Approvals Timeline

Page 9: TORO ENERGY LIMITED Wiluna Uranium Project: the WA ...10+15+… · …if the ALP come to government and there's a project that's been approved - and when I say been approved I mean

Key Environmental Factors

Factors identified by WA EPA for detailed assessment:

• Groundwater

• Tailings and Mine Closure

• Flora and Vegetation

– Tecticornia, groundwater dependent vegetation

• Subterranean Fauna

– Stygofauna

• Transport

• Radiation

• Heritage

9

Page 10: TORO ENERGY LIMITED Wiluna Uranium Project: the WA ...10+15+… · …if the ALP come to government and there's a project that's been approved - and when I say been approved I mean

Groundwater Drawdown

10

• 0.5m contour for maximum drawdown is worst-case scenario impact zone

• <10% Stygofauna species collected from within mining footprint

• <8% of any PEC impacted

• Past borefield operation at West Creek demonstrates Stygofauna resilience

• Project proposed abstraction at West Creek within historic operations

• Minimal local Tecticornia associations impacted by mining footprint

• No Priority or listed species impacted

11

Mining Plan and Rehabilitation

• Mining for 5 years at Centipede followed by Lake

Way

• De-watering of pits for process water

• Progressive mining, tailings and rehabilitation

• In-pit tailings disposal only into Centipede pits –

below natural ground surface in lined pits

• Disposal sub-aerially in progressive cells – no

decant recovery

• Tailings integrity modelled for 10,000 years

• Mining footprint returned as close as possible to

natural land surface level

• No standing landforms remain post closure

Page 12: TORO ENERGY LIMITED Wiluna Uranium Project: the WA ...10+15+… · …if the ALP come to government and there's a project that's been approved - and when I say been approved I mean

Proposed Transport Route

• Wiluna-Adelaide via national highway system

• 5 conventional ship containers per month (2 double trailers, 1 single)

• Up to 36 truck movements per year

• 2 drivers per truck, 2 trucks in convoy, limited stops, re-fuelling points only

• Shipment from Port Adelaide and/or Darwin – both ports with long experience of uranium handling and certified handling facilities

EPA Recommendation

13

“WA Opposition Leader Mark McGowan said if he won the 2013 election, any [uranium] mines that were approved before that time would remain operational...”

Ministerial Approval

14

WA Opposition spokesman Bill Johnston said: “…if the ALP come to government and there's a project that's been approved - and when I say been approved I mean by state approvals - it can proceed.”

ABC Radio, 11 October 2012

“The Liberal-National Government is committed to ensuring that uranium mining in WA will be subject to strict security provisions and world’s best practice safety and environmental standards.”

Minister Marmion, Media Statement 10 October 2012

Community

• Industry collaboration on regional consultation programme since 2008

• Information days in Wiluna, Kalgoorlie, Menzies and Leonora for ERMP

• Wiluna Shire (Local Government) adopted policy of support for uranium mining

• Wiluna population ~ 650 – more than half indigenous

• Contracts already provided to local and regional businesses

• Indigenous employees engaged during technical site works

Traditional Owner’s view

19

“… for the first time, a mining company has come to

talk to the mob about their concerns. This is good

and the old men are happy that Toro will keep away

from their sites.

There is a long way to go, but at least the men who

are responsible for that area have been able to sit

down and talk about that country on behalf of all

the Wiluna mob and be listened to and be involved

in decisions about that country. This hasn’t

happened before.”

Spokesman for Senior Lawmen

Darren Farmer
