What Happened at General Assembly and Pacific Central District?
Delegates and others who attended this years GA and PCD will report on what they took away from these two denominational meetings. Stephanie Gowin, Larry Danos, Amy Kelly, Shulee Ong and others will talk about what moved them, what they cannot forget from these two meetings. Come and hear about the important vote for the UUA to divest from fossil fuel companies.
This event is jointly sponsored by the Humanist & Non Theists and Denominational Affairs Committees. We’ll be in the Chapel at 1PM. Sandwiches will be available for purchase. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

This show is an opportunity to see the exceptional talents of active or retired Sign, Display and Allied Trades, Local 510 members who are artists as well as artists dedicated to environmental and labor issues. ABOUT TODAY'S GUEST PREACHER
Michael G. Pappas,the father of two sons, George and Paul, daughter, Julia and a congregant at Grace Episcopal Cathedral in San Francisco was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He graduated from Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) in 1983, after which he worked as a lobbyist, regional field director for a presidential campaign and investment banker.In 1987, he enrolled at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (Brookline, MA) attaining an M.Div., with honors, in the class of 1992. An ordained priest of the Greek Orthodox Church, Michael served parishes in Palos Hills, IL, Stockton, CA, and San Francisco, CA.During his sixteen-year ministry, he contributed articles to religious and secular periodicals, and he worked with the homeless and further ecumenical/interfaith relationships. After transitioning from parish ministry in 2007, he was selected by the San Francisco Interfaith Council to the newly created administrative post of Executive Director.In addition to Mayoral appointments to the San Francisco Disaster Council, San Francisco Office of Civic Engagement's 2010 Census Complete Count Committee; San Francisco Assisi Sister City Committee, and San Francisco Human Rights Commission, he has been a Board Member of the National Shrine of Saint Francis; Board of Directors & Program Committee Chair of the Interfaith Center at the Presidio; The San Francisco Foundation FAITHS Advisory Board; Episcopal Charities Board of Trustees; and Night Ministry Advisory Board Member. He serves on the United Religions Initiative (URI) North America Region Leadership Council and was elected by that Region to serve as a Trustee on URI's Global Council. He is also on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter.He traveled to Turkey as a participant in the Pacifica Institute Cultural Exchange, attended the United Religions Initiative Global Assembly in Mayapur, India: the Parliament of the World's Religions in Melbourne, Australia; spent a week in New Orleans doing disaster relief; and was the guest of the Jewish Community Relations Council in their Community Leaders sojourn to Israel.
ABOUT TODAY'S GUEST MUSICIANS
Music brought Ted Rust and Viva Knight together. Dolci, their piano-oboe duo, is the after-careers dessert course of their lives. Viva Knight studied piano with Stefan Bardas at the University of North Texas, Marina Young at Rutgers University and Betty Oberacker in Santa Barbara. She produced the television series "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman". During her tenure as an adjunct professor of screenwriting at NYU she gave solo piano recitals in New York City, Southampton and Assisi, Italy. Ted Rust studied oboe with Louis Speyer at Tanglewood and Raymond Dusté in San Francisco. While working as a regional planning consultant, he coached music at The Crowden School, played in the Berkeley Bach Cantata Group, the Kensington Symphony and the quintet Quorum Ventorum, and published the newsletter "Music for the Love of It". Ted and Viva met at a music workshop in Vermont and a few years later, after both were widowed, they decided to spend the rest of their lives with each other The couple started giving home concerts for friends in 2009. They now perform public recitals in several Bay Area venues, and will appear at Old First Concerts at 4pm Sunday August 24. Their weekly concert series "Dolci by the Bay" runs every September through March at the San Francisco Aquatic Park Center. Info: http://dolciduo.us./
