Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston-Victo- ria teamed up to present college schol- arships to each of the four youngest children of John and Monica Kubena. The Kubena's oldest son is in the military. The children, who include seven-year-old twins Sara and Tara who are fighting leukemia, will be able to attend their first two years of col- lege at WCJC and then complete their final two years at UH-Victoria. WCJC officials heard that the Kubena family was the recipient of the ABC-TV series makeover from college employees who reside in East Bernard. WCJC President Betty Mc- Crohan immediately decided to offer WCJC scholarships to the family and then contacted Tim Hudson, president of the University of Houston-Victo- ria to consider providing additional scholarships. "We are so pleased to be able to offer WCJC scholarships to the Kubena family," said WCJC Presi- dent McCrohan. "We look forward to helping these children achieve their educational goals." Peter Fletcher Fletcher To Perform In Columbus On Monday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m., classical guitarist Peter Fletcher. will perform a recital at the NesWtt Memorial Library in Columbus. The performance will be free of charge. Fletcher first appeared at the li- brary last year in April, drawing a full house. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Fletcher has released four albums and made numerous appearances on radio and television. He has been studying guitar since he was seven years old and performing since he was 15. His concert at the library will fea- ture selections from his newest Cen- taur Records release, Peter Fletcher Plays Erik Satie. Other pieces will include the ever popular Recuerdos de laAlhambra by Francisco Tarrega, Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, transcriptions of works by the French composers Mau- rice Ravel and Francios Couperin, as well as works by Robert de Visee, Fernando Sor, and others. WCJC Gives Scholarships To Home Makeover Kids

News that ABCs Extreme Make- over: Home Edition was constructing a home for a deserving East Bernard family inspired the generosity of two area colleges.

Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston-Victo- ria teamed up to present college schol- arships to each of the four youngest children of John and Monica Kubena. The Kubena's oldest son is in the military. The children, who include seven-year-old twins Sara and Tara who are fighting leukemia, will be able to attend their first two years of col- lege at WCJC and then complete their final two years at UH-Victoria.

WCJC officials heard that the Kubena family was the recipient of the ABC-TV series makeover from

college employees who reside in East Bernard. WCJC President Betty Mc- Crohan immediately decided to offer WCJC scholarships to the family and then contacted Tim Hudson, president of the University of Houston-Victo- ria to consider providing additional scholarships.

"We are so pleased to be able to offer WCJC scholarships to the Kubena family," said WCJC Presi- dent McCrohan. "We look forward to helping these children achieve their educational goals."

"We're proud to be part of a bright- er tomorrow for the Kubena family," added UHV President Hudson. "Hook forward in the future to seeing them on campus."

Fletcher To Perform In Columbus

On Monday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m., classical guitarist Peter Fletcher. will perform a recital at the NesWtt Memorial Library in Columbus. The performance will be free of charge.

Fletcher first appeared at the li- brary last year in April, drawing a full house. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Fletcher has released four albums and made numerous appearances on radio and television. He has been studying guitar since he was seven years old and performing since he was 15.

His concert at the library will fea- ture selections from his newest Cen- taur Records release, Peter Fletcher Plays Erik Satie. Other pieces will include the ever popular Recuerdos de laAlhambra by Francisco Tarrega, Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, transcriptions of works by the French composers Mau- rice Ravel and Francios Couperin, as well as works by Robert de Visee, Fernando Sor, and others.

The concert will culminate with an intensely powerful contemporary work for classical guitar by the Italian guitarist and composer Carlo Domeni- coni, Koyunbaba, which has also been recorded by Fletcher.
