Chris Brown maintains a confident and suave demeanour, throughout the mediums of an album cover, magazine cover and moving image (music video). Contributing to the consistency of his brand image, are his costume, low haircut, direct eye-contact and the constant use of mid-shots.

Appearance proves to be exceedingly vital for the branding of a music artist. This is due to the simple fact, that they must seem appealing to that certain segment of the market, this wish to appeal to. Furthermore

The costume is one aspect of Chris Brown’s brand image that remains fluent. The outfit choices transition from being quirky and stylish, to smart. For the album cover, Chris Brown is seen sporting a casual leather jacket, with an open collar. Although his face is seen to be fairly stern, the styling of his jacket has connotations of relaxation. A similar juxtaposition is employed for the magazine cover, where Chris Brown is wearing a black blazer with a white polkadot pattern, accompanied by a black shirt and white bow-tie, gold gas-mask and diamond earrings as accessories. What seems to be 50% of the whole suit, would spark the thought of professionalism with a hint of style due to the pattern on the blazer. This hint of personal flare, is yet reinforced by the bow-tie and gasmask. Both seem to appear as if it were out of place, which makes it seem almost comical. However, as the bow-tie offers whimsical connotations and the gasmask invites connotations of style, this could be seen as a reflection of the artists’ creativity. Even more so, those accessories help add to the understanding of the brand identity, showing that he doesn’t take himself too seriously despite his financial gain and heightened status. We revisit the use for a two piece suit as a costume once again, with a similar colour scheme, but this time in a music video. The blazer is white, whereas the shirt is black. In another scene in the video, Chris Brown is seen modelling a black shirt, this time with the accessories of white braces and black circular glasses. Black gives the feeling of power, elegance and depth; therefore that must mean there is some connection with that colour to the artist. Similarly with the utilisation of the colour gold, which represents success, achievement and triumph. In conjunction with that, would be the colour white. White, the colour, sometimes symbolises new beginnings. Those who are fond of entertainment, would understand the trials and tribulations that has occurred in this artists’ personal life; due to that a better understanding of the artist is proposed. The use of the black blazer and shirt automatically assumes for dominance, which could resemble the artists’ manhood and boldness. Hence, why he is able to pull of the bow-tie, braces, luxurious gold gasmask and diamond earrings! The whole attire itself bares a reflection to how successful this artist has been despite bumps in his journey, as well as his innovative approach to his craft.

whports Despite that slight change, the styling of the costume remains persistent; in the sense that it is tailored for a neat presentation. In every medium, Chris Brown is advertised as poised as well as self-assured. This definitely prevails through his romantic, yet risqué music. Additionally, his attire assumes a sense of professionalism
