CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS Over the past few weeks the Australian weather has been giving us a showcase of the range of con- ditions that it has to offer – heat, wind, rain and cold. It is during these times that we often see an increase in the amount of lost property around our school grounds as students make themselves comfortable. Please make sure that as students pack their bags each day, their umbrellas, raincoats, hats and jumpers are clearly labelled so that if they do go missing they can find their way back to their owners easily. SPORT Toongabbie has a proud history of sporting achievement – at both school level and beyond. While this isn’t possible without the efforts from the parent helpers and the students themselves, today I would like to express a special thanks to the teachers who go above and beyond to make sure that these opportunities are available to our students. Many afternoons, mornings and breaks are happily given up by teachers to ensure that the important background organisation happens to enable students to attend PSSA, gala days, carnivals and other events. If you have enjoyed being a part of a sporting group this year – please make sure you take the time to say, ”Thanks”! WANDERERS CUP FINAL Best of luck to our girls’ football team competing in the Wanders Cup finals next Tuesday. I am sure they will wear their red and white shirts with pride. MARKET NIGHT All of our Stage 3 staff and many parents worked as a team to organise a wonderful night on Saturday night. What a huge task this was! It was great to see Mrs Hosking and so many current staff in attend- ance. There were over 60 stalls and hundreds of family members and visitors. A great effort TPS. BIG DAY IN Mr Carruthers took students from Stage 3 to the Junior Big Day In on Tuesday at Hilltop Road Public School in Parramatta. KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION ON WEDNESDAY Mrs Rolls, the Kindy team of 2018, and our fabulous office staff organised the last session for Kinder- garten 2019. It was held in the hall. During this time Mrs Rolls and Miss Stefanel explained the Early Stage 1 curriculum as well as delivered the packs of information. This included a library bag, road safety bag, requirements for next year and a letter regarding Best Start appointments. If you did not receive your pack and you have a child coming to Kindergarten next year, please go to the office to collect it. I would also like to remind anyone who has a child coming into school next year to please enrol them. We now have 73 enrolled students. The new students enjoyed a fun morning in the class- rooms with the teachers with activities centred around the story of “Spot Goes to School”. They were also given a booklet to complete over the holidays. Thanks to all the teachers involved and especially Mrs Rolls for her extensive organisation. I know your children had a great time and we look forward to them starting school on Monday 4th February 2019. TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL Mr Carruthers took some students to a transition day for two of our local high schools. This marks the beginning of lots of Open Days for the many high schools our Year 6 students will attend.

On Sunday night 11 November, ABC TV showed the first episode of "Don't Stop the Music". Presented by Guy Sebastion, this fascinating series focuses on the many ben-efits of music education for primary school aged children. It tracks the progress of a school who are introducing musical instrument tuition for the first time.

Of course, we have a fantastic Instrumental Program at our school & your child can be part of it. If you missed the show, we encourage you to watch it on iView. Better still, go to www.schoolbands.com.au to become part of our school band. Your child's brain will thank you for it! Thanks so much! Kind regards, Martin & Laura

Toongabbie PS Band News

On Monday evening the TPS Band students put on a fabulous performance for their families and new students. With over 100 people in attendance, the turn out exceeded our expectations and was an incredible show of support for our band program. The children met our new conductor, Mr Martin Davidson who was engaging, fun and a cheeky addition to the band when he joined them on stage with a saxophone for the evenings performances. Martin's passion for music and teaching was very evident on the night and he won the hearts of our new enrolling stu-dents when they were asked to join our Concert Band on stage. Information packs have gone home with students this week so if you are considering enrolling your child in the School Bands program in 2019, act quickly, places are filling up fast for our 25th Anniversary year. Check out the School Bands Australian team website at www.schoolbands.com.au or email [email protected] Special thanks to all the TPS teachers and parent helpers who made our night a great success. You rock!

How do you reward students who have shown exceptional dedication to their school band? You throw a party day lunch! On Wednesday our band students were treated to a feast of hot chips, drinks and party food. Afterwards they burnt off their energy with a mini-disco including music and fantastic lighting. Learning an instrument requires commitment and time and we like to see our kids let loose and have fun with their band mates towards the end of a busy year. Huge thanks to the mums and teachers who gave up their time and donated sup-plies to help our band students celebrate their 2018 achievements. Enrolments for the 2019 TPS Band are now open. Visit www.schoolbands.com.au or email [email protected] for details.

TPS TWILIGHT MARKETS Thank you to the amazing teachers who gave up their time to help at the twilight markets last Saturday night. Mrs Church, Mr Carruthers, Mr Howe, Miss McGoogan and Mrs Stone did a fantastic job and their help was greatly appre-ciated. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who were mentioned on the Facebook page. A huge thank you to Mr Steve Munro and Laura who helped with the lighting and Michael Williamson from Allcott Hire and Darin from Coates Hire for kindly donating lighting towers as well. The $2 entry fee saw us collect an amazing $1,505 which will be donated to the students at Bingara Central School. TPS received rave reviews from all the stall holders and the community.

What’s Happening at TPS

This year, we have 12 Year 2 students representing T.P.S. at The Schools Spectacular. This event, held at Qudos

Bank Arena, Homebush, allows students from all over NSW to come together to display their performing arts skills.

The theme for this year’s show is ‘The Greatest’ and our segment is ‘The Greatest Stories Ever Told’. After weeks of

lunch-time practises and several out-of-school rehearsals, the time to dance has almost arrived! The students will be

performing in a total of 4 shows, next Friday 23 November and Saturday 24 November. Tickets are still available

through Ticketek.
