T5. Pairing Fact with Fiction Instructor: Sue Wine

Dates: July 11 & 12 Time: 9:00 am-4:30 pm

Credits: 1 Course #: EDUC 5005-01

This workshop will explore some aspects of differentiated instruction by combining fact and fiction

from library sources. Students grades K-5 will be able to better relate to text and take ownership of

learning content. This combination of text can be fun, engaging and memorable! Teachers will also

explore various evaluative techniques and analyze common core standards. This workshop is

appropriate for elementary levels.

T6. 50 Ways to Motivate Students, Others, & Yourself Instructor: Ruth Dey

Dates: July 23 & 24 Time: 9:00 am-4:30 pm

Credits: 1 Course #: EDUC 4806-14 How do we motivate ourselves to action? How do we live a life of action and make a difference with

others and our students? This course is designed for teachers to look at 50 proven methods of thinking

that lead directly to motivation for yourself, students and those around you. This workshop is

appropriate for all levels.

T7. Basic Digital Photography for K-12 Educators Instructor: Tiffany Wiles

Dates: July 25 & 26 Time: 9:00 am-4:30 pm

Credits: 1 Course #: ART 2258-01

Developing technology-enriched learning environments for students is one way to encourage curiosity

and creativity. As teachers, we have opportunities to model and demonstrate effective use of digital

resources. One easily accessed digital tool is the digital camera. Your “point and shoot” digital camera

can do a lot more than you might realize. You will learn: essential digital camera features and options,

how to transfer photos from a digital camera to a computer, and essential photographic techniques.

Developing these technology skills will allow teachers to infuse technology into classroom learning

opportunities for students. Please bring a flash drive and a digital camera (with the manual if you have

it). This workshop is appropriate for all levels.

Motivating the Public Educator: Abraham Maslow

Grade Level: ALL Credits: 2

Date: June 25 & 26 Time: 8:30-4:30 Course # EDUC 5002-04

This workshop (based on the research of Abraham Maslow) seeks to implement “purpose of

endeavor” in the classroom educator. Key to the development of a more successful educational

community is the individual classroom teacher and his or her sense of purpose in the scheme of

things.

Promoting the Positive Attitude

Grade Level: ALL Credits: 2

Date: June 27 & 28 Time: 8:30-4:30 Course # EDUC 5004-04

This workshop seeks to implement regular self-evaluation and positive attitude enhancements for the

classroom educator. A wide variety of proven/researched approaches will be reviewed and adapted

to fit all classroom educators and certified personnel.

Friends University invites Denny Dey back for another learning-filled JUNE! Denny has

created two workshops for teachers who desire knowledge and spirited teaching. Workshops

are held at the Friends University Topeka campus location. ∞

FRIENDS UNIVERSITY All workshops are offered for graduate level credit and available to licensed

educators. The workshops are recommended for renewal purposes, postgraduate, or professional enrichment.

To register:

Complete and detach the pre-registration form below. To pre-register by phone using a credit card, call (316)

295-5516 or 1-800-794-6945 ext. 5516.

Payment must be received to hold your spot. Make checks payable to Friends University or call (316)

295-5516 to have charges made to your Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card account. To pay online, go to

www.friends.edu/pay-online and click on e-market. Follow instructions under Teacher Education

Workshops. List final transaction number on pre-registration form.

Tuition is $145 per credit hour.

No pre-registrations will be taken the first day of the workshop. All pre-registration must be completed

prior to the start of the workshop.

An e-mail reminder will be sent the week before the start of the workshop.

No refunds will be issued beginning one week prior to the workshop start date. A $25 cancellation fee per

credit will be assessed on all refunds requested. If the minimum number of participants do not enroll, the

workshop will be cancelled, you will be notified and a full refund will be given.

All workshops will be letter-graded. As a result, projects/assignments will be assessed. Unofficial grade sheets

will be mailed out by registrar after the grades have been posted.
