Subordinate clause: cannot stand alone >>> After I finished my homework (what???)

It’s a clause which can stand alone as a sentence. They can be joined together by the conjunctions

and, but, or, for, so and yet.

Ex. The living room is red, and the kitchen is yellow. S V S V -------main clause------ -------main clause-----

They can also be joined together by clause markers such as:however, nevertheless, in addition, on the other hand, furthermore, and moreover.

A semicolon ( ; ) is placed just before the clause marker.

Ex. John likes the color of the kitchen; however, he does not like the color of the living room.

SUBORDINATE CLAUSE

A subordinate clause which functions as a subject, object, or complement in a sentence.

They can begin with the clause marker THAT or with one of the following question-word clause markers: how, how many, how much, what, when, where, why, who, whom, whose, or which.
