Spring Concert Concept & History
The annual spring show at Battlefi eld High School is a tradition that began when the school opened in the fall of 2004. Lynn Tupper (Gregory), the founder of the program, felt the need to showcase the talent in the choral program in ways that traditional choir music might not do. So, she came up with the specialty concert. Dancing, singing, and playing instruments became the calling card for great performances through the years. Unlike the more traditional choral concerts, this show is dependent on the audience singing along and even dancing if they so choose.
This year’s spring show, “Top 40 Through the Decades,” was the brain-child of a collective. The rising seniors picked four main themes to vote on, and then the theme with the majority won. From what I gather, this theme provided a larger “umbrella” of genres to choose from. The seniors main goal this year was to make sure every student was represented,
Through the Decades
and this show has done a brilliant job of doing just that. From 1930s jazz to the awesome hair-band sounds of the 1980s, this show is the culmination of hours of thought, conversation and rehearsal. Featuring the brilliant choreography of Ms. Mallory Lanier, and having the student director, Miss Michaela Baker involved, the students have achieved a new level of brilliance. With over 40 diff erent soloists (25% of the choral program) from among all 6 choir classes, this show has become a true “family” event.
Thank you for your overwhelming support of our vision and eff orts. It’s an absolute pleasure having the opportunity to share “us” with you tonight. We hope you enjoy the show!
Best wishes,
DB
