The Valley of the Kings
Lyn and I have been to Egypt five times between 1988 and 1997 and we have visited the Valley of the Kings many times on each trip. It has a special magic for us, as it has had for Egyptians and visitors down through the centuries.
It is not just its history or the tombs, which are truly wonderful, but it is the place itself.
The geography, geology and climate combine to create a place of silent majesty, in spite of the flow of tourists.
We found that by taking a very steep ancient track we could climb up above the Valley where a path runs from the cliffs above Deir el-Bahri, The Temple of Hatshepsut, to the ruins of Deir el-Medina, “The Place of Truth”.
Most of these photographs were taken walking this path. The heat is always intense. The desiccated rocks crumble under your feet. Black kites wheel above looking for prey.
It is a very special place.
