touch my heart with Your courage and infinite Love for all;touch my mind with Your Wisdom, and may my mouth always proclaim Your praise.
Teach me to reach out to You in all my needs, and help me to lead others to You by my example.

Touch gently this life which you have created, now and forever.Amen

Fifth Sunday of Lent
Fr. Steve’s Stuff Dear parishioners, During this unprecedented time of concern, rest assured that Fr. Ken and I remain resolute in praying for you, your families, and our Country. To avoid a complete separation from the sacraments, we are live streaming mass each day which can be viewed on Face-book, as well as the Parish website (www.stritaharahan.com). The church will remain open during the day, following conclusion of the live stream Mass until 6:30pm, for visiting and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. We are hosting drive-through confessions in the parking lot (Saturday’s from 3:00-4:00 pm and Sunday’s from 10:00-11:00 am). Please enter through the Bourg St. gate just like the school drop-off line and exit through the Imperial Woods gate. There will be signs and barricades to make it clear. The food pantry continues to operate on Thursdays, reaching out to those in need. The parish office will be open to calls only TUESDAY-THURSDAY from 10:00am-12:00 noon. We will also check in for voicemail received outside of those hours. While we have been asked NOT to simply visit those who are sick or home bound, we WILL come to administer the Sacrament of the Sick to those with serious conditions or the dying, so please call the rectory or the answering service (504-468-7179) if that is the case. Finally, we are deeply grateful to those parishioners who have continued to support the Parish by delivering their weekly envelopes to the Rectory (160 Imperial Woods) and placing them in the mail slot on the Imperial Woods side. However, in light of the Gover-nor’s “Stay at Home” order, you can call Fr. Steve’s cell (504-232-5307) and he will make arrangements to pick up your contribu-tion. In the very near future (possibly this week), we expect to have a means to contribute online so that you can support the parish from the comforts of your home. As you know, the Parish operates solely on your continued contributions. At stake is our ability to fund the operation and maintenance of Church, related facilities, and ongoing ministries. Please keep checking our website (www.stritaharahan.com) for more information about online giving in the coming days. We appreciate that many of you may be affected by the current crisis and certainly understand that you may be unable to contribute at this time. We want everyone to know you are in our hearts and prayers and we are continuing to offer Masses for all who have requested them. Our prayers also include a request to Our Lady of Prompt Succor for an expedited resolution of the crisis. All stay well. Yours in Christ, Fr. Steve and Fr. Ken P.S.S. Parishioners of St. Rita Catholic Church – Harahan, Many of you have heard the news that Fr. Ken will obediently accept his new assignment as Chaplain of East Jefferson General Hos-pital, and will be moving to live at St. Mary Magdalen. We are saddened by this news, but realize that Fr. Ken will make a tremen-dously tender and effective Chaplain for the patients at EJ. Certainly that news begs the question, “Who will replace Fr. Ken?” To tell the truth NO ONE can replace Fr. Ken. However, we are honored to announce that we will be the seed-bed for another newly ordained Priest, as we welcome back Dc. (and soon to be Fr.) Sylvester Adoga. Apparently we did such a bang-up job forming Fr. Ken into a wonderful Priest, the Archdiocese is sending us Dc. (Fr.) Adoga to serve as Parochial Vicar here at St. Rita. With all that is happening in regards to the COVID-19 virus, we aren’t certain how this transition will take place, but we will keep you informed as best we can as we make tentative plans to celebrate the FIVE years we have had with Fr. Ken and to welcome Dc. (Fr.) Adoga.

March 21, 2020 With loving joy I am happy to inform you,
One of the very important things that takes place doing a man’s ordination to the priesthood, is
when he places his hands in his bishops hands
and looks him in the eye and promised obedience to his bishop and the bishop’s successors.
Well I made that promised!
I am happily accepting my new assignment as Chaplain at East Jefferson Hospital and live in
residence at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, Metairie.
This assignment is effective July 1, 2020
With Christ,
Rev. Kenneth S. Smith
