Choir-Led Worship
On Sunday morning, December 14th, the Calvary Intergenerational Choir will lead the congregation in worship through music. In addition to Scripture, prayer, a homily by Mary Alice, and congregational music, the choir will present John Rutter’s Gloria along with other favorite Christmas music.
Composed in 1974, Rutter’s Gloria has become a staple of Christmas choral music. Known for its driving rhythms, virtuosic accompaniment, and engaging melodies, the Gloria utilizes the traditional Latin text based on the angel’s response to the birth of Jesus.
The Calvary Intergenerational Choir began preparations for Christmas music early in October, and their leadership of this service represents their sacrificial offering of time, dedication, and musical skill. I urge you to be present Sunday for this Calvary Christmas tradition. Also, consider inviting your friends for this wonderful celebration of the birth of the Christ child.

What’s your favorite Christmas carol? Is it “The First Noel”? “Hark! The
Herald Angels Sing”? Maybe “Angels We Have Heard on High”? Or maybe “Joy to the World”?
One of my favorite Christmas Carols is “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” This song has a prominent place on my Christmas playlist each holiday season. I love this song because it reminds me of the incredible privilege we have in sharing the story of our Savior’s birth.
“Go Tell It on the Mountain” dates back to the 1860s and in the early 1900s John Wesley Work, Jr. included this African-American spiritual in a compilation of songs that had only previously been passed down orally from generation to generation. Considering the history of this song, how can we share God’s hope with our neighbors during this special season of anticipation?
On Sunday, December 21st, we will
be going out into our neighborhood to share warm greetings of great joy through singing Christmas Carols and prayer walking. I invite you to join us
at 9:30am, in lieu of Sunday School, to grab a song sheet and a prayer walking guide to walk through the neighborhood sharing glad tidings with our neighbors through song and prayer. This is a great opportunity for all in the Calvary family to participate
in as we seek to share Christ’s message of hope over the hills in the Sanger Heights neighborhood and everywhere this Advent season.
Join us Sunday, December 21st, at 9:30am in the Welcome Center. After caroling, we will return to the Welcome Center for coffee, hot chocolate, and some breakfast treats before worship. See you then as we…
Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.
