Single Cable Connectivity

High Definition Multimedia Interface is the newindustry standard for connecting modern AVcomponents. HDMITM allows the transmission ofuncompressed digital video and audio content inhigh definition quality. With one-cable connectivity,HDMITM dramatically simplifies home entertainmentsystem installation and ensures the highest pictureand sound quality.

Why 3 HDMITM?

As a digital replacement to the Scart lead, HDMITM

output will be included on most digital AVcomponents and games consoles within the nextfew years so it is critical new televisions have enoughHDMITM inputs to cope. Toshiba Active Vision M100models have an industry leading 3 HDMITM socketsoffering the most flexible digital connectivity for HDsources including HD television broadcasts.

Don’t Disconnect

For quick and easy connection of HD Camcorders orHD Games Consoles, all Active Vision M100 modelshave one HDMITM connection conveniently placed onthe side of the TV. This along with two HDMITM

connections at the rear of the TV, will virtuallyeliminate the need to keep disconnecting oneproduct to connect another.

More choice, digital qualityimages, true widescreen, digitalquality sound, interactive servicesThe Active Vision M100 range features a built-indigital tuner giving you access to Freeview, the terrestrial digital television broadcast serviceyou can receive through your existing aerial*.

The digital signal contains video and audioinformation condensed into a single stream thatdelivers digital quality pictures and sound whilsteliminating the interference or ghosting oftensuffered with conventional analogue signals.

The most obvious benefit of an integrated digitaltuner is the greater choice of channels. Freeviewcurrently offers free access to 35 TV channels, 20digital radio stations, a superb digital text serviceand a high-tech electronic programme guide. The simple on-screen menu provides access to awealth of information including:

A revolution in picture qualitywith intense colour, clarity and definition

High Definition has arrived on cable and satellite TV,on pre-recorded HD DVDs and on WMV HDdownloaded movies. The lifelike picture quality ofHDTV, with its near three-dimensional depth andrealism, dramatically enhances the entire viewingexperience. You get closer to the drama, deeper intothe action and fully immersed in the growing numberof programmes broadcast in HDTV quality.

So What is HDTV?

High Definition television is a broadcast andpre-recorded video format that delivers picturequality vastly superior to standard definitiontelevision and even DVD. The standard TV broadcastsystem in the UK (PAL) creates a picture with 576lines made up of two half-resolution framesinterlaced together. HDTV offers up to 4 times moredetail and clarity thanks to using one of two formats:

720p: 720 lines progressively scanned1080i: 1080 lines interlaced together

High Definition television from broadcast TV andsources like HD DVD is created by displaying a seriesof static images in sequence to fool the eye intothinking it is a moving image - just like cinema film. The HDTV broadcast standard and mostHD Ready televisions produce 50 picture framesevery second to achieve the feeling of motion.

Active Vision M100 technology reproduces astaggering 100 picture frames per second, creating anew intermediate frame between every real frame ofthe broadcast signal by using advanced 10-bit videoprocessing and real-time 360º motion estimation. Each picture frame is held on screen for only 1/120thof a second to eliminate LCD pixel drift and give a farbetter sense of true to life movement.

A cricket ball flying through the air, a football hurtlingtowards the goal or dramatic high-speed car chasesare rendered in super smooth motion with pin-sharpdetail and none of the blurring or motion smear socommonly seen on basic LCD televisions. On screentext, such as football results or news ‘tickers’ scrollseamlessly across the screen with no judder, dramatically improving their readability.

By scanning the HDTV signal 100 times per second,Active Vision M100 models take the HDTV viewingexperience to a new level.

Technology & Innovation

Toshiba’s state-of-the-art Active Vision M100 REGZALCD television range has been designed for thosewho want the very best high definition homeentertainment. Using ultra-fast picture scanning -twice that of standard HDTVs - and a suite ofadvanced image processing features, Active VisionM100 models are Toshiba’s most advanced HDTVsto date.

Active Vision M100 high speed scanning technologygreatly enhances both picture detail and image clarityby reproducing twice as many picture frames persecond as the standard HD television signal. Thetechnology’s ultra-fast image processing enginecreates intermediate frames between each of thebroadcast frames to produce a smoother, moredetailed picture that better represents true to lifemovement.

