live-born children relates to the total number of live children that were born by thewoman, including the children who at the moment of the Census are not alive.

Mother tongue

Mother tongue means the language that the person have learnt to speak in his/her early childhood,i.e. the language the person considers to be his/her mother tongue, regardless of weather the person stilluses it or not.

Declaration by religious affiliation

According to Article 19 from the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, the citizens are entitledto freedom of religion, which means that they can freely and in public express their religious and spiritualbeliefs.

In the Census questionnaire an empty line was foreseen for the question of religious affiliation, thusensuring the enumerated person to have a whole freedom in his/her declaration. Neither the enumeratornor anybody else could not in any way influence the enumerated persons to state their religious affiliationagainst their own will.

A person could, for private reasons, refrain from declaring his/her religious affiliation.

In the Table 13 the data of the total Population in the Republic of Macedonia according to declara-tion by ethnic affiliation and citizenship, are presented.

In accordance with the Census Law, the data on the ethnic affiliation are results of thefree declaration by the population in reply to this question. For this purpose in the Censusquestionnaire an empty line was foreseen for the question of ethnic affiliation. For children under 15 yearsof age, a response to this question was given by one of the parents, the adoptive parent or guardian.Neither the enumerator nor anybody else could not in any way influence the enumerated person to statehis ethnic affiliation against his own will. In accordance with the Census Law, a person could, for privatereasons, refrain from declaring his/her ethnic affiliation.
