Care for children age 0-6years

• From 6months infants should start to drink from a free flow cup.

• Sugar should not be added to weaning foods or drinks.

• Parents/carers should brush or supervise brushing

• As soon as the teeth erupt brush them twice daily with a fluoridated toothpaste.

• Brush last thing at night and on one other occasion.

• Use Fluoridated toothpaste no less than 1000ppm fluoride

• It is good practice to only use a smear of toothpaste.

• The frequency and amount of sugary food should be reduced.

• Sugar free medicines should be recommended.

Care from age 7 and young adults.

• Brush at least twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste (1,350 – 1,500ppm fluoride)

• Brush last thing at night and at least one other occasion.

• Spit out after brushing DO NOT RINSE to maintain fluoride concentration.

• Reduce frequency and amount of sugary food and drinks.

If you have a brace or your dentist is concerned.

you should use a fluoride rinse daily (0.05% NaF) at a different time to

brushing.

Visit your dentist 2 times a year

• You will have fluoride varnish applied to protect your teeth.

• You will have the health of your mouth and teeth checked.

• you will be given advice on caring for your oral health.

Care for adults

• Brush at least twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste (at least 1,350ppm fluoride)

Care for your gums and oral health

• Do not smoke- it will increase the risk of damaging the health of your mouth and increases the chance of LOOSING TEETH.

• Reduce alcohol intake to reduce the risk of damaging health.

Do not use Tobacco

• Both smoking and chewing tobacco seriously affects general health and oral health.

• The most significant effect on the mouth is oral cancers and pre cancers.

• DO NOT SMOKE OR USE SHISHA PIPES• DO NOT USE SMOKELESS TOBACCO (paan,

chewing tobacco,gutkha)

Eating fewer sugary snacks and foods is good for your general health as

well as your teeth.
