Dear parishioners,The essay entitled “Our Sweetest Remembrance and Our Brightest Hope” written in 1885 is reprinted in the pastor’s column.

II.Beginning with our past life, we divide it into two parts: the evil

days and the good. Which of us has not known them and has not learned by prompt experience that as the bird is born to fly, so we are born to labor and to suffer.

Our life manifested itself by tears and our earliest infancy passed in weeping. Then came the labors of youth. Soon followed those serious labors which over power the heart: disappointments, reverses and above all those hard losses which nothing can bid us forget. Alas! How many smiled round our cradle over whose tomb we weep! But, what to us are the sorrows of our past life compared to the faults we have committed?

But, by the side of these evil days there are some in the past who memory is sweet upon our heart. If infancy has its tears, it has also its sweet joys, when the horizon of our life is the family circle, and we know only of this world the father that we venerate and the mother that we love. The Christian loves to recall nothing as much as the graces he has received from God. He remembers the first prayer, the first alms. He thinks with deeper gratitude that he never lived without prayer and without loving God and the poor.

But there is nothing to think of with such gratitude, as the Com-munions he has made. They have been the perfume of his life and he loves to breathe it. He does not forget that each one of these Communions has fortified him against some danger, ornamented him with some new virtue, or at least made him love it.

Yet as among the joys of this life we rank highest the graces of God and among these graces we give the first place to our Commu-nions, so among them there is One Communion that we prefer. One to which we always turn; One that is Our Sweetest Remembrance … and this is our First Communion.

Father David.

Padre David.

It is Time For The Angel Tree Program! The St. Vincent de Paul Santa Cruz Buda Conference is presenting its annual Angel Tree in the church narthex. On the tree are Boy and Girl Angel Tree tags representing children of families in need. Please consider picking up a tag(s), signing out the tag (s) at the table next to the tree. We ask that you purchase no more than two gifts per child, and spend no more than $50 per child. Place the peel off label stapled to the angel tree tag on each gift. That allows us to track the gifts for the children and their families. To help us coordinate the many gifts and prepare for the Angel Tree Event please return the gifts no later than Monday, December 12th. You may return the gifts to the church narthex or the parish receptionist office. If you have any questions, please call 512-415-4012 our St. Vincent de Paul cell phone.

Safety and Security MinistryThe Safety and Security Ministry meets regularly with our pastor, Father David to help provide a safe environment for everyone who comes on the grounds for prayer, learning and service. The members are parishioners with a background in law enforcement, firefighting, safety, security, and risk management. At a recent meeting, the members proposed parking lot safety guidelines, which will help to promote safety on the premises.• Do not leave car phones, handbags or any valuable item where they can

be seen in your vehicle. Always store these items away from sight.• Do not leave purchased merchandise in your vehicle where it can be

seen.• Before sunrise and sunset, park and walk in well lighted areas. Please

consider that for the evening Mass on Saturday and Sunday, you will exit the church when it is dark outside.

• Stay alert to your surroundings, including people who are walking to their vehicles and to the movement of traffic.

• Before getting into your vehicle look inside and around.• Remember to pray before you begin a journey. My holy guardian angel, ask the Lord to bless the journey which I under-take, that it may profit the health of my soul and body; that I may reach its end; and that, returning safe and sound, I may find all at home in good health. Guard, guide and preserve us. Amen.