Ideal for fast moving sports and home cinema action,Active Vision M100 technology offers class-leadingmotion reproduction with crisp, fast action that scrollssmoothly across the screen. LCD blur is virtuallyeliminated and 360º motion sensing meansrazor-sharp reproduction of objects moving bothhorizontally and vertically across the screen.

If having the best LCD picture was not enough, ActiveVision M100 models feature Toshiba’s award-winningREGZA LCD design with its ultra-narrow framearound the screen. The design is further enhancedwith a contemporary high gloss black finish todistinguish this flagship range.

With 32in (32WLT68), 37in (37WLT68) and 42in(42WLT68) screen sizes to choose from and standardfeatures including 3 HDMI inputs, Freeview digitaltuners and built-in sound system by Onkyo®,Toshiba’s Active Vision M100 models offer theultimate in high definition home entertainment.

Active Vision M100100Hz (120Hz)100 frames/sec

By creating a new frame from two original frames anddoubling the number of frames, Active Vision M100reduces afterimages.

This is because each frame is displayed only half the lengthof time compared to the original 50Hz signal by doubling thenumber of frames.

* Intermediate frames artificially created by scanning and storing frames A and B, and calculating a halfway frame.

- How Does it Work?

Active Backlight ControlThe LCD backlight is actively adjusted depending onthe brightness of the source signal to optimisecontrast and brightness balance.

Standard TV UpscalingIf you are not yet ready to invest in a high definitionsource, Active Vision M100 models use activeinternal scaling to reproduce standard TV broadcastsin stunning 1366 x 768 resolution. Off-air analogueand digital TV broadcasts are sharper and morelifelike, and DVDs look better than ever. Toshiba’sActive Vision M100 models are designed to get thevery best from the HDTV revolution, now and intothe future.

Toshiba Stable SoundDigital TV broadcasting has allowed adverts to uselouder-than average sound or music to attractviewer’s attention. This can be highly annoying, particularly late at night, and most HDTVssimply ignore the problem. All Active Vision M100models offer Toshiba’s Stable Sound featurethat if desired, dynamically adjusts volume to keepTV programmes and adverts at a similar sound level.

High-Speed ScanningThe HDTV signal is scanned at 100 times persecond, twice that of standard HDTVs, todramatically improve clarity and picture motion.

10-bit Video ProcessingCutting edge 10-bit video processing improvesresolution and ‘signal to noise’ ratio to create afaithful reproduction of the HDTV source.

360º Motion EstimationActive Vision M100 creates fractional picture framesby estimating the movement - in any direction,360º - of every pixel of the picture frame.

Real DigitalReduces the number of separate signal conversionsto guarantee more of the original signal is retained todisplay on screen.

Enhanced DetailActive Vision M100 produces twice the pixels persecond of standard HDTVs greatly improving finedetail definition.

Natural ColourFour times more colour tones than conventional LCDTVs means more realistic scenes and more naturalskin tones.

MovementActive Vision M100 offers class leading motionprocessing, eliminating blur and smoothing jaggededges even on the fastest moving objects.

PC Window MediaPC-input split screen with TV means you cancontinue working while keeping in touch with livesports or news coverage.

Teletext Media Window50/50 split screen means you can continuewatching TV whilst browsing teletext.

WXGA PC InputDedicated WXGA input mode gives pixel-for-pixelmapping at a true 1366 x 768 resolution for the moststable PC image.

Onkyo Sound SystemActive Vision M100 televisions use separatemid-bass and high-frequency drive units. These givethe biggest sound possible from a slimlineloudspeaker enclosure to improve bass frequency, making dialogue more natural and giving addedclarity to special effects.

To maximise the benefits of the Onkyo® soundsystem, every Active Vision M100 model features adedicated sub-woofer output, with variable levelfrom the remote control, for those wishing to add asub-woofer for low frequency effects. For homecinema enthusiasts there is also an optical digitaloutput for direct connection to an AV amplifier.

Enhanced 3-Dimensional SoundSRS WOW® improves dynamic audio performanceby enlarging the soundstage and boosting lowfrequency effects.

The technology creates a panoramic 3-dimensionalaudio image, eliminating the need for bulky externalloudspeakers and crafting a cinema-like surroundsound experience using the Active Vision M100sbuilt-in Onkyo® loudspeaker system.
